1 2 Sytem requirement Minimum requirement: IBM compatible computer Operating ytem Window XP 1 free USB port (USB 1 1) Proceor 800 MHz or higher (recommended) 192 MB RAM min 30 MB free hard-dik memory Screen reolution 800 x 600 pixel, 1024 x 768 pixel recommended DirectX 8 1 or higher i required in all cae! 2 INSTALLATION 2 1 Driver intallation Firt, intall the driver on your computer The driver i on the CD-ROM upplied with the unit 1 Connect the BCD2000 to a free USB port on your computer 2 Start Window XP 3 Once your computer ha booted, witch on the BCD2000 and wait for the device to be detected by the ytem The Found New Hardware Wizard open up 4 Cloe all application, in particular thoe running in the background, uch a viru canner oftware 5 Put the driver/oftware CD-ROM upplied with the unit into the CD/DVD drive 6 In the firt window that open up, elect Automatic oftware intallation and click on Next > 7 If the error meage Driver oftware ha not paed Window Logo teting appear, ignore it and click on Continue anyway to intall the firt part of the driver 8 Then click on Finih 9 Now the intallation window for the WDM driver of the BCD2000 appear on the creen Again, elect Automatic oftware intallation and click on Next > 10 If the error meage i hown again ( Driver oftware ha not paed Window Logo teting ), ignore it and click on Continue anyway 11 The econd part of the driver i intalled 12 Click on Finih The driver intallation i complete After a ytem reboot, the BCD2000 i ready for ue 2 INSTALLATION 5

6 + Note for notebook uer: If you encounter problem operating the BCD2000 from your ytem, pleae diable the following etting: 1 In the Device Manager (right click on My Computer > Manage > Device Manager), click option Batterie > diable Microoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery 2 3 In the USB Controller, do the following for each ingle USB Root Hub: Right click > Propertie > Power management > diable the option Allow the computer to turn off thi device to ave power Retart Window XP Now the ytem performance of your computer hould be more table 2 2 Intallation of the B-DJ oftware Preparatory tep: In order to ue the B-DJ oftware without problem, you mut have DirectX, rev 8 1 or higher Pleae check what verion of DirectX i intalled on your ytem before you tart to intall the oftware 1 Start > Browe > File or folder 2 Select the following option on the left-hand ide (below Select the item to be earched ): File and folder 3 Enter dxdiag (= DirectX Diagnoi) in the upper text box, and click on Browe 4 Double-click on the file diag exe found in the folder C:\WINDOWS\ytem32 5 In the DirectX diagnotic program now appearing, the current DirectX reviion tored on your computer i hown at the bottom of the main Sytem page Intallation: 1 Open Window Explorer (My Computer > right moue button > Explorer) 2 In Window Explorer, elect the drive containing the BCD2000 driver/oftware CD-ROM (e g double click on DVD drive (D:)) 3 Select the folder B-DJ Software 4 Double-click on the etup file ( exe) to tart intallation 5 Follow the on-creen intallation intruction After intallation, the B-DJ oftware will be ready to operate Open the B-DJ program by double-clicking on the B-DJ icon on the dektop or ue Start > Program > XYLIO B-DJ > B-DJ Pleae note that the B-DJ Software can only be ued if the BCD2000 hardware i connected and witched on! 2 3 Control panel oftware The BCD2000 control panel allow you to control ome general etting of the BCD2000 The control panel will be available in the ytem a oon a the driver ha been intalled and the BCD2000 ha been connected and witched on To tart the control panel oftware, click on the BCD2000 control panel ymbol in the tak bar at the bottom right of your creen If the B-DJ oftware ha already been tarted, you can alo acce the control panel from the Configuration menu The following baic etting can be elected in the control panel: GLOBAL MODE election: If B-DJ i elected, you can only adjut the input ource for IN A (Mic or Phono A) and the driver latency on the ASIO page (ee below) The output are aigned a follow: CH 1-2: channel 1-2 are alway routed to the MASTER OUT, CH 3-4: channel 3-4 are alway routed to the PHONES OUT Additionally, the BCD2000 MIDI characteritic differ from thoe in ADVANCED mode (ee below) In ADVANCED mode, all election option are available in the ASIO window The ASIO page: Fig 2 1: The ASIO window in the BCD2000 control panel Thi i where all ASIO driver parameter can be adjuted Mot profeional muic program ue ASIO, a doe our B-DJ oftware You can only elect one oftware button per field In the field IN A (CH 1-2), you can elect the input ource to be routed to the computer on channel 1-2 (Record) In the MASTER OUT ection, you can elect the playback channel CH 1-2 or CH 3-4 for the main output (Playback) In the PHONES OUT field, you can elect the playback channel CH 1-2 or CH 3-4 for the headphone connector (Playback) Ue DRIVER LATENCY to adjut the latency in order to optimize your computer performance If you et the control to low thi will optimize the repone of your BCD2000, but alo increae the proceor workload In extreme cae, thi can lead to clicking and drop-out in the audio ignal The mid poition give you a good compromie between proceor workload and the repone time of the BCD2000 A high latency enure trouble-free performance even on low computer + Latency i the time that elape between an operator action on the BCD2000 (e g preing the PLAY button) and the actual output of the audio ignal from the OUT connector Latency depend on the ytem ued and the proceing peed of your computer Typical latencie are in the milliecond range (1 m = one thouandth of a econd) Mot people cannot hear latencie below 10 m When audio ignal are paing through a computer, it i impoible to achieve a 0-m latency 6 2 INSTALLATION

7 The WDM/MME page: B-CONTROL DEEJAY BCD2000 Fig 2 2: The WDM/MME window in the BCD2000 control panel Ue the WDM/MME driver if your muic oftware doe not upport ASIO (e g mot oftware media player) RECORD SELECT allow you to elect BCD2000 input IN A or IN B for 2-channel recording When you chooe IN A, you can determine in the left-hand field whether the phono or microphone ignal will be recorded PLAYBACK of thi driver type i alway tereo (channel 1-2) For thi reaon, the MASTER OUT connector on the rear panel and the PHONES connector on the front panel alway provide the ame muic ignal The MIDI page: Fig 2 3: The MIDI window in the BCD2000 control panel On the MIDI page no parameter can be et It only inform you about the variou MIDI mode, depending on the GLOBAL MODE elected: In B-DJ mode, the button are toggle off, i e when you releae a button after preing, the MIDI command i et back to it original value (like when you releae a key on a keyboard) In B-DJ mode, all LED can be witched on and off individually with pecific MIDI command In ADVANCED mode, all button are toggle on, i e pre = witch on ; pre again = witch off the MIDI function (imilar to a light witch) In ADVANCED mode, the repone of the button LED depend on the repective button, i e LED on = function enabled, LED off = function diabled 2 INSTALLATION 7

8 3 CONTROL ELEMENTS AND CONNECTIONS The variou control element of your BCD2000 are decribed in thi chapter All control and connection are explained in detail, and there are everal ueful tip on their ue 3 1 Control urface Fig 3 1: The BCD2000 control element The microphone input ection (MIC INPUT) Set the volume of the microphone ignal with the MIC LEVEL control The CLIP LED illuminate a oon a the microphone ignal level i too high and could poibly caue audible ditortion If thi happen, lightly turn the MIC LEVEL control counterclockwie The microphone input ection ha a 2-band equalizer (EQ HIGH for high frequencie and EQ LOW for low frequencie) Ue the TALKOVER button to activate the oftware talkover function The talk-over function reduce the mater output ignal and can come in handy when your own voice need to be prominently heard When you want to make an announcement, alo pre button The ON AIR button route the microphone ignal to the mater output ignal The FX CONTROL ection Thee four control a well a the button A to D can have variou oftware function aigned to them By default they are aigned to the two effect ection Ue the ANALOG INPUT button to elect the input ource If the button are not preed, the ignal from deck A and B of the oftware are played back When you pre a button, the analog input ignal will be added to the correponding deck in the B-DJ oftware Deck A can play back the phono input A or the microphone ignal Deck B play back the ignal applied at input B (phono or CD) The input ource for deck A i choen in the control panel (ee chapter 2 3), while the input ource for deck B i elected on the rear panel (phono/line witch ) The OUTPUT ection The PHONES output (1/4" tereo connector) i ued for connecting headphone Ue the PHONES control to adjut the volume for the headphone output 8 3 CONTROL ELEMENTS AND CONNECTIONS

9 The PFL MIX control determine the headphone volume ratio between deck A and deck B Both ignal can be heard in both earcup (tereo) When the PHONES SPLIT button i preed, it control the volume ratio between the ignal of deck A in the left and deck B in the right earcup PHONES SPLIT/MASTER OUT button In the poition PHONES SPLIT (pre button briefly) the ignal of both deck are eparated in the headphone In thi cae, they will be audible in mono in each earphone In the poition MASTER OUT (keep button preed until button LED tart flahing), the ame ignal i applied to the headphone output and the mater output Thi allow you to control your crofader kill, for example, when practicing at home or when there i nothing connected to the mater output Set the volume of the MASTER output MASTER OUTPUT control B-CONTROL DEEJAY BCD2000 with the The POWER ON-LED light up when the BCD2000 i witched on The deck ection A and B The control element of deck A and B are the ame However, ome of them are grouped the oppoite way round We will therefore decribe the element to only once All of thee control element refer to the oftware function which can be remotely controlled from the BCD2000 The crofader i ued to fade between deck A and deck B Ue the GAIN control to adjut the input ignal Each deck feature a 3-band equalizer (HI, MID and LOW) with kill feature Thu, the ignal can be attenuated to a much greater extent (-36 db) than it can be raied (+12 db) The CUT button below the EQ control give you maximum ignal attenuation at the touch of a button In thi way, you can fade out a pecific frequency range of a muic piece completely and produce intereting filter effect For beat juggling, too, thi function i a mut When you pre the BACK TO TOP button, the ong poition pointer i et back to the beginning of the piece Playback top even though the deck ha jut played! LOOP IN/END determine the tart and end point of a equence to be played back everal time in a loop Pre the button to et the loop tart point, and then again to et the end point Once the end point ha been et, the loop tart, i e the equence i played back from the tart point and i repeated until you pre the LOOP OUT button LOOP OUT deactivate the loop which wa tarted with button Depending on the etting choen in the oftware configuration, the loop i either deleted directly or repeated one more time SYNC SLAVE i a function which allow you to automatically adapt the tempo of two muic piece to each other The ong whoe SYNC SLAVE button i preed, i automatically adapted to meet the tempo of the ong currently playing The cratch function i uually active only when the deck i in paue mode The SCRATCH button activate the cratch function of the cratch wheel alo during playback (PLAY button preed) With the VOLUME fader, you can control the volume While mixing, it i important to have the ame volume in both deck Ue the CUE button to et and elect the cue point Pre the CUE button a little longer to delete the currently elected CUE point How to ue the CUE function i decribed in chapter 5 2 Playback i tarted with the PLAY/PAUSE button Pre thi button again to top playback Pre the button once again to reume playback from the poition where it topped BEND button Pre the UP button (+) to raie the playback tempo Pre the DOWN button ( ) to low down the playback tempo With thi function you can ynchronize the beat of two piece currently running In the Configuration window of the B-DJ oftware you can adjut the percentage by which the tempo i changed The pitch fader provide continuouly adjutable playback tempo control The pitch range can be adjuted in the Configuration menu Ue the SEARCH button to move forward or backward in a ong The function performed by the cratch wheel depend on whether the deck i in PLAY or PAUSE mode PLAY: pitch bend i active Thi function mimic the pitching technique (accelerating and lowing down the turntable to adapt the rhythm of two vinyl record to each other) Turn the cratch wheel clockwie to raie the playback tempo Turn it counter-clockwie to low down the tempo However, if the SCRATCH button i preed, you can alo cratch during playback PAUSE: Cue Search i active: You can both cratch and locate exact cue poition 3 2 The rear panel Fig 3 2: The rear-panel audio connector of the BCD2000 MIC INPUT The MIC IN connector i the balanced XLR input for your dynamic microphone The analog input A (PHONO) i ued for connecting a turntable Connect the ground cable on your turntable to the GND crew on the BCD2000 houing Analog input B To connect a CD player or tape deck to thi input, et the witch to LINE Connect the MASTER OUTPUT to your power amplifier It provide the main output ignal, which can be adjuted with the MASTER control SERIAL NUMBER 3 CONTROL ELEMENTS AND CONNECTIONS 9

10 5 OPERATION The operating concept of the B-DJ ytem ha been deigned o that you will undertand it quickly and intuitively All control element are arranged in a way you probably know from DJ mixer or DJ CD player The uer interface (BCD2000 Blue Skin) i almot identical to the uer interface of the BCD2000, o that you can control a many function a poible from the B-CONTROL, thu knowing immediately where to do what without having to touch your computer moue Fig 3 3: POWER witch, main and USB connector The USB connector i ued for connecting to a computer with a compatible USB port The BCD2000 ue the USB connector to end and receive audio and control data A tandard power ocket i provided for connection to the main A matching power cable i included with the unit The POWER witch turn your BCD2000 on and off It hould alway be in the OFF poition (out) when connecting the unit to or diconnecting the unit from the main + Pleae note: The power witch doe not completely eparate your BCD2000 from AC power If you plan on not uing your BCD2000 for a prolonged period of time, pleae diconnect it from the main by removing the power cable from the wall outlet 5 1 Firt tep Wiring Firt of all, connect all the device you need to the BCD2000 Make ure the unit i off before connecting it to other equipment If you want to ue the BCD2000 without additional audio ource (CD player, turntable, microphone), you only need to wire the output: 4 THE B-DJ SOFTWARE Here a hort overview of the encloed B-DJ program Since many program function are controlled from the B-CONTROL, chapter 5 decribe how to work with the B-DJ ytem (hardware and oftware) a a whole A detailed decription of the B-DJ oftware can be found in the encloed B-DJ manual (pdf document acceible via Configuration > Help) Fig 4 1: The main B-DJ window The B-DJ uer interface i divided into everal ection: the two deck are diplayed in the lower left and right halve of the creen, like two CD player or turntable (deck A i on the left and deck B i on the right) Between the two deck, there i the mixer ection with the crofader and level indicator for both deck a well a the mater level indicator The Lit Brower i located in the upper half of the creen, on the left; the lit currently elected i hown on the right In the middle of the creen, there are the two graphic waveform diplay howing the track currently loaded in the deck Fig 5 1: Standard wiring of the BCD2000 Connect the MASTER output to your hi-fi ytem, a pair of active peaker or the PA ytem in the club where you are playing Connect your headphone to the PHONES output The BEHRINGER DJ headphone HPX4000 are particularly well uited Program launch Once you have intalled the driver and B-DJ oftware, you can launch the program Boot your computer, then witch on the BCD2000 Your computer will detect the driver and diplay the control panel icon Start the B-DJ program via the Start bar or by clicking on the B-DJ icon 10 5 OPERATION
