2 IPBI Analysis Orbit.Com s IP Business Intelligence Analysis charts and maps can help you acquire market knowledge and understand your company s market position and areas of expertise. There are three IPBI levels: Silver up to 15,000 records can be sent from Search, 10,000 for saved analysis Gold up to 30,000 records from Search, 15,000 for saved analysis Platinum no limit for records from Search, 30,000 for saved analysis Orbit Advanced Training 2

3 IPBI Analysis Gold level includes: Concept features 20 predefined business and technology charts Color template feature Toggle selections back to Search interface Platinum level includes: Landscape map Extensive customizable chart features

4 To analyze, select records, then click Analyze icon 4

5 When you click Analyze icon, Gold and Platinum users will go directly into predefined charts. Silver users will go into the Chart Types tab.

6 Under chart types, charts that can be accessed are shown. They include: Horizontal bar chart Vertical bar chart Pie chart Bubble chart Heat chart Concept treemap (IPCs only for Silver) Concept wheel (IPCs only for Silver) Geographical map Technology Domain chart Assignee patent age chart Tag cloud Citation/Coassignee/Coinventor chart Coassignee chart 6 Concept Landscape (P)

7 Orbit Basic Training 7 When a chart is chosen, search results from a predefined axis field is shown (in this case Assignee). Each chart is fully customizable, with axis field, axis names, title, and filters, etc. in the Chart Control window

8 When bars are selected and applied, results are shown in the preview window. Browse selection sends these records back to the Search interface (G,P) Orbit Advanced Training 8

9 For the search interface, these results becomes part of your session history. Records can be further examined, searched, filtered, or brought into a new analysis. To go back to IPBI, click browser Back button, or click Orbit.Com orange drop down tab and go to Analysis. Orbit Advanced Training 9

10 There are over forty predefined charts that can be accessed by category To see them, just click on the category. Each chart is then further customizable using the Chart Control. Orbit Basic Training 10

11 Legal status can also be accessed in the IPBI module. Here it is represented with a pie chart. 11

12 12 The bubble chart can show trends over time. It can be customized and saved using Save in My Charts so that any template can be used for other analyses.

13 After it is given a name, a chart template is added to the My Charts tab. Chart templates can be used with any other analysis. 13

14 Concept Charts (G,P) Tag Cloud Concept Wheel Different representations of similar concept data. Data is based on concepts in the US, EP, and WO records. Records can be selected from concept sections. Orbit Advanced Training 14

15 The Concept Landscape (P) shows all patent records identified by concepts in a landscape, and how the concepts are clustered in regard to each other. The landscape is fully customizable. Any areas can be selected to show which concepts in that area are prevalent. Concepts can be renamed Assignee template can overlap on landscape. 15

16 Color template can be applied to charts for particular assignees, concepts, codes, etc. Multiple assignees, codes, and concepts can grouped under one color. 16

18 Questel syntax can be applied to charts using the filter option. This example shows families with grants in the US. 18

19 Custom axis can be used with boolean queries to design totally unique charts. 19

20 Drill down feature allows you to select from left chart and analyze selected records in chart on right. 20

21 Saving Your Analysis In order to group assignees, concepts, and classifications, and create data rules, analysis must be saved. Click Save Analysis. Up to 10K can be saved at the Silver level, up to 15K at the Gold level, and up to 30K for platinum level Data rules can be saved and used in other analysis Orbit Advanced Training 21

22 Saved Analysis are accessed in the Search and Workfiles modules. Data rules can only be applied on saved analysis.. 22

23 Data rules can be applied to assignees, concepts, inventors and codes. There Check are two the levels boxes for for saving the items data to rules: be grouped. Analysis scope rules will only apply to the current analysis; User scope rules can be activated for any analysis. 23

24 Suggest groupings will group similar companies together for you.

25 The Data rules administration tab shows the rules saved on an account. User scope rules can be activated and deactivated here. All charts will reflect any new groupings. 25

26 Exporting and Saving Charts You can: Export the chart data as a CSV file Export as an image Save as a hyperlink Orbit Advanced Training 26
