3 Types of protection Our explosion protection solutions are suitable for Zones 1 and in gas areas and 1 and in dust areas, and for protection types Ex e, Ex tb, Ex i, Ex p and Ex nr. 4 Choosing Ex e over Ex d Ex d enclosure is an excellent protection solution for many situations. However, the use of Ex d as a junction box is not recommended due to the challenging attachment of the cover to the base. We instead recommend the use of Ensto Cubo stainless steel (AISI 316L) Ex e enclosures for junction box purposes to guarantee safety and the best value-for-money. The Ex e protection type is based on the heat dissipation limitation and the use of nonsparking components, whereas the Ex d protection type is based on limiting potential explosions inside an enclosure from outside air. Ex e enclosures are lightweight and easy to open. Ex d enclosures are heavy and difficult to open.
