9 The recent mobile BI market study from Howard Dresner Business Intelligence ranked in the Top Three (out of 11 choices) for high demand mobile applications after , and personal information management (e.g., calendar, scheduling). 68% of respondents now see Mobile BI as either critical or very important to their businesses versus 52% in Those indicating Mobile BI as unimportant declined from 11% to only 2%. We believe that we are in the midst of a fundamental paradigm shift towards Mobile (and Mobile BI), as significant as the Internet itself. 26 Design Best Practices QlikView UI design for mobile browsers Limited Screen Space; Visibility; Usability.

27 Limited Screen Space Build to native ipad resolution 980px width ipad screen size is 1024 x 768 pixels, but its native resolution is slightly smaller. The best resolution you can design QlikView application for is 980 x 590 with tab row, and 980 x 610 without tab row. Build to both devices, computer and ipad You can also build an application that is standard to a computer browser, 1024 x 768 Consider the navigation bar and tab row that would take up more height than regular AJAX client on a computer because of the larger icons. If your application is designed for 1024px width, then ipad will resize to fit to the screen to its width. Therefore, if zooming works with your design, you don t have to create a separate design for ipad. Consider portrait vs. landscape Depending on the content on the screen, portrait display may be better than landscape and vice versa. Container objects If many charts need to be in one sheet, utilize a container object to hold charts so that one object can be seen in a bigger size at a time.

28 Visibility Arial Fonts or other font faces supported in ipad browser E.G., Tahoma is not supported in the ipad browser, and appears as Times New Roman. Check whether the font face appears on an ipad the same as on a desktop browser. Font Sizes Minimum 11pt List Boxes: Making selections within an application will be operated by touch gestures. That means in a list box contains very small font it will be difficult to make selections for business users. Minimum of 11pt is strongly suggested. Graphs: For a legend in a graph, it s possible to use smaller font sizes (minimum 9pt suggested) because it is used as a reference and not directly to interact with. Tables: For tables, it s recommended to use a minimum 10pt for visibility, but if the is to be interacted very frequently, consider the same font size as list boxes.

29 Usability Current Selections Always place an object to display current selections (applied filters). To interact with the current selection box the minimum font size should be 11pt. Alternatively consider a selection sheet and place a large selection box on the sheet. Buttons for selection navigations To easily interact with the applied filters, utilize buttons with actions for clear, forward and back. These are three basic, and most used, navigations within a QlikView application. Avoid Multi-boxes Multi-boxes are not recommended to be used as interaction objects for touch devices. Instead consider using search objects. No mouse-over option For charts and graphs, make sure that what s displayed can be interpreted by the visualization and it should not require a mouse over event (as these are not possible on the ipad). Special Icons Use special icons on each object. This includes clear for simple navigation on a list box and menu (right click) icon for full list of options to interact with the field.
