1 Newspaper Project OBJECTIVE: Create a Front Page Newspaper Story from a past, present or fictitious event using Google Docs. REQUIREMENTS: Points 1) News Paper Name; Web URL, Serving, Date, Price 10 2) Borders and Shading 5 3) Headline Impact, All Caps, Black 5 4) 2 or 3 Columns: Justified 10 5) Story Words 20 6) Auto Shape 5 7) 3 Pictures 15 8) Inside Edition Stories Table 10 9) 1 Page Length: No blank spots 5 10) Spell and Grammar Checked 15 GRADING: 100 Points for meeting the requirements IDEAS Titanic Sinks World War II Ends Stock Market Crashes Blazers win NBA Championship Bigfoot Found Frogs Attack Skate Park Aliens Found in White House
2 Directions Log in to your Google account Click Apps then Drive Image 1 Click Create then Document
3 2 Change Margins Click File Page Set Up Select Portrait orientation Change Margins to 0.2" for Top, Bottom, Left and Right 3 Add table for Newspaper Name Click Insert Table select 1 x 1 table Customize the Background color, Border Color, Border width and Border dash for the table. 4 5 Add Newspaper Name Click inside the Table and Type the name of your Newspaper. Select the Font and Color you want to use. Increase the Font Size so that the Newspaper name fill's an entire line. Add Subtitle Put your cursor one line below your Newspaper Name. Highlight the empty text area and press this button to clear the formatting
4 6 Type Web Page Address, Who gets your Newspaper (Example: "Serving the Mid-Valley Daily"), Date of the story, Price. Put a tab between each element. (Web URL, Serving, Date, Price) Change Font so it will fit on one line. Select the Font Type and Color of your choice. Insert Horizontal line Place cursor on line 3 below your subtitle Select Insert Horizontal line 7 Add Headline Type the Headline on the next line down. Use Impact Font all Caps. Make the Font Size as large as possible to fit on one line. 8 Add Table to simulate columns Place cursor under headline click Table insert table and a 2 x 1 table Now change table properties to
5 9 Type Story Click inside the left cell of the table. Type your story it must be words in length. To count your words highlight your story and click Tools Word count. After you know the total word count split the story in two equal parts putting the first half of the story in the left column and the last part in the right column. 10 Highlight your story and change the alignment to Justify. Spell Check your story. Proofread your story. Insert Pictures into Story You will need to find 4 pictures from the Internet. Try to find pictures that related to your story and make it seem believable. When you find a picture right click and select Copy picture. Then place cursor
6 where you want the picture located and paste. Change the margin of each picture to 1/16th of an inch and select Wrap text. Repeat this process for your second, third and fourth pictures. 11Remove Table Border If you don't like the lines around the columns you can remove them by clicking inside your table then go to the pull down menu Table then Table properties. Select 0 pt for the table border. 12Add Inside Edition Table Place your cursor under you story table. Click Table Insert Table select a 2X5 Table. 13 Re-size your Table Place your Cursor on the Middle vertical line of your Table. Drag the middle vertical Line to the left
7 to the 2.5" mark. Highlight the whole table and press the clear formatting button. 14Type in Table Type the following into your Table. Inside Edition Sports Weather World Local Type in a brief story that happened in each section for the day. 15Colorize Table Change the colors of the Table Cells. Highlight your Table. Select Table then Table properties. Select the border Color and border size you want. Change the Cell Background color. Change your table padding to 0" 16Change Font Size in Table Highlight the text and change the font size, color and type to your choice. Don't make your font size to large.
8 17Make Room for Table Your Newspaper must all fit on one page so now you need to readjust font sizes in your table and or in your story to make everything fit nicely in one page. 18Share with Teacher Click the Share button and type in your teachers name to turn this in to be graded. 19 Print Click File then Print.
