2 PatBase Enhancements October 2011 Minesoft and RWS Group are pleased to bring you a new release of PatBase this Autumn. Read on to find out about the new enhancements, many of which are the result of valuable feedback from our users. We are also delighted to announce that Minesoft is celebrating its 15th Year Anniversary this year. 3 NEW Data Coverage in PatBase We are pleased to highlight the following Coverage enhancements, all added to PatBase in the last 12 months with the aim of giving you access to the most comprehensive patent data in a single database. Recently added data Full-text for Scandinavia and other European countries (Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain) Full-text for Indian applications Japanese citations Taiwanese non-latin Titles, Abstracts, Patent Assignees and Inventors. Chinese Full Text and Machine Translations of Full- Text Japanese Machine Translations of Full-Text DOCDB new states added: Georgia, Hungary, Republic of Serbia, Colombia German Machine Translations of Full Text French Machine Translations of Full-Text Full-Text and Biblio for Indian grants Current projects We are currently in the process of adding: Brazilian Full Text Further Taiwanese non-latin Full-Text additions and 2010 Australian Full Text 2

4 NEW Field Qualifiers and Commands Same document field qualifiers The following commands allow you to limit your keyword searches to within the same publication. This means that when you search two terms using and or not, the keywords will need to be present in at least one full text within the family, allowing you to narrow your search if required. 5 Visual Explorer comes to PatBase The dynamic Clustering and Visualisation tool Visual Explorer is now available in PatBase. Identify trends in keyword, assignees and IPCs with a choice of interactive visualisations that break down the data in a clear, pictorial way. Once you click on a cluster of interest to browse through relevant records, you can add all records from that cluster to your search history to re-analyse or to add to a folder. Look out for the Visual Explorer icon at the top of the search results page, or access it directly from your search history page under the more options. Keyword Visualisation in Visual Explorer 4

6 New fields added to Snapshot The Snapshot analysis tool now offers a breakdown of Keywords and Citations from your results set. View a Citations timeline graph to see the citations history, or choose to view the most frequently occurring Keyword terms with the integrated Visualisation options. Citations Timeline graph in Snapshot Folder Shortcuts You can now have up to 5 default folders available via shortcuts at one time during a search session allowing you to assign a record to multiple folders with just one click. This new feature enables you to use folders to assign records by feature, project or any other relevant tags that relate to the current search. Folders can be new, existing or even shared folders set up under your User ID. Records already present in the folder will be checked. 7 Custom User Fields: New option to bulk-classify records PatBase account Administrators can set up internal Custom User Fields in their Settings to apply companyspecific criteria to PatBase records e.g. product categories, invention descriptors, estimated expiry date or comments. Users (depending on access rights granted by administrators) can view and assign values to these fields, which can be searched together with standard PatBase fields, using the Custom User Fields search form. This new time-saving feature allows PatBase administrators to assign up to 250 records from a results set to a particular field in bulk. Go to more on the search history page and assign custom user fields to tag all the records from that search. 8 Search Machine Translated Full Text Machine translated Full Text has now been added for China and Japan allowing you to search the text using English keywords. Use the non-latin search form to search (in English) the machine translated Full Text enabling you to pick up important Asian records you may otherwise miss. Search Machine translated non-latin full text from the non-latin search form When viewing non-latin families in the Full Text view, the new machine translations for Japan and China are now displayed side-by-side with the original non-latin text for easy review. 7 View original non-latin text and English translation side by side

9 Hits View The new Hits display format allows you to view Full Text records ordered by the publications that retrieve the most hits for a given keyword search or highlighting scheme. This will enable you to browse through results at a faster rate, one family at a time, with the most relevant publications appearing first to scan through section by section with the aid of the hit analysis and keyword visualisation circle. This new display format is very useful for scanning results to find Keywords in Context. Browse through the most relevant families one by one aided by Keyword Visualisation Wheel and Hit Analysis Go to Hits next to Browse on the search history page to open the Hit View, or switch to Hits from the display format dropdown on the search results page. 8

10 Enhancements to Alerts Option to not receive alert s with zero results If you would rather only be alerted when your alert has returned some results, you can now choose to opt not to receive alert s with 0 results, by going to the Alert Management screen. Option to add an header to alert s PatBase Alert owners can choose to add text (a comment/note) to alert s an ideal way to communicate important information to alert recipients. Each alert can have its own header.
