3 About: Ricky Black Ricky Black Draft Product Manager Ricky is product manager of the Solid Edge Draft and PMI software. He has over 30 years of experience in manufacturing and mechanical CAD. He has worked as a machinist and CNC programmer on flight hardware in the aerospace industry. He has also worked as a CNC programmer in mold design. He worked as an instructor and applications engineer for Intergraph s NC software. With his expertise in manufacturing he later moved into software development for the same NC software. Ricky was a member of the Solid Edge Draft software development team since the beginning of Solid Edge. He accepted the roll of the Solid Edge Draft Product Manager in the spring of Page 3

4 What you will learn This session will discuss the components that are typical in the creation of schematic type drawings. We will discuss the reuse of AutoCAD blocks in draft drawings and how to access these blocks directly. We will discuss how to create blocks with labels and define the properties in the blocks and show several live demonstrations. We will discuss how to extract the block information and to format this information in a table on the drawing. If you have any need to create 2D layouts or schematics, you don't want to miss this session. Page 4

6 Organizing Your Blocks What is a Block Library? A way to reuse your common blocks. Any Draft file that contains many blocks Select the Draft file in the Edge Bar Library tab. No need to have a different Draft file for each block. Put blocks of a specific category into a single file. Drag-and-Drop to copy a block from the library. 8 Organizing Your Blocks How do I add a block to my library? Create a new block in the active document. Open the block library draft file. It becomes the active document. In Edge Bar click on the file that contains the new block Drag and drop the new block into the library draft file Delete the occurrence and the block remains Save and close the block library draft file Page 8

9 Organizing Your Blocks Did you know? Reuse DXF and DWG blocks Select a DWG or DXF file in the Edge Bar. Drag-and Drop to copy a block from the DWG/DXF No need to translate the file to a Draft file first Translates the block on the fly Page 9
