Introduction to GFS ATPCO s Government Filing System

Introduction to GFS Mission After completing this module, participants will understand the role of the ATPCO Government Filing System (GFS) in distributing pricing decisions. Why is this module important? This module provides a brief introduction to GFS and the role it plays in the distribution of fare and text information. It will introduce the user to the life cycle of a filing. These are the steps that each pricing decision made by an organization will follow when moving from the initial pricing idea, or batch phase, to the CRS and on to the traveling public. Overview of GFS GFS is an automated filing system developed and maintained by the Airline Tariff Publishing Company. GFS packages and processes the following new, revised, or canceled fare information grouped by tariff and carrier: Fare records Add-on records Fare rule category text Fare class text Add-on fare class text (buckets) Footnote category text (for fares and add-ons) Add-on zone text General rules category text Booking code exception tables (BCET) What is filed in GFS? If applicable, the data is officially submitted to the appropriate governments for review and action. Processed fare and text information is available for public viewing, and carrier analysis and comparison. Data can also be printed and downloaded to a personal computer. 7

Introduction to GFS Life cycle of a filing Carrier makes a pricing decision Traveling Public (passengers) Carrier sends an instruction to ATPCO Carrier directly inputs change in ATPCO database ATPCO Retailers Travel Agents Internet Call Centers ATPCO analysts Database is Updated CRS/GDS Data is filed through GFS - Government Filing System Data is sent out to subscribers (subs pulls) Select information is presented to "live" governments The life cycle of a filing is the process in which pricing decisions reach the traveling public. These steps are illustrated in the above diagram. When an organization makes the decision to change fare and/or rule data, a batch must be created. The organization s desired changes are contained within the batch. At that point the organization can either file the batch containing the changes directly from their office, or send an instruction to ATPCO. All instructions to ATPCO must be in writing. ATPCO will accept instructions via , fax, or regular mail. ATPCO will make no change to an organization s database without a written instruction from the organization. After the instruction is received by ATPCO, the ATPCO analyst will update the instructing organization s database. The changes will be filed and distributed in the ATPCO Government Filing System (GFS). Similarly, organizations can file and distribute the changes in GFS directly from their offices. When data is filed in GFS it is sent to both governments and distributors (CRSs). Governments use GFS to approve or disapprove filings. The CRS in turn moves the new data to travel agencies and other subscribers who in turn supply the traveling public. 8

Introduction to GFS Details on GFS ATPCO s Government Filing System (GFS) is a source for monitoring and analyzing changes in fares and fare related data. The system provides data query tools to help identify and prioritize changes that are relevant for your area of concern as well as an automated search function that will identify which fare products in your tariff are affected by market changes. In depth analysis is supported through an integrated Market View of all public fares filed with ATPCO, private fares that you are authorized to view, and the option to include alternative fares sold in the Internet. The system supports text analysis (rules, footnotes, fare class, RBD, etc ) with tools to search the database for all filed text and to compare rules and footnotes. GFS also provides the option to subscribe to Fast Track Analysis, an advanced analysis tool that matches TCN ticket exchange data to filings at the market and fare class level. GFS was first introduced as an automated filing system to package and process new, revised, and cancelled fare and fare-related information for distribution to all major Global Distribution Systems (GDS), airlines, and government regulatory agencies for presentation, fare quotation, and approval purposes. GFS continues to provide this service and maintains a history of all fares filed since January 1, 1990 an all rules filed since February 9, New, modified, or canceled fare and text information is maintained in GFS within a filing advice. A filing advice is an electronic package that contains the processed data. It is identified by the day it was processed in GFS and the sequential alpha-alpha or alphanumeric associated with the order it was processed: 11OCT04 - A01 The day the information was filed in GFS The alpha-alpha or alphanumeric associated with the filing The filing advice contains the information for a specific carrier, global, and paper tariff. Previous versions of revised fare and text information also are contained within the filing advice. The fare and text information in the filing advice is separated and presented to the appropriate governments. If a government uses GFS to officially action filings with ATPCO, the data is presented for the government s review. These active governments can approve, acknowledge, disapprove, or suspend fare and text information in a filing advice presented in GFS. 9

Introduction to GFS Once a filing has been processed at ATPCO, the fare and text information within the filing advice are instantly available for viewing by governments, carriers, CRSs, other remote subscribers to GFS, and ATPCO. Fare and text information can be viewed from other GFS options in addition to the filing advice. Fares can be viewed by market (Historical Data and Historical Special). Text can be viewed from a fare (Historical Data), in a summary of text processed on a specific day (Filed Text Summary), and the text in its entirety (Text Menu). 10

Introduction to GFS Summary GFS is an automated filing system developed and maintained by the Airline Tariff Publishing Company. GFS packages and processes the following new, revised, or canceled fare information grouped by tariff and carrier: Once a filing has been processed in ATPCO s GFS system, the fare and text information within the filing advice are instantly available for viewing by governments, carriers, CRSs, other remote subscribers to GFS, and ATPCO. When data is filed in GFS it is sent to both governments and distributors (CRSs). Governments use GFS to approve or disapprove filings. The CRS in turn moves the new data to travel agencies and other subscribers who in turn supply the traveling public. 12

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Filing Advice Status

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Mission After completing this module, participants will be able to use GFS Filing Advice Status Display screen to effectively monitor their own filings and to view changes in the marketplace. Why is this module important? The ATPCO Government Filing System (GFS) is the application used by organizations to monitor and distribute fare information. GFS allows pricing professionals to easily and efficiently monitor their own filings and to view changes in the marketplace. It also allows for monitoring of the carrier s own private filings. It is crucial for viewing pricing initiatives that have been implemented by other carriers. 15

Monitoring Filings Using GFS GFS Filing Advice Status Display screen Step 1. Open the ATPCO Web page at Step 2. Click the link. Step 3. Step 4. Sign in with your user ID and password. On the Customer Center Home Page, place your cursor over the FareManager link and choose FareManager (non SSL) or FareManager (SSL) link. Step 5. Enter your user ID and password. Click. Step 6. Click in the Data Collection and Data Distribution group box. Note: For further information about accessing FareManager applications, please see FareManager 100 documentation. The next screen that appears is the Government Filing System Home page, as shown in Figure 1. Links in the Monitoring Group Box allow users to search and view information that has been filed in GFS. The buttons are short cuts to search for specific types of filings, text, and subscriptions summaries. When used in combination with the Date, Area, Carrier, and/or Tariff fields, large lists of filings and other data may be filtered to only that information which is relevant to you. 16

Monitoring Filings Using GFS You can narrow your search by entering filter criteria on the GFS home page. Before you click filings., you can use the Date, Area, Carrier, and/or Tariff fields to filter the list of Click the button in the Filings section of the screen Figure 1 ATPCO Government Filing System The system will search for filings based on the information you enter in the Monitoring section of the page. After entering all search criteria, click the button in the Filings section for a list of filings. The default list shows all public filings that have completed GFS processing since midnight of the current date. Note: The Public/Private drop-down list to the right of the Toolbar may be used to choose between Public and Private filings (you may view only your own private data). 17

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Viewing filings There are a number of different methods to search for GFS filings. You may ask the system to show you all filings for a specific time period or have it show you only certain types of filings. What does that mean? Let s look at a demonstration. In Figure 2, we have information in one field the Date field. A date is selected. Use the calendar button to choose a different date. Figure 2 Date field highlighted on ATPCO Government Filing System screen Once is selected in the Filings box, the result will be a list of all public filings made between 5 January 2005 and today, regardless of the type of information contained in each filing. 18

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Filtering methods The search for certain types of GFS filings may be filtered in these ways: Filter Date Number Time Government Status Action Date Area Carrier Tariff Effective Date Text Type Mark City/Country Bi-directional Market Table Sort Description You will see a list of all public filings from the specified date until today. If you know of a specific Electronic Filing Advice Number (EFA), you can access it directly. When time is entered, the system will return a list of all filings completed since that time. Entering a two-letter country code will show a list of filings that have applicability to that government or country. Certain governments may take actions on filings directly through GFS. The status option allows a user to see those filings that have a government action pending, actioned, filed, not approved, or all of the above. You may request to see a list of filings that have received a government action from a specific date. Filings may be listed by their two-letter global area code. Filings may be listed by the carrier code. Filings may be listed by their tariff. Filings may be listed by effective date. One of the most useful tools, text type allows a user to search for filings that contain specific components: add-on fare class, booking code application, fare class, general rule, footnote, fare rule, zones, or all of the above (default). Filings may be listed by the marking option that appears to the left of each filing. Marking option V represents Viewed, A represents Actioned, and Blank represents Un-marked. This will show filings that have fare or add-on transactions for specific markets. For international markets, the first field represents From and the second field represents To. This will allow the user to search for filings containing information between city/country pairs for international markets. This will allow the user to search for multiple market, carrier, and government combinations at one time. Used in conjunction with Market tables, the user can sort the list of filings retrieved from a Market Table by Top Markets or Filtered Fares. 19

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Filing Advice Status search fields Search by Date Place your cursor in the Date field and type your search date. Click the button. Type the beginning date of filings that you wish to view and click the button. Figure 3 Search by Date This resulting list will be all public filings made between 09 February 2005 and today (the date of access). 20

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Work Unit Identification 1. Place your cursor in the Work unit fields and then type work unit identification. Work units are identified by a combination of organization code, creation date, and number. For example, the fifth work unit that was created by Carrier 01 on 20 April 2015 is most accurately described as 01-20APR15-5. Note: In the second field (the date field) you may click the calendar icon to open a lookup on which you search for and then select a date for use. Work Unit IDs are assigned programmatically and cannot be changed. The number following the date increases by one each time a user at your organization creates a new work unit (in other words, 01-20APR15-5 was not the fifth work unit created by an individual on 20 April. Rather, it is the fifth of all work units created by Carrier 01 users on 20 April). 2. Type or select a date in the Filing Advice Date field. This date should match the date on which the filing completed. Normally this will be the same as the work unit s creation date. However, it might be different if the work unit was not released on its creation date (for example, it may have been scheduled for a future release date). Note: If you do not type a date in the Filing Advice Date field, today s date will populate the field as a default. 3. Click the button in the right corner of the Filter Criteria section. Figure 4 Search by Filing Advice Number This entry will result in the specified filing being displayed. Filings are named by their Electronic Filing Advice number (EFA). In this example the EFA is 14APR16-ADV. When you click the list. button, filing 14APR16-ADV will be at the top of the resulting 21

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Filing Advice Number Place your cursor in the Date field and type the filing date. In the Filing Advice Number field, type the alpha-alpha or alphanumeric of the filing for which you are searching. Click the button in the right corner of the Filter Criteria section. Type the filing date and the alpha-alpha or alphanumeric of the filing for which you are searching. Click the button. Figure 5 Search by Filing Advice Number This entry will result in the specified filing being displayed. Filings are named by their Electronic Filing Advice number (EFA). In this example the EFA is 22APR16-AAG. When you click the list. button, filing 22APR16-AAG will be at the top of the resulting 22

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Time Place your cursor in the Time field and type your search time. Click the button. Enter a time and click the button Figure 6 Search by Time This entry will result in a list of filings completed at 6:00 AM (0600) and forward. This is the time that the filing completed the GFS filing process. This is not the time the filing was distributed to subscribers. 23

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Government Place your cursor in the Government field and type your search criteria. Click the button. Type a two-letter country code in this field and click the button. Figure 7 Search by Government This entry will result in a list of filings from April 22 and later that contain data that is applicable to or that has been presented to the government of Switzerland (CH). 24

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Status The Status field is used in conjunction with the Government field. You may limit your search by using the drop-down menu in the status field in Figure 8. Blank Actioned Filed Pending Not Approved Resulting list will be all filings regardless of government action. Resulting list will be filings that have been actioned (approved or disapproved) by the government specified in the Government field. Resulting list will be filings that have been presented to the government specified in the Government field. List will contain both actioned and non-actioned filings. Resulting list will be filings that have been presented and filed with the government specified in the Government field but have not been actioned by that government. Resulting list will be filings that have been actioned by the government specified in the Government field except those that have been approved (A) or acknowledged (K). The Status field is used in conjunction with the Government field Figure 8 Search by Status 25

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Action Date The Action Date field is used in conjunction with the Government and Status fields. When an action date is specified in conjunction with the Government and Status fields, the system will show a list of filings that have been actioned by the government on the date specified. An example is shown below in Figure 9. Action Date field is used in conjunction with the Government and Status fields. Figure 9 Search by Action Date This is a useful tool because you can track the status of government actions in a very methodical way. For example, suppose you file fares with the Canadian government and you want to view a list of filings that were actioned by the Canadian government on 5 January. If you wanted this list to contain all filings that were actioned by the Canadian government on April 22 regardless of filing date, you would remove the date from the Filing Advice Date field. The resulting list will be filings that have been processed in GFS on various dates, but all will have been actioned by the Canadian government on April

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Area Place your cursor in the Area field and type a two-letter area, or global code. Some common areas: AT = Atlantic PA = Pacific US = Domestic US CT = Circle Trip ZZ = Any Global WH = Western Hemisphere EH = Eastern Hemisphere TB = Transborder US/CA RW = Round-the-World Type an Area code and click the button Figure 10 Search by Area In Figure 10, we have selected to see filings from April 22 and later that pertain only to the Atlantic (AT) global area. 27

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Carrier Place your cursor in the Carrier field and type your search criteria. Click the You can enter a specific carrier (airline) to see a list of its public filings. button. Type a carrier code in the Carrier field and click the button Figure 11 Search by Carrier The resulting list will be all public filings for Lufthansa from April 22 and forward. 28

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Tariff Place your cursor in the Tariff field and type your search criteria. Click the You can search for filings by fare, rules, or paper tariff. button. Type your search criteria in the Tariff field and click the button Figure 12 Search by Tariff Figure 12 shows a list of filings from 22 April and later that contain information pertaining to the fares tariff EUROP. 29

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Effective Date Place your cursor in the Effective Date field and type your search date. Click the button. You may list filings that contain information (transactions) that are effective on a specified date. Type your effective date or choose a date by clicking the Calendar button Figure 13 Search by Effective Date Figure 13 shows a list of filings from April 18 until today that contains transactions with an effective date of April

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by Text Type Filings may be narrowed down to show only those that contain at least one batch of a specified text type. You may wish to see filings that have the following type of text transactions: Add-on fare class (buckets) Booking code application (RBD) Fare class General rule Footnote Fare rule Zone (add-ons) Use the drop-down menu to select a list of filings that contain a specified text type. Click the button. Figure 14 Search by Text Type By searching for filings that contain one type of text you are not necessarily excluding filings that contain other text types. In Figure 14, we have indicated fare rule as the desired text type. The resulting list will have filings that contain transactions that, at the very least, contain fare rule data. The filing could also contain any or all of the other text types and some fare or add-on transactions as well. 31

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Search by City/Country Use of the City or Country fields will return filings that contain fare or add-ons transactions for the specified markets. The filings may also contain other types of transactions. However, they will, at the very least, contain fares or add-ons for the selected markets. Any city or country code or combination of codes is accepted here. The resulting list of filings will have fare or add-ons related to the values in the field. Entries are considered directional, with the first field being the From field and the second being the To field. Click the box next to the Bidirectional field to indicate that you want to search for fares/add-ons between the points listed in the City/Country fields. View filings for a specific city or country pair Figure 15 Search by City/Country and Bidirectional This will show a list of filings from April 18 until today that contains fare or add-on records from Washington to London. 32

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Viewing filings with multiple specifications As indicated earlier, less information entered on the Filing Advice Status screen will result in more filings returned. In contrast, more information entered will result in fewer filings returned. In Figure 16, we specified only a date. Type your effective date or choose a date by clicking the calendar button Figure 16 Search by Filing Advice Date The result will be a list of all public filings from that day forward regardless of time filed, applicable governments, carrier, area, tariff, or other criteria. 33

Monitoring Filings Using GFS However, in the next example we have specified more than just the date. We have also specified a government, a carrier, and a tariff. Figure 17 Search by date, government, carrier, tariff The result will be a list of all public filings from that day forward, but only for carrier TS filings that are applicable to the DE government in tariff TAFP. Note: Although we did not specify a global area, the system will only return filings associated with AT (Atlantic) since it is the designated global area for the tariff. We entered more information than in the first example, but the result is fewer filings. In other words, we filtered out unnecessary filings. 34

Monitoring Filings Using GFS Summary The ATPCO Government Filing System (GFS) is the program used by organizations to distribute fare information to wholesalers for further distribution and to certain governments for presentation and approval purposes. GFS Filing Advice Status allows pricing professionals to Monitor their own filings View changes in the marketplace Monitor their own private filings View pricing initiatives that have been implemented by other carriers 35

Viewing Filings in GFS Mission After completing this module, participants will be able to view filings in GFS. Participants will be able to identify all components of a GFS filing. Why is this module important? It is important that the pricing analyst have the ability to determine what information is contained in the GFS filing. After the components of the filing have been determined, it is critical for the analyst to be able to recognize change codes that are contained within the Fare Record Display. A solid understanding of the information contained within filings, including the information contained in the Fare Record Display, will help an organization make a quick decision about any change in the marketplace. 39

Filing Advice Status Display will show the filings for the date selected Figure 19 Filing Advice Status Display screen In the Filing Advice Status Display screen there is a list of filings. The first filing is 17DEC05-AAF. From the Filing Advice Status Display screen we can gather information regarding this filing such as the filing carrier, the time the filing was completed, the applicable area, the effective date. The Filing Advice Status Display screen will also show you what components are contained within the filing. A filing will contain at least one of the following components: Fares Fare Class Add-ons General Rule Fare Rule RBD Application (BCETS) Footnote Zone 41

Viewing Filings in GFS An underlined number will appear in the column of the component contained in that filing. This number is an exact count of that component. The components that are filed in filing 17DEC05-AAF are fares and fare rule. Click the underlined number to see the changes made on any of the components of this filing. For example, if you want to see what type of changes the carrier made to the 14 fares in this filing, click the underlined number. Click here to see the 14 fares contained in this filing Figure 20 Click any underlined text on the screen on the Filing Advice Status Display Note: Repeat the same procedure to see the other components of this filing. 42

This range will reflect either the percent increase or decrease filed for changed fares, or plus or minus 10% of the fare amount for new or canceled fares. For example, if a fare in a filing represents an increase of 12%, the Equal Fare display will show all fares between +12% and -12% of the original level. If a fare in a filing is a new fare, the fares displayed will be within +/- 10% of the filed amount. Figure 24 Equal Fare Display 45

Viewing Filings in GFS Fare Action Codes within a filing We can also determine the type of change that was made to the fare when it was filed in GFS. Figure 27 is displaying the filing advice 30May05-AAH, and the letter C appears in the CHG (Change) field below the fare. Figure 27 Fare Action Codes within a Filing In Figure 27, the C in the change field appears in this case due to the footnote being removed from a fare. A number of different codes could be displayed depending on the type of change that was made. Note: Multiple action codes can be displayed at one time. The following is a list of the various change codes displayed by GFS: N New I Increase R Reduction C Change (to currency, routing, or footnote) X Canceled E Effective date change (this code will always appear in conjunction with another code) If the fare records are new there will be only one line of history. There is an option to filter fares within a filing based on their change type. On the Options tab, use the Change Type Filter by selecting one of the seven distinct change types from the drop down menu and clicking to view only those records. 47

Viewing Filings in GFS Text Components The seven types of text components are Add-on Fare Class, RBD Application, Fare Class, General Rule, Footnote, Fare Rule, and Zone. The text display for each component is different from the record display of the fares component. However, navigating and interpreting the display of a text component is relatively similar among all the text components. In this module, only the Footnote component will be discussed in detail. Footnote Component Figure 28 represents the Filing Advice Status Display screen for filings complete on 24OCT07 that contain at the very least a footnote component. The first filing that appears on the list is for carrier QF and the filing contains fares and footnotes. The number 9 in the footnote column indicates that nine footnote characters were updated in the filing. Click the underlined number to view the details of the component. Figure 28 The next screen that appears is the Filing Advice Footnote Text Display as shown in Figure 29. The row under the yellow message bar references the Filing Advice, Carrier, Tariff, and Footnote character for the component. If multiple footnotes exist in the component, the system will order them in the same manner as Data List tab in the footnote system. The screen is divided into two halves. The top half represents the proposed changes to the footnote(s) included in the filing. The text will display one footnote at a time. The bottom half represents the previous version of the data, before the update was made in the filing. 48

Government and Carrier Inclusive Tables GFS Filing Advice Status

Government and Carrier Inclusive Tables Mission After completing this module, participants will be able to create government and carrier inclusive tables in the Filing Advice Status screen in GFS. Why is this module important? Carrier and government inclusive tables are another way to make searching for specific information in GFS easier and more time-efficient. Inclusive tables allow the user to search for a broader range of filings in a smaller amount of time. Creating carrier and government inclusive tables is the first step toward the more advanced parameter sets. Both of these options give the user more control over what data will be available in a list of filings. 83

Government and Carrier Inclusive Tables What is the purpose of Government/Carrier Inclusive Tables? The purpose of government/carrier inclusive tables is to gather filings based on a group of search criteria. When a user is searching for a list of filings that contain marketplace changes, an inclusive table used within the GFS Filing Advice Status screen can be a useful and timesaving tool. The benefit of using government/carrier inclusive tables in the GFS Filing Advice Status option is that field values are retained. Once the inclusive table has been created, it can be used in conjunction with various search criteria. When a user enters the inclusive set number in the Government or Carrier fields, the values are accepted. Why are Government/Carrier Inclusive Tables important to users? In today s marketplace, remaining competitive has become an essential element in an organization s ability to remain profitable. Inclusive tables assist customers in remaining competitive by providing a collection of filings that contain marketplace changes. This allows the customer to react instantly and effectively. 84

Government and Carrier Inclusive Tables Creating Government Inclusive Tables Whenever a user is searching for filings in the GFS Filing Advice Status Display, the system will only allow one entry in the Government field. 129 Live Governments Governments That Receive Data

Live Governments Mission After completing this module, the participants will be able to identify all live governments that receive data from the ATPCO Government Filing System (GFS). Participants will be able to identify the action taken by live governments against specific filings. Why is this module important? Governments use GFS to view and action data filed by carriers. There are a number of set codes that governments use to action data within the Government Filing System. It is essential that the pricing analyst recognize each code and its meaning. If a government denies a filing for any reason, the denied material must be removed and re-filed. This is a loss of time and possible revenue for a carrier. A good knowledge of government action codes will allow a quick reaction to any problems that could be encountered when filing data with a government. 129

From the Functions menu move your cursor to the selection and then select. Viewing Data Presented to a Government In a list of filings, two-letter government codes will appear to the right of the effective date fields. These codes indicate to which governments the filing is applicable. Live means that a government has elected to receive filings through GFS in addition to or instead of on paper. Official means that governments will take action upon filings through GFS. Certain live governments are on test status, which means that they are testing the GFS system but do not action filings electronically at this time. 143 Private Remarks Communicating to Governments Via a Filing Advice

Private Remarks Mission After completing this module, participants will be able to list all private remarks when viewing GFS filings for comments from ATPCO or governments. Participants will be able to send private remarks in a filing. Why is this module important? This module teaches participants the use of private remarks to display or send messages sent to or from governments, carriers, or ATPCO analysts associated with electronic filings. 143

Private Remarks What is the purpose of private remarks? Private Remarks are a method of communicating to a government via a filing advice. The remarks can be made to or from active governments that the filing advice is presented to, the carrier who owns the data in the filing advice, and ATPCO. Why are private remarks important? The Private Remarks Status List allows you to view all private remarks that were sent to or from your organization. This list contains only the filings that contain private remarks. For every private remark contained within a filing advice, the filing is listed separately, displaying to whom each private remark is directed and who sent it. 144

Private Remarks How to view the Private Remark Status List The Private Remarks Status List displays the private remarks by time, date, area, and carrier. 157 Market Tables Filing Advice Status

Market Tables Mission After completing this module, participants will be able to create and use Market Tables in the Filing Advice Status and Inclusive Tables to monitor activity within GFS or to search for any significant information when filtering filings on a daily basis. Why is this module important? This module explains how to use the Filing Advice Status Market Table feature. It will allow participants to minimize time spent searching for specific filing advices. With this knowledge, participants will be able to react quickly to changes in the marketplace. 157

Market Tables What s the purpose of Filing Advice Status Market Tables? Market Tables will filter the list of filings in the GFS Filing Advice Status screen. The purpose of the Filing Advice Status Market Tables feature is to gather filings containing specific filing information. With this feature, users can specify many elements for which they are searching, eliminating the need to sort through irrelevant filings. Market tables provide additional filtering options that separate fares into two levels of importance: 1. Filtered fares: The first layer of filtering. The filtered section includes all markets that have been designated within the market table but have not been tagged as a top market. 2. Fares Top Markets: An additional layer of filtering that includes all markets that have been designated in the Market Table as a top market. The benefit of using the Filing Advice Status Market Tables is that the same field values are retained. When a user enters the market table number in the Market Table field in the Filing Advice Select screen, the parameter values are accepted. Why are Market Tables important? In today s marketplace, remaining competitive has become an essential element in a carrier s ability to remain profitable. Market tables help a carrier remain competitive by providing a collection of filings that contain marketplace changes. This allows the carrier to react instantly and effectively. Other users such as governments and vendors can also use market tables to minimize time spent searching for information. 158

Market Tables Creating a Market Table We must first create the associated inclusive tables to include in the market tables for filtering and viewing only specific. Creating Inclusive Tables Inclusive Tables can be accessed from the GFS Main Menu. To begin, click on the link. Click the link on the GFS Home Page. Figure 119 GFS Home Page For this example, we are going to filter filings that apply between various U.S. cities and select European countries and cities for a group of carriers. The inclusive tables that may be created for use with a Filing Advice Status Parameter Set are the following: City Country Carrier City/Country 159

Click to retrieve the list of filings. The system will search for the first filing that has fares matching the data specified in your Parameter Set. A filing must contain one or more of the markets that you selected and the filing must belong to one of the carriers listed in your inclusive table: It may take several minutes for the system to build your Market Table. If you try to use or display the Market Table during this process, you may receive messages asking you to try again. Simply wait a few minutes and try again later. Parameter Set number 279 located only one filing that matches the criteria as shown in Figure 137. The EFA is 17JAN06-BGO, which is a Delta filing for the Atlantic area. 171

Market Tables Figure 137 Filing Advice Status Display screen Fares Top Markets If Top Markets are indicated in the Market Table then those fares will be separated from all other fares in the filing on the Filing Advice Status Display screen. All other fares in the filing are considered Filtered Fares. In Figure 137, parameter set +279 retrieved one filing with 15 filtered fares. There is a zero count in the Fares Top Markets column indicating that the filing does not contain any fares between the designated top markets (between NYC and LON). Use the Top Markets feature to search for fares in markets that are most important to you. If you indicate top markets then you also have the ability to filter the list of filings on the Filing Advice Status Display screen by top fares or filtered fares. 228

Historical Fares Online Mission After completing this module, participants will be able to view historical fare and text information stored in the Government Filing System. Why is this module important? The Historical Data option of the Government Filing System allows the user to select and view historical fare and add-on (arbitrary) records from 1990 to the present. The pricing professional can perform market analysis of fares in a given market, manually compare amounts charged in selected markets on a specific date, and analyze historical fares or text (rules) provisions. The Historical Fares Online option also allows users to view the text (rules) of a historical fare and the GFS filing advice in which a fare was submitted. What is the purpose of Historical Fares Online? The Historical Fares Online option from the GFS main menu provides the ability to view fares from the historical file by market and date. The historical file contains fares and addons that date back to January The fares data may be used to view the other supporting data that was attached to that fare record on that specific date. So, rule, footnote, and other supporting data attached to that actual fare record may be viewed for content. Note that filing advices must be at least 1 day old before the Historical Fares Online option has access to them. 227

Historical Fares Online How to Access GFS Historical Fares Online Figure 196 The system will display the Historical and Market View Select screen. This screen is used to narrow, or filter, search criteria for each fare that you wish to view. The system will search for fares based on the information you enter on this screen. This screen requires you to select a market and a Fare Type Display, which are listed at the top of the screen. Optional search criteria fields are listed on the bottom of the screen and can be used to further refine your search. Select a market and Fare Type to search for historical data. These fields are optional. They will help you narrow your search. Figure

To view historical data, a market and the fare type display must be selected. Select a market in the two market fields Select one of the four possible Fare Type Displays Figure 198 The order of the city pair depends on the Fare Type Display chosen: For local fares (US/CA domestic fares), type the cities in alphabetical order according to the city code. For directional international fares, type the origin in the first field and the destination in the second. For arbitraries (add-ons), type the headline city (gateway) in the first field and the sideline city in the second field. For bi-directional international fares, type the origin and the destination in any order. 229

The currency field is used only in conjunction with US/CA Domestic Local Fares fare type display. The two available currencies are USD and CAD. The Latest Effective Date field can be used only when a carrier is entered in the Carrier field. Fare records with the latest effective date will be highlighted. 245 Historical Fares Online Summary Knowledge of the Historical Fares Online option of GFS allows pricing professionals to select and view historical fare and arbitrary (add-on) records back to This module has demonstrated how a market analysis can be manually performed for fares in a given market. From the displayed information, users may obtain text information from a fare, even with a past effective date. The Historical Fares Online option may also be used to perform fare histories for specific fare classes. This is a very useful tool in that it provides the ability to view every change that has occurred to a fare since its inception. 243

Historical Fares Request Report

Historical Fares Request Report Mission After completing this module, participants will be able to code historical special calculate tables using any combination of options. Participants will be able to view extracted data in all viewing modes and upload extracted data to a batch. Why is this module important? Participants will learn to advise how to code historical special tables and view the extracted data. It will allow users to add, restore, and reinstate fares from the historical database. Submitting and retrieving extracted data will provide the users with the options of viewing, uploading, or downloading the extracted data for analysis. 247

Historical Fares Request Report What is the purpose of historical reports? You can create batches using Historical Fares Request Report The Historical Fares Request Report (historical special) option from the GFS main menu provides you with greater capabilities for extracting historical fares and add-ons from the Historical Data file. The historical file contains fares and add-ons that date back to January Data that has been extracted using the Historical Special can be viewed online, printed and downloaded to your own computer. The extracted data may be used to create transactions for use in US/CA Domestic, International, or Add-on fares batches. Note that filing advices must be at least 1 day old before the historical special table can access them. The table that is created to extract data from the historical fare database is called Parameter Set. Why are historical reports important? The advantage to using the Historical Fares Request Report is that more selection criteria are available for extracting data. Your extract jobs will be submitted in a batch mode that will not slow your computer s speed. Depending on the selection criteria, results may be processed immediately or if the selection criteria are very broad, the job may be processed overnight. Charges will apply for Historical Fares Request Report jobs that run overnight. You may see the extracted data for overnight jobs the following day. 248

Historical Fares Request Report Create and maintain Historical Fares Request Report To create a Historical Special, click the Main Menu. link in the GFS Click here to access the Historical Fares Request Report Figure 213 GFS Home Page The next screen that appears is the Parameter Set Listing screen as shown in Figure 213. This screen displays all parameter sets of an organization that are associated with your user identification. New parameter sets can be created. Existing sets may also be viewed, modified, printed, or deleted. The list includes information about a parameter set s number, type, comments associated with the parameter set, the latest date on which it was updated, the last date on which it was submitted to extract data, and the user identification of the last person who updated/modified the parameter set or submitted an extract request. 249

Historical Fares Request Report The Parameter Set number is auto-generated. Be sure to write this number down! Figure 216 Parameter Set Each screen within the parameter set is a separate parameter. There can be multiple parameters within a set, and the data that identifies the set applies to all parameters within the set. A parameter set can be created and saved without any parameters so that it can be updated at a later time. Inclusive tables may be created and entered in the following fields: Loc1 Fare Class Arb Zone Loc2 CXR Type the plus sign (+) and the three-digit number of the inclusive table in the Location 1 and 2 fields to signify that the entry is an inclusive table. For example, a city inclusive table XYY 123 would be typed in the Loc1 or Loc2 fields as For fares between the Loc1 and Loc2 entries, check the Bi-directional field. Otherwise, matches will only be found in the direction that Loc1 and Loc2 are coded. If a parameter is coded with only one locale, or no locales, then the extract program assumes bidirectionality. 251

Historical Fares Request Report If only one locale is coded then an area, a carrier, and at least one date must be coded in any of these fields: In Effect On Effective Date Discontinue Date Date Range In this example, we are going to code a historical special to extract all British Airways (BA) fares from London, Frankfurt, Madrid, and Stockholm to NYC/WAS. The fares will be for tariff TAFP. We will search for fares that were in effect on 11 October The parameter set will be coded as follows: Tariff = TAFP Carrier = BA In Effect On = 11OCT98 The next step is to create city inclusive tables. Remember we are searching for fares from London, Frankfurt, Madrid, and Stockholm to NYC/WAS. In this example, we will code two city inclusive tables. Click the button to create the Inclusive Tables. Figure 217 Parameter Set Click the button next to the Location 1 field. The next screen that appears is the Inclusive Table Listing screen Location 1.
