1 BIC Innovation R & D Logger Mobile App This app is to help you as a producer or manager of a business to record research and development activity. Why? The government rightly supports R&D activity and offers a tax incentive that effectively means that costs (including your time and that of colleagues and partner organisations) can be included in the calculation of the R&D tax credit. This means that for your limited company the tax corporation tax liability can be reduced or even eliminated with a carry-forward amount to off-set future profits. In addition, if you are participating in a project that is government sponsored this activity record may well be part of your company s contribution to the funding of the activity. In either case, the value of recording the project / R&D activity is essential. We hope that this app assists that. Guidance notes below are to help you navigate around the app. There will be separate notes for recording activity in terms of the style and content. The R&D logger App allows authorised users to log all R&D activity against specific projects. The App has a cloud database with a hierarchical user structure whereby all R&D activity is logged to a project. Each project has a leader who can message all project members and download CSV files of all activity. Projects are organised by company with each company having a company administrator user who can create users and projects within that company. Administration of companies and projects happens on a web administration portal and the logging of R&D activity is done via the Android mobile app as shown below. 2 App Screens On starting the app the home screen is shown which has introductory text and the Tabbed Navigation links at the bottom of the screen. Clicking the Projects tab will take you to the Projects screen or the Login screen depending on whether you have logged in yet. The icon at the top, righthand side of the screen opens the options menu - this menu allows you to log out of the app. If you stay logged in (the default state) then you can go straight to the Projects screen whenever you start the app without having to log in.

3 Login Screen If this is your first use of the app you will be directed to the login screen. Enter the username and password provided in the Welcome you will have received when you account was created.

4 Projects Screen Once you have logged in, clicking the Projects tab takes you to the list of projects you have been assigned to. For each project you can click through to view the Project Activity screen ( view all activity button). You can also click the download all activity button to trigger an to your account with a CSV file of all project activity.

5 Project Activity Screen The Project Activity screen shows all project activity from the most recent activity log to the oldest. Each time activity is logged a panel appears at the top of this page that details The activity type ( Informal, Meeting etc) The activity date The activity duration The number of participants Short notes on the activity NB At the top right of the screen is a plus ( + ) link. Clicking this link opens the Add R&D Activity page.

6 Add Project Activity Screen This page allows you to enter details of new activity on the project. Once you have entered all the information click the add log entry button at the bottom of the page. This adds the new log entry to the database and takes you back to the Project Activity screen.
