The target audience for Jen Smith Photography includes end-users who are interested in photography services and endusers interested in viewing photographs by Jen Smith Photography. Content Home Page This page will present a welcome message and a few selected images. Gallery The gallery will be comprised of many photo gallery pages representing various examples of the type of photography services offered by Jen Smith Photography. Services This page will describe the services offered by Jen Smith Photography. Contact Information This page will include information to contact Jen Smith Photography. Photographer Information This page will include background information about the photographer and how the client started Jen Smith Photography. Guestbook The guestbook will provide a way for visitors and customers to publicly provide feedback and comments to Jen Smith Photography. Rev of 12
Global Template Design Layout All pages will use the same template. All of the content and images will appear in the black box. The elements of the page are described in the Global Template Settings section. Logo Navigation Content Breadcrumb navigation Figure 1: Template Copyright Scrolling The page will not scroll if viewed at 1280x1024 or better. If resolution set to 1024x768, scrolling is necessary to view the whole page, but images can be viewed in the galleries without scrolling after the scroll bar is positioned. Rev of 12
Global Template Settings Logo/Name: Top center of each page Background color: # Primary Navigation: Primary navigation links will appear horizontally on the top of every page. Font: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif Size: 11 pixels Link-color: o link: # o hover: #FFFFFF o active: #FFFFFF o visited: # Style: Letter-spacing: 2px Figure 2: Primary Navigation Secondary Navigation: Secondary navigation links will appear vertically on the right side of the first and second layer gallery pages. First Layer Font: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif Size: 16 pixels Link-color: o link: # o hover: #FFFFFF o active: #FFFFFF o visited: # Style: Letter-spacing: 2px Second Layer Font: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif Size: 11 pixels Link-color: o link: # o hover: #FFFFFF o active: #FFFFFF o visited: # Style: Letter-spacing: 2px Rev of 12
Figure 3: Secondary Navigation on first gallery level Figure 4: Secondary Navigation on second gallery level Bodytext: Font: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif Size: 11 pixels Color: # Style: Letter-spacing: 2px Breadcrumb Navigation: Appears on the bottom left side of all the pages. Figure 5: Breadcrumb navigation Rev of 12
Copyright Info: Bottom center of each page. copyright 2006 jensmithphotography.com jensmithphotography.com is a mailto link to info@jensmithphotography.com. It is not wise to put a direct link to an address because spam bots search the internet for addresses (Peterson, 2004). Therefore, I encrypted the address using a program to convert the text to Unicode. Bots search for character, so by converting the character to Unicode, the bots do not find the address. This will hopefully prevent the address from being placed on a spam list. Figure 6: Copyright Information Rev of 12
Structure and Page Descriptions The structure and page descriptions are further defined in the web site map pdf. There will be one layer of navigation for the following pages: About, Services, Contact, Guestbook. There will be three layers of navigation for the following pages: Gallery First Gallery Layer: The first layer will consist of links to the gallery categories. Figure 7: First Gallery Layer Rev of 12
Second Gallery Layer: The second layer will keep the gallery category links and will display the gallery links for the chosen category underneath the category heading. The picture on the left will change to display an image from the chosen category. Figure 8: Second Gallery Layer Rev of 12
Third Gallery Layer: The third layer will display the gallery page. To return to the second gallery layer, there are breadcrumbs link on the bottom left corner of the page. Figure 9: Third Gallery Level - Gallery Page Rev of 12
Special Technology The galleries are Flash generated using SimpleViewer software ( SimpleViewer provides a plug-in for Picasa ( to quickly and easily to create customizable web galleries. The application allows for quick pre-loading and stylish navigation design. If an end-user does not have Flash installed, the user is redirected to a download page. Using SimpleViewer software will also allow the client to easily add new galleries to the site. Schedule The website for Jen Smith Photography will be completed by May 7, Preliminary Storyboard February 19, 2006 Template Design March 5, 2006 Framework Design March 12, 2006 Website Complete May 7, 2006 Current Challenges Gallery navigation: (4/2/06) My initial design was to build a horizontal navigation menu with roll-over dropdown options for the gallery categories. After testing several designs, the design may need to be modified. Gallery Navigation Follow Up: This item was resolved by removing the horizontal navigation menu and creating three layers of gallery pages. The roll-over drop-down menus were only compatible with Internet Explorer 5.0+; therefore, a new solution was needed. (4/16/06) Maintenance and Development The client will have the ability to add new galleries and modify the content of the site. The client will not have the ability to modify the design of the site. For design changes, the client will need to contact ABC Web Designs to request a change. In the future, password protected galleries will be made available to customers in order to view all of their pictures online. This will allow customers select prints to purchase and share galleries friends and family. If a solution to the roll-over drop-down menus is found, ABC Web Designs will contact the client to provide an upgrade to the site. Rev of 12
