SUN VALLEY, NV To: From: Board of Trustees Date: Re: REVISED: Discussion and possible direction to staff regarding replacement of Computer Servers with associated Operating System software History The current servers in use were purchased: DC Server the Domain Server that controls the entire network purchased Out of warranty and Dell will no longer renew warranty contracts for it. DC2 Server the Spring Brook Server that runs the Utility Billing and Accounting software - purchased Will be out of warranty in Dell will no longer renew warranty contracts for this one. Utility Billing & Accounting software Replacing/upgrading our current business software requires newer versions of the operating system than our current servers are capable of using. Computer hardware usually has a useful lifespan of 3-5 years for workstations and 5-8 years for advanced servers. Traditionally, Sun Valley GID has done hardware/software upgrades only about every 8-10 years. We generally exceed the useful lifespan by several years. As our current servers are out of warranty (or soon to be), it would be prudent at this time to replace them. On the following pages are quotes for a new Server with the associated operating system software. Staff is recommending we purchase 2 identical Servers and appropriate operating software for each. Total price for the purchase would be $12, The budget for fiscal year 2013/2014 contains funds for this project within the Acquisition Fund. AdviseTech, our current outsourced support personnel, will be preforming installation and assistance at their negotiated hourly rate of $ I will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
