3 New Document/Report Installation Before you begin The following instructions describe how to install new document or report packages. Please note that the name of your server may not match the ones shown in the screenshots below; so make sure to reference your own information where applicable. Steps to Install New Document or Report Packages 1. Back up your Database: Open and connect to SSMS.exe (SQL Server Management Studio). This will be located on the same server as your Database. In some cases, this may also be your SoftPro Select Application Server. Locate your SelectDB Database: Right click the SelectDB database, then select Tasks > Back Up : 3

4 You will need to specify a backup location in the destination panel. If anything is already pre-populated when you get to this view, remove it, and specify the location with the Add option: Click the ellipses to specify a save location for the backup (.bak) file. 4

5 Browse to the directory where you want the backup saved, and type in a name with a.bak extension. It is recommended to use today s date. For example: SelectDB_ bak : Click OK on the following screen: 5

6 Click OK on the next screen. Your backup is now initializing. When complete, you can close out of SQL Server Management Studio. 2. Locate your Middle-Tier server (this may be the same machine running Microsoft SQL Server); you need to Stop the SoftPro Select Services. These are the services that allow end-user workstations to connect and communicate with the database. Double click this desktop icon to access the services: If you don t have a Desktop Icon like this, you may access the services with the following steps. o Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools. Double-click SoftPro Select Services: 6

7 You might not see anything on the left except for SoftPro Select Services: If this is the case, you ll need to perform the following steps: o Right click SoftPro Select Services & choose Select a computer to manage. o The Add Configuration Server window will appear: o Choose OK. You should now see a server appear in the center panel. 7

8 Double click the site: Double click Computers: Double click the computer icon: Your screen should look similar to the following: Right click on the Server Name line and choose Stop: 8

9 The State column will show Offline after choosing Stop. Leave this window open; you will need to use it again. 3. Installing the package(s). You may receive multiple.exe files to install. If this is the case: o Documentation should be provided explaining the order in which these.exe should be installed. o If no order is specified, install the files in alphabetical order; be sure to begin with installation packages that have file names starting with numbers. Right click on a package and choose Run as Administrator. Click Next on the first screen: Accept the Terms and Conditions; click Next. Select your SQL server from the first drop-down list. If it does not appear, you will need to manually type it in (i.e.-sqlserver\softpro): 9

10 Select your database from the second drop-down. Click Next and then install. Click Finish once the installation is complete. 4. Start the SoftPro Select Services. Return to SoftPro Select Services window. Right click on the Server Name in the center column, and click Start. The service should now be Online. You are done. NOTE: If you perform a Document/Report install and users report that they cannot log in after you have started the services, make sure the server was not started in Admin Mode. To determine if that is the case, re-open the Select Services window and right click on the Server Name. It should say Admin Mode: If it says Normal Mode, you will need to click on that to change it back to Admin Mode.
