1 Job Aid: Replacing a G700 media gateway with a G450 media gateway Important:! This job aid describes the procedures for replacing an installed G700 Media Gateway with a G450 Media Gateway. It includes instructions for moving the media modules, including an S8300 LSP, if installed, from the G700 to the G450 Media Gateway. Before you start Pre-requisites The primary controller must be running Communication Manager Release 5.0 or later. A gateway type g450 will not appear on earlier releases of Communication Manager. If Communication Manager is using the serial number of the G700 Media Gateway, create an updated RFA license file and authentication file using the serial number of the G450 Media Gateway. If you are transferring an S8300 LSP to the G450 Media Gateway, create a new RFA license file and authentication file which contain the serial number of the G450. You will also need to upgrade the LSP to Release 5.0 or later. Obtain the serial and gateway number of the G700 Media Gateway. You can obtain a list of gateways with their associated serial numbers by running the list media-gateway command from the SAT prompt at the main controller. Obtain the serial number of the G450 Media Gateway. The MM760 (VoIP) Media Modules do not port over to the G450 Media Gateway. The G450 Media Gateway comes equipped with either a MP80 or MP20 VoIP card. Verify that the G450 Media Gateway components that appear on the order are installed before using this document Issue 1.0 June

2 Job Aid: Replacing a G700 media gateway with a G450 media gateway Recommendations The procedures listed in this job aid require extensive changes to Communication Manager translations. Avaya recommends reusing the media gateway number so that the impact on translations is minimal. For example, if the G700 Media Gateway used media gateway 1, then the G450 should be administered as media gateway 1. The announcement files can be moved using either of the following: The Voice Announcement Manager (VAM) The enable filexfer SAT command. This command uses FTP to copy files from the G700 Media Gateway to the Communication Manager server for download to the G450. Replacing a G700 gateway with a G450 gateway 1. Install and configure the G450 Media Gateway using the instructions found in Installing and Upgrading the Avaya G450 Media Gateway, Do not connect the G450 Media Gateway to the network at this time. 2. Connect to the Communication Manager server that is controlling the G700 Media Gateway. 3. Save translations. 4. Backup the server. 5. Check for alarms. 6. Connect to the G700 Media Gateway. 7. On the Communication Manager server that is controlling the G450 Media Gateway, remove all the announcements assigned to the G700 Media Gateway. Announcements are stored on the G700 Media Gateway motherboard. - Enter list announcement to identify the assigned announcements. An announcement may be associated with other translations such as a VDN of origin announcement or audio-group. - Move the announcement files using Voice Announcement Manager (VAM), or using the enable filexfer SAT command. 8. Run the following commands on the command line interface of the G700 Media Gateway: a. Enter show sync timing to determine if synchronization on the media gateway was administered. If synchronization was administered on the G700 Media Gateway then it must be administered on the G450 Media Gateway. b. Enter show mgc to determine the server controlling the gateway. 2 G700 to 450 job aid

3 Replacing a G700 gateway with a G450 gateway c. Enter show mgc list to obtain the values in the list. Record this information so you can enter it when setting up the MGC list for the G450 Media Gateway. 9. Using the command line interface of the G700 Media Gateway, unregister the G700 by clearing the mgc list as follows: a. Enter configure to change to configuration mode. b. Enter clear mgc list. c. Enter show mgc list. The list should now be blank. d. Enter reset mgp to reset the gateway. Steps 10 through 14, excluding step 12, are performed using the SAT interface of the Communication Manager that is the primary controller of the G700 Media Gateway. 10. At the SAT prompt, enter list media-gateway to verify that the gateway is unregistered. An n appears in the Reg? column when the gateway is unregistered. 11. Turn off Terminal Translation Initialization (TTI) if on: a. At the SAT prompt, enter change sys feature. b. On page 3 of the change sys feature screen, change the Terminal Translation Initialization (TTI) enabled field to an n. c. Check the status of the ports by entering status tti and list config media-gateway N (where N is the number of the G700 Media Gateway you are removing). Ensure that unused port assignments become u instead of p. 12. If an LSP is installed in the G700, shutdown the LSP and transfer it to the G450: a. Connect the Service s laptop to the LSP. b. Execute a delayed shutdown on the LSP using the web interface. c. When the OK to Remove LED lights up, remove the LSP from the G700 Media Gateway and install it in the same slot on the G450 Media Gateway. 13. Change station or trunk port assignments or remove the stations and trunks. You must change station or trunk port assignments or remove the stations and trunks before you will be allowed to remove their associated media modules from the G700 Media Gateway. The media modules must be removed before the gateway type can be changed from a G700 Media Gateway to a G450 Media Gateway. a. Remove all G700 slot and port associations to trunk groups. - Enter list trunk-group to identify trunk groups that are assigned to a port on the G700 Media Gateway. For each of these trunk groups, identify the ports and remove them from the trunk group. Issue 1.0 June

4 Job Aid: Replacing a G700 media gateway with a G450 media gateway - If the trunk group is not an ISDN type, first remove the members associated with the trunk group, and then enter remove trunk-group number. - If the trunk group is an ISDN type: - Remove the signaling group association to the trunk group. - Use change signaling-group and space out the entry in the Trunk Group for Channel Selection field. - Remove the trunk group. - Remove the signaling group. - Remove the DS1 translation. b. Remove stations or change the port assignment to an x-port: - Use list station to identify if a station is assigned to a port on the G700 Media Gateway. 14. At the SAT prompt, change the media gateway translations: a. Enter change media-gateway N (where N is the number of the G700 Media Gateway you are removing). b. Blank out the S8300 LSP entry, if an entry exists. c. Blank out the media modules and the voice media module (gateway-announcement). d. Press Enter. 15. Remove power from the G700 Media Gateway. 16. Remove the G700 Media Gateway from the rack. 17. Physically remove the media modules from the G700 Media Gateway and insert them into the G450 Media Gateway. 18. On the Communication Manager server that is controlling the G450 Media Gateway, use the SAT to change the gateway type to a G450 Media Gateway: a. Enter change media-gateway N (where N is the number of the G700 Media Gateway you are removing). b. In the Type field enter g450. c. In the Serial No. field, enter the serial number associated with the G450 Media Gateway. d. If announcements are used, enter gateway-announcements in slot 9. e. Press Enter. 19. Readminister the stations, lines, and trunks, using the SAT interface of the Communication Manager controlling the G450 Media Gateway. 20. Connect the network cable to the G450 Media Gateway. Verify that the G450 Media Gateway registers with the main controller by entering the list media-gateway command at the SAT prompt. 4 G700 to 450 job aid

If the serial number of the G700 Media Gateway was used to license Communication Manager, install on that server the new license and authentication files with the serial number of the G450 Media Gateway. 22. Re-administer the synchronization parameters, as needed. 23. If you removed announcements from the G700 Media Gateway, install the announcements on the G450 Media Gateway. 24. If you transferred an S8300 LSP from the G700 to the G450, upgrade the LSP to release 5.0 or later. During the upgrade, install the new license and authentication files on the LSP. Take care to install the new license and authentication files within 30 minutes of upgrading, to avoid entering license error mode. 25. Clear alarms. 26. Save translations. Issue 1.0 June
