This software is used to create Web Sites with the most advanced designs possible on the Web. Flash is the professional standard for producing high impact Web experiences. Students will use both programs to make their own web site and upload the web site to the Internet. Schedule Description: Everywhere in today s world, businesses and organizations are hiring web designers and editors to create and maintain web sites. Most professional web designers use Flash and Dreamweaver. This course will teach you to how to design or redesign an existing web site. You will create a web site for a business, ebay, a nonprofit organization, education, genealogy, or for personal use. Topics will include laying out photos, banners, logos, navigation buttons, videos, sounds, music, animations, and content. 5 CSLO 1 Use the software programs, Flash and Dreamweaver, to communicate information on the Internet through the design and programming of professional interactive, multimedia web sites. CSLO 1 is assessed by students completing a series of tutorials for Flash and Dreamweaver where students learn the program Then the students complete two project web sites and a final web site. The project web site will be completed in Dreamweaver and the second project web site is completed in Flash. The final project web site will combine both software programs into one web site. The final web site will be uploaded to the Internet to be used as a teaching tool for others in the class. Web sites will be assessed by being complete and uploaded to a website. CSLO 1 is also assessed by a midterm given on Flash and a final given on Dreamweaver. These exams ask students to describe how to use each of the software programs given different scenarios. CSLO 2 Maintain, redesign and update an existing web site for a professional organization or business and upload new files, folders, and new information. CSLO 2 is assessed by a project where the students will use a template to layout and redesign a web site found on the Internet transforming the web pages to look professional and well-layout. The content on the web template will reflect if the web manager was able to carry out a thorough analysis of the current web site in terms of functionality, design and content. The web pages will be graded by the use of a rubric. CSLO 3 - Use ActionScripting, HTML, JavaScript and other programming to design and work with photos, banners, logos, navigation buttons, videos, sounds, music, and content to convey information to a targeted audience with easy-to-find, concise web elements that enhance the website. CSLO 3The completion of a final project web site will have all the technical elements of a professional website with content, photos, video, sound, banners, animated ads, copyrights, meta tags, and coded with HTML and JavaScript. The final website will be assessed on whether all the element are added, the design of the website, accuracy of the content, the time the web pages take to upload, the clarity of the photos, the placement of the information, and the effort put into the project. The following problem-solving question: Design a web page with thumbnail photos that have a short downloading time and a great design layout. Design a photo page of thumbnail images less than 15 kilobytes making sure the download time is short. Make sure the images are compress and layout in a pleasing design with white space, a photo title of 13 points, and make sure to use a font that is on most computers. When clicked on, the thumbnail photos should open up a new Internet browser window with larger photos of no more than 50 kilobytes file size. Method of Evaluation/Grading: CSLO 1 Use the software programs, Flash and Dreamweaver, to communicate information on the Internet through the design and programming of professional interactive, multimedia web sites. A level student work The tutorial for Flash and Dreamweaver are 100% complete. The projects and the final web site project using both Flash and Dreamweaver web software program include the theme or main idea for the web page. The web page itself is clear, and pages link to quality related information. The Page 5 of 8
6 content has accurate and very useful information. The theme or main idea is very clear. Clear, concise, and well written and edited with no serious errors. And the midterm and final are 90% and above accurate. C level student work The tutorial for Flash and Dreamweaver are 80% complete. The projects and the final web site project using both Flash and Dreamweaver web software program include the theme or main idea for the web page however the web page itself may contain some errors. The content may not be accurate and useful. The design may hinder the use of the web site. The midterm and final are 70% to 79.9% accurate. CSLO 2 Maintain, redesign and update an existing web site for a professional organization or business and upload new files, folders, and new information. A level student work Final layout will be graded by a rubric with the following criteria. Excellent general layout of the Web page elements. Graphical design is consistent, relevant, provide corporate identity, etc. Content 100 percent of the content is relevant Technical assessment software, navigation, hosting, hardware, access, etc. Navigation structure, e.g., From static to dynamic and database driven Web site, changing visuals necessitating redesign etc. Considered internal resource needs and budgetary constraints Identify unique problems, e.g., A situation where the main Web site should now be linked with branch offices each with a different database into one functional system. C level student work Final layout will be graded by a rubric with the following criteria. A level student work Each project web site home page will contain HTML to add meta tags, an accurate description of the website, keywords, and other web element, also more than one JavaScript code.
