1 Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 (Win) Recording Lessons Insert Audio - Click the Insert tab. - The Audio button has two parts, the bottom part ( ) allows you to choose from four options o Record Audio - Opens the audio recorder and allows you to record your voice. TIP: The built-in microphone is not calibrated in Windows XP. To improve the audio, go to Control Panel > Audios and Audio Devices > Voice > Default Device Volume > Advanced and check Microphone Boost. Try to use an external microphone to make recordings. Adding Timing to a slide show - There are two ways to add Timing to a slide show. o Click the Transitions tab. Uncheck On Mouse Click and put a checkmark next to After: then choose how long each slide will stay on the screen before moving to the next. NOTE: This is the total amount of time the slide will stay on. The amount of time is divided between any effects that may be present. o Click the Side Show tab Rehearse Timings Starts the slide show and records how long each click should take. At the end of the slide show you can choose to keep or disregard the timings recorded. Use Rehearsal Timings Disables any rehearsed timing recorded. NOTE: To disable the timings for the entire slide show without deleting the individual timing, go to Slide Show>Set Up Slide Show and choose Manually under Advance slides. Record Slide Show - Starts the slide show and allows you to record narration. TIP: While the built-in microphone is OK, use a USB microphone to improve the sound quality. Creating a Video - Go to Save & Send under the File tab - Choose Create a Video o Click the button that says Computer & HD Displays to choose what quality to export the video as. o Click the button that says Don t Use Recorded Timings & Narrations to choose whether or not to use them. o If you do not use the timings, you can set the length of each slide. 1

2 Creating a Presentation CD - Go to Save & Send under the File tab - Choose Package Presentation for CD - Click Create Package Microsoft PowerPoint 2011 (Mac) Insert Audio - Click Media under the Home tab. o Record Audio... Allows you to record sound. o A sound icon will appear on the slide. Clicking the icon will play the sound or music file. o TIP: The sound icon can have an animation set to it like any other object. Adding Timing to a slide show - There are two ways to add Timing to a slide show. o Insert a transition onto a slide. o Advance slide On mouse click Allows you to click through the slideshow. Automatically after Allows you to enter how long it will take for all of the effects to play before the slideshow advances. NOTE: You will have to do this for each slide unless you click Apply to All. o Go to Side Show > Rehearse Timings. This starts the slide show and records how long each click should take. Create a Movie - Go to File > Save as Movie... - Name the presentation & where to save it. - Movie Options... o Optimization Change how the video s optimized for playback. o Movie dimensions Change the size of the movie. o Slide transitions Decide whether to use the transitions or not. o Background soundtrack Add background music. 2

3 Keynote 09 (Mac) o Loop Movie Loop the movie. o Show movie player controls Show the player controls during the movie. o Credits Add info to the file to include director, producer, etc. Record Slideshow - Record slideshow allows you to record timings and voiceover for the slideshow. - Go to File > Record Slideshow. - The slideshow will begin playing. Click through the slideshow while recording your voice. - To end the recording, hit the esc button. - To play back the slideshow, click Play. - To delete the recorded times, go to File > Clear Recording Export to other formats - It is possible to export Keynote presentations as other formats. - Go to File > Export. - Quicktime Export as a Quicktime video that can be viewed on Mac or PC. o Manual Advance Allows you to click to advance the slideshow. o Fixed Timing Automatically advances through the slideshow. - PowerPoint Exports the Keynote as a PowerPoint presentation that can be viewed on Mac or PC. o WARNING: All of the cool effects will be stripped out and replaced with standard PowerPoint effects. - HTML Export as a webpage file that can be viewed on Mac or PC. - ipod Export a movie file to itunes that can be viewed on the ipod. Photo Booth - Photo Booth is a Mac only program that allows you to take photos and video with special effects. - Go to Applications > Photo Booth. - Select a mode. o Multiple Picture Takes four, quick photos and combines them. o Picture Takes a single picture. o Video Records a short video. - Click Effects. o Click an effect preview to use it. Use the left & right arrows to 3

4 select from the 5 pages of effects. o TIP: When using one of the green screen effects, follow the directions and use a background with no movement for the best look. - Click the Camera button. o The preview window will count down from 3 to 1 then flash the screen when it takes the picture. o Pictures and videos and be viewed at the bottom of the window. It can be downloaded at o For a complete walk-thru on how to edit audio in Audacity, go to YouTube / TeacherTube - YouTube.com is a great place to put your lessons so that students can view them from home and on mobile devices. - NOTE: Because YouTube is blocked by the KISD web filter for students, it is advised to use a different service if you want students to be able to watch your content while on campus. - TeacherTube.com is a great place to put your lessons so that students can view them from home and on mobile devices. - NOTE: TeacherTube can be viewed by students on campus. 4

5 Podcast - A podcasts is an audio or video program that is serial in nature, that can be downloaded or watched / viewed on the Internet. o To learn more about podcasting, go to my webpage on the KISD Site (Schools > Nolan > Staff Directory / Websites > Robert Stephens). Google Docs to record info - Create a Form o Google Docs (now Google Drive) allows you to create a form online to collect data.
