4 th Generation VLC courtesy of Edison Getting the Most Out of Solid Edge Assembly Design Art Patrick, Assembly Product Manager, #SEU13
About: Art Patrick Art Patrick Assembly Product Manager Art is a senior member of the Solid Edge planning team located in Huntsville, Alabama. He joined the Solid Edge team prior to Solid Edge V1 and has completed projects across the entire Solid Edge application suite. As Assembly Product Manager he is now focused entirely on Solid Edge Assembly. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University. Page 2
Getting the Most Agenda ST6 General Enhancements Select and Edit from ASM New Create In Place Modeling in Context Page 3
Steering Wheel Enhancements The Steering Wheel has been enhanced: Full steering wheel is now a triad Positioning will allow key-point filters Improve orientation/alignment when positioning RMB cancels repositioning operations Added prompts to indicate operations Size control (Small, Medium and Large) Page 4
Path Finder Red Box Indication When Selecting or Locating components in sub-asms we now indicate in pathfinder the sub-asm that the component resides in. This makes it much easier to determine the level and location of the components in the ASM structure. Page 5
Physical Property Enhancements Enhancements to cover top ER requests In Assembly, User Defined override like in Part In Assembly, Update on Save like in Part All properties now written to Variable Table Page 6
Quick Enhancements for Assembly Parts Library UI Add Home folder button (UI for secret Ctrl+.) Add Back/Next buttons Add File filter button Mirror ASM reuse mirror components Currently mirror create a new file for each occurrence This change will re-use the file for all occurrence that are mirrored. When IPA with Hide Previous Level = On view orientations (ISO, FRONT etc.) track with the active document, not the top-level ASM. ASM Lower Pathfinder settings Increase default height (back to V20 size) Auto-hide = Off by default Pinned Pathfinder delay settings (Adjust timing to remove flash) Page 7
Demonstration Let s take a look Page 8
Create in Place Enhancements Command UI updated based on ERs and to improve workflows Default values, command defaults, template selection, new part material Enhanced positioning of component in the ASM Uses Coordinate System placement/orientation UI Supports Key-point filters New Snap to face center option Uses Save As UI to create file (Can overwrite existing files) Page 9
Sync Command Enhancements For IPA (1) Sync Extrude Face input command Extrude Planar face (Same as ST5) Exclude interior loops (New) Use Only interior loops (New) Edge/Chain input enhanced to select planar edges from faces Page 10
Sync Command Enhancements For IPA (2) New TAB command has been added to Sync Sheet Metal The command will take as input planar faces from within the active document or from components in the ASM. Same Face Loop options like ST6 Extrude. Page 11
Sync ASM Modeling (1) The following Sync Boolean commands now support input of occurrence geometry as the Tool body NOTE: No inter-part copy of the geometry is needed Multiple tool body components can be selected Page 12
Sync ASM Modeling (2) Sync Sketch Plane locking (Sync Only) While IPA the user will be able to lock to and draw on planar faces This is done using the Shift key to enter the locate mode Peer Edge Locate (Sync and Ordered) Peer Edge locate will be enhanced such that sketch geometric construction commands will locate peer elements In ST5 only dimensions and sketch relationships could locate peer edges. Page 13
Sync ASM Modeling (3) ASM Boolean Subtract Command This is a new feature command added to Assembly NOTE: This is not an ASM feature It modifies part geometry by subtracting one or more tool components from one or more target components The output of the command in the target part(s) may be Sync or Ordered depending on the command options and the type of part geometry. Page 14
Sync ASM Modeling (4) ASM Undo/Redo The Undo/Redo Stack is not linked to the top-level active ASM In-place edit operations into parts and sub-asm no longer clears the undo log On return to the top-level document all edits can be undone in a single operation. (Works like edit sketch, exit) Frame, Harness and XpresRoute have been enhanced to use the same method Support for Create/Edit of ADPF operations has also been added. Page 15
Punch (Emboss) Punch(Emboss) on Part and Sheet Metal parts with multiple solid tools For Sheet Metal parts thickness is inferred For regular parts thickness can be specified Clearances can be specified Multiple tools can be specified Sync feature is not editable edit using sync operations Target Page 16 Tool
