1 Start a New Microsoft Word file, save it in your OneDrive as: #_lastname_resume.docx. Begin by typing the information below: Select all five lines, go to the Home Tab > Paragraph > Change the Alignment to Center. Select just the line with your name, go to the Home Tab > Change the Font to Impact, Size 16pt. Select the four lines after your name, go to the Home Tab > Paragraph > Paragraph Dialog box and change the After Spacing to 0pt. Hit Enter once at the end of the address and type the following: Select the line that reads, Objective and go to the Home Tab > Styles and apply Heading 1 to it. Then, in the same area, open the Styles Dialog box and modify Style 1 so that the font is Impact, font size is 14 pt, and Italic. Now that style is modified so that it will look the same when we apply it to other headings on the resume. With the line, Objective still selected, go to the Home Tab > Paragraph > Add a Bottom Border so that it s underlined all the way across the page. Go back to the Border box and choose Borders and Shading. Change the Color to Blue, Accent 1, Darker 25% and change the Width to You might need to apply the Bottom Border again if you don t see a change made. Hit Enter once after the sentence, To apply my organizational and type the following:

2 the formatting of this line. Now click on the word, Education. This will apply both the Heading 1 Style and the blue underline that Objective has. You will need your Rulers on, so go to the View Tab > Check the box next to Show Ruler. Select all of the lines after the line that reads, Education. Click on the 2.25 mark on the Top Ruler to set a Left Tab Stop. It looks like an L. Put your cursor in front of University of Houston, and hit the Tab Key. It should align the text with your new tab stop. Repeat with the next line. Select the lines, Computer Skills through Internet Communications. Go to Home Tab > Paragraph > Convert it to a Bulleted List. Keep these lines selected, and hit the Tab Key until the bullets align below the Tab Stop. Select the two lines, University of Houston, and BA in Business Administration. Go to the Home Tab > Paragraph > Open the Paragraph Dialog Box and change the Spacing After to 0 pt. This will take out the extra space there. Put your cursor in front of Lamar Consolidated High School, and hit the Tab key. Repeat with the line underneath it. Select those two lines and go to the Home Tab > Paragraph > Open the Paragraph Dialog Box and change the Spacing After to 0 pt. Hit Enter once at the end of the word Endorsement, then type:

3 the formatting of this line. Now click on the words, Work Experience. This will apply both the Heading 1 Style and the blue underline that the other headings have. Select all of the text after the heading, Work Experience. Set the Left Tab Stop at the 2.25 mark on the Top Ruler again. Put your cursor in front of Branson s Bookkeeping and hit Tab. Repeat with the next two lines. Select the last three lines and go to Home Tab > Paragraph > Convert it to a Bulleted List. Keep these lines selected, and hit the Tab Key until the bullets align below the Tab Stop. Select the top 3 lines under Work Experience, and go to the Home Tab > Paragraph > Open the Paragraph Dialog Box and change the Spacing After to 0 pt. Hit Enter twice at the end of the bulleted list and type: Select all of this new text. Set the Left Tab Stop at the 2.25 mark on the Top Ruler again. Place your cursor before Camp Hill Country and hit the Tab key. Repeat with the next two lines. Select the last three lines and go to Home Tab > Paragraph > Convert it to a Bulleted List. Keep these lines selected, and hit the Tab Key until the bullets align below the Tab Stop. Select the top 3 lines of this section and go to the Home Tab > Paragraph > Open the Paragraph Dialog Box and change the Spacing After to 0 pt. Hit Enter twice at the end of this bulleted list and type:

4 the formatting of this line. Now click on the words, Volunteer Experience. This will apply both the Heading 1 Style and the blue underline that the other headings have. Select all of this new text. Set the Left Tab Stop at the 2.25 mark on the Top Ruler again. Put your cursor in front of University of Houston and hit the Tab key. Repeat with the line below it. Put your cursor in front of Technology Student Association and hit the Tab key. Select the 3 lines under Volunteer Experience, and go to the Home Tab > Paragraph > Open the Paragraph Dialog Box and change the Spacing After to 0 pt. There will be one stray line of text on the second page. Go to the bottom of the first page, find the ruler on the left side. Where the white meets gray shows where the current margin is. Drag the gray down just enough to get everything onto one page. Do a spell check. Compare your document to the example below. Save your file as #_lastname_resume.docx. Then, save your file as #_lastname_resume.pdf. Once it opens in Adobe Acrobat, then do a File > Save as and change the format to PNG to go on your Canvas eportfolio. Print the resume to N108 once you have ensured accuracy.
