1 NVTI s POWERPOINT 101 1) Click on START on bottom left of screen 2) Go to PROGRAMS 3) Go to MICROSOFT POWERPOINT, click. 4) When it opens, it s on Blank Presentation Hit OK 5) Choose a Layout (click on the first one) Hit OK - This will determine what you put on your slide 6) Top of screen (Go to FORMAT), click - Click on Apply Design Template (see below) - Pick any presentation design you like - when you find one you like, click on APPLY NOW YOU RE READY FOR FIRST SLIDE (OPENING SLIDE) 1) Put cursor and CLICK TO ADD TITLE (top box) 2) Type out your presentation Header Information 3) Type sub-categories in lower CLICK TO ADD TEXT space 1

2 NEXT CREATE A SECOND SLIDE 1) Go To INSERT on top 2) Click to NEW SLIDE 3) SELECT NEXT LAYOUT NOTE, more than likely you will be using the second selection (header and three bullet points for your presentation) Hit OK. See Below. Insert 4) Once it opens, type in subject header (i.e. Resumes, Interviews, etc.) at the CLICK TO ADD TITLE box. 5) In bottom box, type your subject bullets. (If you hit return it will give you a new bullet.) You can deselect bullet by bullet menu at top. ** FOR ADDITIONAL SLIDES REPEAT ABOVE STEPS 1 5 2

3 Clip Art 1) Click on the box of the little man Icon at bottom. 2) Type the description you d like in Search for clips: Hit Enter. You will be given a variety of pictures within that category. 3) Click on clip art that best fits. NOTE: next to the picture you ve selected will be a long box Icon with four choices (see below) 4) By clicking on the top Icon, this will insert the clipart on your slide, the second box will allow you to preview that picture. Go away x Insert Preview 5) Click on Insert Icon, then close out by clicking on go-away box. This will take you to your slide with that image. 3

4 6) NOTE you can make the clip art any size by clicking on the picture, then holding down and dragging the corner of the picture to any size. To move the art, click in center of box and hold down mouse button. Drag the picture to where you want it with the mouse. To put clip art behind text or visa versa, right click mouse on the clip art once, go to ORDER. It asks you what you want to do. (send to back, send to front, etc.) Then left click to send back. INSERTING HYPERLINK WEB PAGES (See examples on next page) 1) Go to slide where you want to the web page to come up. Put curser on the word where you want link to go. (pictures work best) 2) Go to INSERT menu along top, drag down to Hyperlink 3) There are two boxes to type in A) is TEXT TO DISPLAY (this is what you want title on the slide to say or linking it to a picture) B) TYPE THE FILE/WEB PAGE (this is the web page address) note; this has to have the full address http//: etc. Hit enter. Hyperlink Example: highlight text, go to insert. Type in text to display, then web address Text Web Address INSERTING PICTURES FROM THE WEB Select slide where you want to add picture to. Then you have to minimize the PowerPoint show. Open the web, go to web picture you want to display, right click on the picture, copy. Close Internet window, right click on slide and paste. To enlarge, click on picture, grab one of the corners and drag to desired size. 4

5 SELECT YOUR TRANSITIONS 1) Lower left above DRAW there are a lot of little Icons 2) One Icon has four little boxes, click on that Icon. 3) Near top is No Transition, No Effect those allow you to put any kind of transition between each slide (transition) and between each text (effect) 4) You have to click on the slide you want to have effects take place for that particular slide. (just once). It will preview it. 5) Go to transition, choose any / go to effect, choose any. TO PREVIEW YOUR SHOW To preview your show, click on the first slide of the show just once. Click on the icon that looks like a little desk/podium. Then click the mouse button to advance through your show. To work on any slide, hit escape on keyboard and it will bring you to the overall layout. Double click on the slide you want to change and make any changes. SHADOWS (Mostly done for titles) Click on desired slide to put your shadow on. Highlight the title you want to effect. Click on green box on bottom. Select box you want to use. Click outside of text to see how it looks. BOXES AND BACKGROUNDS FOR TITLES Go to the square or circle outline on bottom. Click. You ll get a cross hair. Click on the outside of the text of where you want to have box/circle begin. Drag mouse to where you want it to end. Right click, go to ORDER, SEND TO BACK and then you can use you mouse and click and 5

6 drag to desired position, or make it larger/smaller by clicking and holding on outside of line. Or use arrows on the keyboard to move. WORD ART (Mostly used for titles) Create a new slide or where you want this to take place Click on tilted Blue A on bottom of task bar. Select desired design OK Type in title and change the size to a larger size (72) You can print out for your notes Go to FILE, PRINT, a go to PRINT WHAT. You can select slides, handouts, notes pages, outline view AFTER YOU RE DONE, SAVE IT AND NAME IT! 6
