2 IMPORTANT NOTICE This document covers the specific actions needed to install the Infinity "L" display hood into existing Infinity "L" systems. The purpose of the display hood is to shield the display from direct sunlight and to minimize glare. The display hood will also improve readability and prevent unevenness or blotching from occurring on the screen. The display hood is intended to replace the coated lexan window and internal fans which were part of the original outdoor package. For any information about the Infinity systems and/or their installation, please refer to the installation or programming and use manuals. This document is divided into four sections: the removal of the present display assembly, the removal of the fans, the installation of the display hood and the reinstallation of the display assembly. It is imperative that you ground yourself thoroughly before you begin this installation. The Infinity system contains a number of static sensitive components which can be damaged by static discharge during the installation of the display hood or during regular use. This type of damage is not covered under Sentex's warranty. 3 1 - REMOVING THE DISPLAY ASSEMBLY WARNING: It is imperative that you ground yourself thoroughly before coming in contact with the Infinity system. The Infinity systems contain a number of static sensitive components which can be damaged by static discharge during the installation of the display hood or during regular use. This type of damage is not covered under the Sentex warranty. The following instructions describe how to properly remove the display from the Infinity "L" system cabinet. Please follow these instructions in a sequential order to ensure there will not be any damage to the display, or the display controller board. If a part included with the system is damaged during the installation, you might need to replace it with an previously used part. Therefore, save all parts that are removed from the system. 1) Unplug the power from area TB1 of the Infinity Main Processor Board (see Appendix 1). 2) On the left-hand side of the display assembly, carefully remove the display data cable from area J1 on the display controller board and from the clip on the rear of the display (see Figure 1). Figure 1 - Removing the Display Data Cable from the Display Controller Board 3) With the use of a #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws from the white insulating cover on the display controller board. 4 4) On the top of the display controller board, remove the backlight power connector from area J3 (see Figure 3). Figure 3 - Disconnecting the Display Power Plug 5) With the use of the #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the two (2) screws located in the lower corners of the display controller board. Then with the use of a 1/4" nut driver or pliers, remove the standoffs from the upper corners of the display controller board. The display controller board will be loose when you remove these parts. Therefore, be careful that the display controller board does not fall off of the cabinet door when you remove the standoffs. 6) Carefully fold down the top of the display controller board towards you. Carefully remove the cable which attaches the display controller board to the display. Then, remove the display controller board from the display and place it on a solid static-free surface (see Figure 4). Figure 4 - Removing the Display Cable from the Display Page 4 of 13 Doc Rev B

5 7) Unplug the thermistor from the main processor board (area J9) and unstring the thermistor wires from the clips on the side and the door of the Infinity cabinet (see Figure 5). Figure 5 - Unplugging the Thermistor from the Main Processor Board 8) With a 1/4" nut driver or pliers, remove the four (4) standoffs off of the back of the display. Carefully remove the display from the display brackets and place it with the screen down on a cushioned staticfree surface (see Figure 6). Figure 6 - Removing the Display from the Window 9) With a 5/16" nut driver or pliers, remove the nuts from the upper and lower display brackets from the door of the Infinity cabinet (see Figure 7). 6 10) With a razor blade knife, carefully remove all of the RTV seal from the sides of the window opening on the cabinet door. 11) With a 5/16" nut driver or pliers, remove the nuts from the sides of the window. 7 2 - REMOVING THE INTERNAL FANS 1) On the main processor board, unplug the fans from areas J16 and J17 (located in the upper left-hand corner of the board). 2) With a 5/16" nut driver, remove the four (4) nuts from each corner of the fan and remove the fan from the cabinet (see Figure 9). On the studs from which the fans were removed, remove all of the rubber isolators. Figure 9 - Removing the Fans from the Infinity Cabinet 3) Take the fan hole covers and place one over each of the studs which were previously used to support the fans. Then take the 6-32 nuts and place one over each of the studs and tighten until the fan hole covers are securely attached against the cabinet (see Figure 10). 8 3 - INSTALLING THE HOOD INTO THE INFINITY CABINET Please follow these instructions in their sequential order to prevent against damage to any part of the Infinity system or to the display hood. 1) On the front side of the display brackets (the side facing towards the hood), cover each of the four (4) display brackets with a single strip of clear silicon sealer in the corner that will be facing the cabinet door (see Figure 11). Figure 11 - Placement of the Silicon Sealer on the Display Brackets 2) From the rear of the cabinet door, place the display hood through the window opening until the window brackets are resting on the cabinet door. Place the six (6) nuts in the appropriate openings on the window brackets and tighten securely (see Figure 12). Figure 12 - Inserting and Securing the Display Hood into the Cabinet Door 3) Fill the corners between the cabinet door and the display hood with an additional strip of clear silicon rubber adhesive sealant as necessary to make a complete seal. 9 4 - REINSTALLING THE DISPLAY ASSEMBLY This section covers the reinstallation of the display assembly after the display hood has been installed. With this installation, it is necessary that the display is covered with the anti-glare film. If your display was previously installed with this film, begin your reinstallation with step 6. If your display did not previously have the anti-glare film, begin your installation with step 1. 1) Place the anti-glare film on the display screen with the glossy side face down. DO NOT REMOVE THE ADHESIVE BACKING YET. 2) Place a piece of masking tape along one side of the anti-glare film. With a smaller piece of masking tape, construct a handle and attach it to the opposite end of the anti-glare film (see Figure 13). Figure 13 - Placement of the Masking Tape on the Anti-Glare Film 3) With the handle, carefully pull back the anti-glare film from the display. Then remove the backing off of the anti-glare film. Do not touch the adhesive area of the anti-glare film. All marks made on this side of the film will be permanent. 4) With the side of a smooth piece of plastic, affix the anti-glare film onto the display (see Figure 14). Then, smooth out any air bubbles that might be present. Remove the masking tape from both ends of the film. Figure 14 - Adhering the Anti-Glare Film to the Display 5) Spray a small amount of window cleaner onto a soft cloth and lightly clean the front of the display. Do not use harsh cleaners or it will scratch the display. Also, do not spray the cleaner directly onto the display surface. Rev. B Doc Page 9 of 13

10 6) If you have a Sharp LCD display, take the two thin strips of black adhesive (supplied by Sentex) and remove the backing. On the front of the LCD display, place one of the adhesive strips over the top silver metal segment and one of the adhesive strips on the bottom silver metal segment. Then take the two thick strips of black adhesive (supplied by Sentex), remove the backing, and place one strip on each of the metal sides of the display (see Figure 15). If you have an Optrex LCD display, you will not need to perform this step. Figure 15 - Attaching the Black Adhesive Tape to the Front of a Sharp Display 7) Carefully place the display onto the four (4) standoffs attached to the display hood. Secure the display by attaching a 1/2" standoff onto each of the existing standoffs retaining the display (see Figure 16). NOTE: The original display brackets are not used in with the display hood. 11 8) Place the backlight power connector (the wires protruding from the rear of the display) towards the top of the cabinet door. Then connect the display cable to the pins on the rear of the display (see Figure 17). Figure 17 - Connecting the Display Ribbon Cable to the Display 9) Place the display controller board onto the four (4) standoffs standing out from the display. Attach a one inch standoff over each of the upper two (2) display standoffs and tighten securely. Then insert two (2) screws into the bottom standoffs and tighten until the display controller board is securely attached to the display (see Figure 18). Figure 18 - Attaching the Display Controller Board to the Cabinet Door 10) Take the backlight power connector from the top of the display and plug it onto the pins in area J3 on the display controller board. The purple wire should be on pin 1 and the orange wire should be on pin 6. Take the black cable clamp and connect the wires leading from the display power connector onto the top of the upper display bracket. Rev. B Doc Page 11 of 13

12 11) Place the white insulating cover on top of the upper two standoffs on the display controller board and insert two of the enclosed screws into the upper standoffs and tighten securely (see Figure 19). Figure 19 - Installation of the Insulator to the Display Controller Board 12) Take the data cable hanging from the main processor board and plug it into area J1 on the display controller board (see Figure 20). Figure 20 - Connection of the Display Data Cable to the Display Controller Board 13) Place the new thermistor onto the pins in area J9 of the main processor board. 14) Re-connect the power to area TB1 on the main processor board (see Appendix 1).
