2 Version 4 of IBM 4690 Operating System (OS) adds the following enhancements: Security enhancements, including: Logging Some of the TCP functions were enhanced to log successful and failed attempts in the system log. Protect FTP IDs and passwords The user may optionally configure the FTP IDs and passwords to be protected. The IDs, passwords, and access rights will be encoded and a password will be required to view and make changes to them. Console lockout and FTP lockout after a specified of incorrect signon attempts This allows the user to optionally enable a lockout function that will lockout or prevent an ID from being logged on the system after a user-definable of invalid logon attempts by that ID. The user can configure the duration of this lockout. Lockout TCP/IP after some of invalid attempts This allows the user to optionally enable a lockout function or prevent an FTP ID from accessing the system after a user-definable of invalid logon attempts by that ID. The user can configure the duration of this lockout. LDAP support The user may optionally configure the ability for the Console login ID and password to be obtained from an LDAP server. Support for greater than 4 GB hard file partitions The 4690 OS will now support partitions greater than 4 GB. A newly installed system can optionally create a single partition larger than 4 GB for a fixed disk of greater size. If a system is migrated with a 4 GB partition it may continue to use that 4 GB partition or optionally use the remainder of the disk (excluding the 4 GB originally in use) as the 4690 OS partition. Access to SMART data 4690 OS V4 provides monitoring of hard drive Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) by which a device monitors and stores information relative to its internal performance and calibration factors to determine the likelihood of a future degrading or fault condition. All reports are based on internal hardware threshold values. When the drive hardware signals to the 4690 OS that an internal threshold has been reached, the OS will log a new message to alert the user that hardware diagnostics should be performed. Support for javax.usb Peripherals can now be attached more easily with the support of the javax.usb specification. The of background slots is now increased to 60. This allows more of our applications to be migrated to run in the background concurrently and have more space for dynamically started applications to run. Additional serial ports This will provide support for up to four serial ports allowing retailers to attach up to four serial devices on selected terminals or controllers. Support for DVD read/write 4690 OS V4 will support being able to read and write DVD media in a future 4690 OS V4 CSD, to be delivered in Changing defaults on Modify Exception Log screens This changes the Modify Exception Log defaults from 1 (erase all) to blank, which will prevent accidental erasure. The user will now be required to enter a selection. Enhancements to Java Terminal Offline Function (TOF) This enhancement includes the use of long file names in the terminal on either the hard drive or in RAM disk as well as loadshrink improvements. Support for JVM currency (SDK 1.4.2) This item allows support for the latest version of Java 1.4. Improved hard drive read/write access compared to V3.3 Read/Write access is significantly faster than in V3.3. In addition, improvements include the use of the hard drive setup tools (CPREP and DPREP) and the LAN disk rebuild utility. Increased of TCP/IP sockets The of TCP/IP sockets is increased to 600. Enhanced Domain Name Server (DNS) search order capability The user can now configure TCP/IP name resolution search order of the local host file or the DNS. Prior to this change, the DNS was always searched first. Enhanced INETD Server options This allows a user to specify a priority for any service started by INETD server. Also, if more than one service is started at the same time and one of the services fails, the remaining services will continue to start. In addition, INETD can be configured to start automatically when the controller IPL s, to eliminate the need for a background application slot. With IBM 4690 OS V4, the 4693s are not supported as controllers. Additionally, some older machines that have been supported by the 4690 are not supported as controllers with V4. For V4, the minimum controller requirements are a P100 MHz processor with 16 MB of RAM. Refer to the Controller Matrix on the Knowledgebase for specific machines that have been withdrawn from 4690 controller support. Knowledgebase is available by visiting the following Web site and selecting KNOWLEDGEBASE support With the JVM enabled, additional memory may be required depending on the size and of Java applications being run. In general, the use of Java 2 (Java 1.4.2) will require more memory and processor capability than the use of Java 1 (Java 1.1.8). Support of Java 1 ends on August 31, The systems require a minimum of 64 MB of memory for Java 1, and a minimum of 128 MB of memory for Java 2. In addition, a faster processor is required, such that Java 2 is supported only in clients that are SurePOS 700 terminals and 4694 terminals that are , or later. Controller support of Java 2 is similarly restricted to the supported SurePOS 700 and 4694 models, and servers with a P300 processor or faster. When using the optional dual display capability, supported clients include SurePOS 700 terminals and 4694 terminals that support the dual display adapter ( , or later, and all SP 700). In addition, the ICEsoft PDF Viewer is available to view PDF files. This product is PRPQ P85739 (5799-RZT). These products must be ordered separately from the OS. Support for DVD read/write available on a future 4690 OS V4 CSD, to be delivered in Defect support and upgrade charges for the browser are included with the 4690 OS V4 Software Maintenance PIDs (5639-BB3 and 5639-BB5). The use of Java 2 requires Long File Names to be configured. This requires configuring virtual file system (VFS) in the controller and network file system (NFS) in the terminal. Changes may be required for Java 2 applications that were developed for 1.3 JVM to run on the new JVM. Changes are required in the application code to take advantage of Electronic Check Imaging capability. Compatibility: IBM 4690 Operating System Version 4 is upwardly compatible with IBM 4690 Operating System Version 3 and supports all currently available applications including: IBM 4680 Chain Drug Sales Application ( ) IBM General Sales Application ( ) IBM Supermarket Application ( ) IBM SUREPOS Application Client/Server Environment for 4690 OS (5739-N74) IBM SUREPOS ACE Electronic Payment Support for 4690 OS (5739-N75) SureVision GUI PRPQ P85667 (5799-RQR) Limitations: IBM 4683 and 4693 terminals can support only the IBM 4690 OS V1 functions, not the Java- or terminal-based TCP/IP functions. IBM support for the IBM SurePoint Solution is provided so that Java-based applications can access the IBM SurePoint Solution as a touch-screen interface. Current CBASIC applications can use the IBM SurePoint Solution only as a VGA display with IBM 4690 OS V4 unless Java extensions are added. Dual display supports the operator display as touch (or non-touch) and the customer display as non-touch or output only. Java 2 application support requires the use of the Java Terminal Offline Function (TOF) in the 4690 OS. The size of the terminal load shrink file, ADXRT8GF.DAT, must not exceed the memory size of any terminal that is connected. Java will not run on loop-attached terminals

6 Ethernet-attached x7 and x7 terminals and the new SurePOS 700 models use the Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) loading mechanism. JavaPOS support for fiscal printers will not be included in IBM 4690 OS V4. IBM 4694 Models 2x7 and 3x7 and the new SurePOS 700 models are not supported as terminals via the Store Loop. The SurePOS 73X and 721 are supported only as a terminal. The SurePOS C41 is supported only as a controller OS does not support USB POS devices attached via a 5V USB port. IDE tape drives are not supported on the new SurePOS 700. Boot messages are not displayed on 2X20 USB Token Ring attached displays. Graphics on SurePOS 721s using 1024x768x64K colors is not supported by the 4690 OS. In V4 of 4690 OS, we will no longer support the following items: BISYNC Communications Token Ring Note: We will continue to support existing Token Ring cards, but will not support any new cards. X.25 Note: We will not support this on new hardware (for example, it does not work on Model 206s). Note: The base and/or migration packages of the product will no longer be available on diskettes. They will only be available on CD-ROM. Security, auditability, and control The announced programs use the security and auditability features of the IBM 4690 OS V4. The security and auditability feature of the IBM 4690 OS V4 includes: Authorization services (password) for each user and files protected from unauthorized access, which may be specified by the user during configuration. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities. Ordering information IBM 4690 Operating System Version 4 is a product that has two charge units: controller and terminal. The optional controller features are now part of the Base Product. These include the following: Communication Feature LAN Feature for TCC Loop Feature for TCC NetBIOS Feature Multiple Controller Feature The product is licensed per controller and per terminal in a store with the first year of support included. There is a media feature if media is desired. IBM 4690 Operating System, 1 Year SWM is the support offering, which has the same structure as the product with a controller and terminal charge. Note: The base and/or migration packages of the product are only available on CD-ROM. Retail Store Solutions Product Offering Basic license: To order a basic license, specify program 5639-BB2, and the distribution medium feature. Also specify the registration feature for the 1 year Software Maintenance product. Also, specify the one-time charge (OTC) feature from the table below in the quantity desired (maximum quantity of 250). To upgrade from a previous version or release, specify the upgrade feature for the appropriate upgrade based on your current 4690 OS version. Retail Store Solutions Support Offering Post-sale technical support is provided by the Software Maintenance offering. This fee service enhances customer productivity by providing voice and electronic access into the IBM support organization. For eligible products, this offering provides access to the customer support Web site, voice access to support personnel, support for configuration and installation questions, maximum two-hour initial response during prime shift and four hours during off shift (off shift is defined as the hours outside of prime shift), and 24 x 7 coverage for store down situations. Technical support provides assistance electronically or via telephone during prime shift. Prime shift means 8 am to 5 pm in the local time zone where service is given Monday through Friday (excluding national holidays). This support: Determines problem cause for configuration, installation, and defect-type problems Identifies the source of the problem for unmodified IBM 4690 OS V4 code using problem analysis Provides information for existing code corrections, restrictions, or known bypasses for reported problems Provides circumventions (when available) Supplies a reasonable amount of assistance for product interpretation and understanding

7 Corrective Service Diskettes (CSDs) provide maintenance for various fixes of the base product and releases, documentation, and online updates. IBM 4690 OS V4 updates include improvements, extensions, and other changes to IBM 4690 OS V4 programs which IBM determines to be logical improvements, upgrades, versions, or new releases. The charge for support (SW Maintenance) is based on a 12-month period. To order support, specify program 5639-BB3 for one-year support and the appropriate registration feature. Support for the first year, even though there is no charge, must be ordered using the registration feature. Customers that are upgrading from a prior version, must also order SW Maintenance using the registration feature. Prior versions include 4690 OS V3 (5639-M77) and 4690 OS V2 (5639-F53). If SW Maintenance has expired, then customers wishing to reinstate their SW Maintenance must order the After License product. The following product s are orderable: Media these are the physical media, such as CD-ROMs, that deliver the product code. License and Software Maintenance 1 year Registration this is the product authorization with maintenance to the first anniversary date. Software Maintenance 1 year Renewal/Upgrade to Anniversary Date this is the maintenance renewal for one year which applies when a customer renews their existing coverage period prior to the anniversary date at which it expires. Software Maintenance after License to Anniversary Date this is for customers who have allowed their Software Maintenance to expire, and later wish to reinstate their Software Maintenance. When support is purchased, it must be ordered for every installed license of this product. The quantity of the billable feature s for support must be equal to the quantity of the billable feature s for the product license. Support is not transferable among products. Note that one terminal feature should be ordered for each POS terminal supported by the IBM 4690 OS. Also note that separate controller features must be obtained for each controller utilizing the feature. The features can be enabled using the featurization code provided with the package. It is a violation of IBM s licensing policy to enable functions using the featurization code without ordering the selected functions for a OTC. Features are listed below. Limited warranty applies: Yes Warranty: This program has warranty for a minimum of one year from acquisition from IBM or authorized IBM Business Partner. The warranty provided to the customer, for at least one year from acquisition, is access to databases (read Web sites) for program information and FAQs, including any known fixes to defects, which the customer can download or obtain otherwise and install at leisure. Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the Program, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund. Passport Advantage applies: No Usage restriction: Yes. The pricing structure of 4690 OS V4 reflects charges based on controller and terminal use. Customers will be required to obtain one terminal feature for any POS terminal supported by 4690 OS V4. This includes, but is not limited to, all models of the 4683-xxx, 4693-xxx, 4694-xxx, and SurePOS 700 POS terminals. Only those systems and adapters that are listed in the Controller Matrix on the Retail Store Solutions Knowledgebase are supported as 4690 controllers. Refer to this matrix in the Knowledgebase for a complete list of supported controllers and adapters. Search on CONTMATX in the Knowledgebase to find the Controller Matrix. Program unique terms For this Agreement, a Licensed Terminal refers to a Point of Sale (POS) terminal machine that would require the installation of a 4690 OS component. For each PoE of the 4690 OS product: You may install one copy of any, some, or all of the components of the program on a single Licensed Terminal. Except as specified below, you may not install any component of the program on any machine other than the Licensed Terminal. Additional terms and conditions: The terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Programs and Support (IIAAPS), the Attachment for Support, the Addendum for Support (Software Maintenance) for IBM Retail Store Solution Products, or equivalent agreement are in addition to the Terms in the IPLA. While support under the IIAAPS or equivalent agreement is in effect, you cannot assign or otherwise transfer a 4690 OS V4 program or your rights under the IPLA, or delegate your obligations, without prior written consent. Any such arrangements made without prior consent from IBM are invalid. You may install and use 4690 OS programs only up to the maximum of copies of each 4690 OS program for which you have paid the applicable license fee. Claims for which IBM is not responsible: IBM has no obligation regarding any claim based on any of the following: The combination, operation, or use of the 4690 OS program with other products not provided by IBM as a system, or the combination, operation, or use of a 4690 OS program with any product, data, or apparatus that IBM did not provide. Defect Warranty Customers without a Support Agreement may continue to report defect problems under the terms of program service for supported programs. Defect Warranty support provides coverage for all defect-related problems diagnosed by the customer. Code-related problem support is provided through program services. It is in effect for the currency period of the listed programs and covers IBM code-related problems. This service for Java 1 is only available until August 31, 2006, concurrent with the end of support of 4690 OS V3. A code-related problem means that the product does not conform to specifications and could be either a code or documentation error. Customers without a Support Agreement may report IBM code-related problems by fax or mail. IBM will acknowledge receipt within two working days for fax reporting and seven working days for problems reported by mail. If there is a known CSD, IBM will make it available. There will be no voice support provided during the problem resolution process. The fax and mail information should be obtained through the customer s IBM representative for the proper support center. Software Maintenance applies: Yes All distributed software licenses include Software Maintenance (software subscription and technical support) for a period of 12 months from the date of acquisition providing a streamlined way to acquire IBM software and assure technical support coverage for all licenses. While your Software Maintenance is in effect: IBM provides you assistance for your (1) routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions; and (2) code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel

9 during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Software Maintenance does not include assistance for (1) the design and development of applications, (2) your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or (3) failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.
