8 (a) [2] One mark for a valid example of digital content video PDF digital images digital sound file (b) This question is marked using the banded mark scheme. The points below are simply indicative of the type of points candidates could make they are not mark points in their own right. Points may include: preparing new content is time-consuming, therefore re-use of existing artwork saves time/money Jim will have lots of digital images from the artists so it is better to use them than try to recapture them He may need new digital images if the quality is not good enough It is good to add music to the website and this is easy with re-purposed digital content He may already have a video of the gallery and could add hot spots etc to create a virtual tour A content management system would make the site more manageable as Jim could simply upload the digital content Jim would want to create a house style and a content management system would ensure this Jim could let artists upload their own work using a content management system as it would be quite simple. [8] 7

Level 1 (0 3 marks) Candidates may only address some aspects of the question, and give basic descriptions of why re-purposed digital content would be used. Answers may be simplistic with little or no relevance to the case study. There will be little or no use of specialist terms. Errors of grammar, punctuation and spelling may be intrusive. Level 2 (4 6 marks) Candidates will address all aspects of the question and discuss/consider different aspects of both digital content AND a content management system applied to the context although development of some of the points/implications/advantages/disadvantages/benefits/drawbacks of using these techniques may be one sided or limited. There will be an attempt at a conclusion. Candidates will reference the case study. For the most part the information will be relevant and presented in a structured and coherent format. Specialist terms will be used appropriately and for the most part correctly. There may be occasional errors in grammar, punctuation and spelling. Level 3 (7 8 marks) Candidates will address all aspects of the question and discuss differentpoints/implications/advantages/disadvantages/benefits/drawbacks of both digital content AND the use of a content management system techniques applied to art gallery website design. The issues raised will be justified. There will be a reasoned conclusion Candidates will reference the case study. The information will be relevant, clear, organised and presented in a structured and coherent format. Specialist terms will be used correctly and appropriately. There will be few, if any, errors in grammar, punctuation and spelling. Only responses that are clearly linked to this concept should be considered. 8

9 [8] This question is marked using the banded mark scheme. The points below are simply indicative of the type of points candidates could make they are not mark points in their own right. Points may include: when designing a website to be viewed on a phone you have to take into consideration that they do they share the same resolution and will be lower resolution smaller screen than a laptop or desktop The amount of images you have is directly related to how long your website takes to load Too many images obviously causes a longer download time most users will immediately bounce off your page if what they re looking for doesn t come up fast enough. Images that are larger than the user s screen will force them to scroll around just to see an entire image. Many phone plans charge their subscribers based on how much data (bandwidth) they use every time they log onto the web from their phone; which means the longer your site takes to load, To make the text lible on a phone the page must be simple. Level 1 (0 3 marks) Candidates may only address some aspects of the question, and give basic descriptions of how images and navigation would be different. Answers may be simplistic with little or no relevance to the case study. There will be little or no use of specialist terms. Errors of grammar, punctuation and spelling may be intrusive. 9

Level 2 (4 6 marks) Candidates will address all aspects of the question and discuss/consider different aspects of both content AND navigation applied to the context although development of some of the points/implications/advantages/ disadvantages/benefits/drawbacks of using these techniques may be one sided or limited. There will be an attempt at a conclusion. Candidates will reference the case study company. For the most part the information will be relevant and presented in a structured and coherent format. Specialist terms will be used appropriately and for the most part correctly. There may be occasional errors in grammar, punctuation and spelling. Level 3 (7 8 marks) Candidates will address all aspects of the question and discuss differentpoints/implications/advantages/disadvantages/benefits/drawbacks of both Desktop AND mobile phone systems system techniques applied to art gallery website design. They will look at the issues of navigation, image size and navigation. 10

10 One mark for actual use and a second mark for a valid expansion which must refer to a virtual tour of the gallery. Jim could use a film walking around the gallery ( )with added hotspots where you could zoom in on images of the paintings ( ) You could have navigation buttons ( ) to look or move around the gallery ( ) Sound files could be used ( ) to give you a guided tour of the gallery ( ) There could be a blog section within the tour ( ) for user to click on a button and post comments on the paintings ( ) Artists could talk about their work when you click on it ( ) using video or sound files to bring it to life ( ) TOTAL [60] [6] Candidates may give the explanation /expansion before the other mark point on this question. 11
