1 A summary of the latest enhancements to PatBase and PatBase Express PatBase Analytics V2.0 has been launched The newly built PatBase Analytics version 2 has been completely re-designed to include more analysis functions and additional graph controls for the User. Each graph and module can be controlled to display the various data points on the fly making it easy to drill down to discover more. Up to 250,000 patent families are capable of simultaneous analysis, beneficial for Users wanting to analyse larger data sets. Searches loaded into the new module can be filtered to focus the analysis on specific assignees, jurisdictions, data ranges and patent types; handing the User greater control over the data used to generate their charts and graphs. In addition, new text clustering functions have been added together with new 3D heat maps..

2 Updated Legal Status module in PatBase The PatBase Legal Status Viewer and Timeline have been updated with a new design, as well as new information. The Legal Status Viewer is now one of the most comprehensive available, as it ties together data from a variety of original sources, including INPADOC, USPTO PAIR, Japanese Legal Status data direct from the Japanese Patent Office as well as other legal status data in PatBase data feeds. These multiple sources allow us to cover more legal events - and much faster - than ever before. The Timeline has been significantly improved to show calculated expiry dates for individual countries. US PTA and European SPC data is taken into consideration as well where available. Links to the new Legal Status Viewer can be shared as before. Alerts can be run automatically using Minesoft Legal Status Tracker to monitor specific events or groups of events - visit Users will note the more streamlined, modern appearance making it easier to clearly visualise the extensive information available. In the Timeline view, there is now an option to show Calculated Expiry Dates. When selected, this will show the Assumed Expiry in orange and the more accurate Calculated Patent Term Expiry in red. In Timeline and Table View, as well as under the Reassignments tab, Users can select several countries at once to filter by. A checkbox is provided in the drop-down menu.

3 Under each tab in the module, Users can see the family number, title, abstract and probable assignee for the family of interest. The design of the Priority Relationship diagram has been edited, making it easier to see how publications within a family are related by priority number. Search Turkey with enhanced speed and ease in PatBase We have recently sourced more up-to-date patent and utility model data from Turkey to PatBase. In addition, we have made it possible to search the Turkish data in both the original language and in English. This has been achieved by enhancing our indexing as shown below. Customisable PatBase Alerts - add you own corporate branding User Account Administrators can request changes to the formatting of PatBase Alerts received by their internal Users. Corporate branding simply add your logo and/or your preferred company colours! 4 Search multiple Folders in PatBase When viewing private folders under My saved folders, multiple folders can be searched together in PatBase. This is done by checking the boxes for the folders which you would like to search, and then selecting add to history in the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page. Classification Explorer made more convenient If Users load Classification Explorer when viewing a family, the classification codes related to the family in question are highlighted so that Users can check which codes are relevant. A link has been added when viewing the CPC or IPC codes to facilitate looking up the codes on either WIPO or Espacenet, making it easier and faster to check the definitions. More precision in citation searching Two new commands have been created to answer a need for more specific citation searching: CTBPN = Searches backward citations for a specific publication CTFPN = Searches forward citations for a specific publication

5 Scan view in PatBase updated The Earliest Publication Date for a patent family has been added when viewing results in PatBase under the Scan display format. The style of the display format has been updated to be more modern and easier to quickly read the information provided. Dead or Alive tags included with published information If a PatBase User has the dead or alive tags option activated, accessible in Search/Display options under the Menu tab, these tags will be visible when results or folders are published. Build Bridges with PatBase PatBase Users can use new links built with GenomeQuest, to identify and interrogate patent sequence information within a patent document more effectively. A bridge has been built between PatBase and Centredoc s business intelligence platform RAPID too, to facilitate viewing patent data alongside other business insight (see TouchBase Issue 16).

6 Enhancements to TextMine Minesoft has developed TextMine for Chemical Explorer and has also added TextMine to PatBase. Chemical Explorer is an ideal companion to PatBase if you need to search patents for chemical information. Users can create chemical structure queries, these can form identity, similarity and substructure searches. Due to the sustained high rate of growth for the therapeutic proteins market globally, we have now added antibodies to TextMine. Users can easily identify any antibodies mentioned in a document of interest. New functionality for TextMine includes a new mosaic view of the images within the section of the document being viewed. Clicking on the mosaic image view link will open a pop-up window displaying all the images which make up the mosaic. By selecting an image, Users can enlarge and scroll through any images included in the current document section. Clicking on any image whilst using the TextMine tool will also open the new view.
