3 BYOD General Information a) What devices have been tested (Operating System / Devices)? Apple ios 5 (iphone 3GS, iphone 4/4S and ipad1/2/3) Apple ios 6 (iphone 3GS, iphone 4/4S, ipad1/2/3 & ipad Mini) Android 2.3 on Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Wildfire phones Android 4 on Samsung Galaxy S2 phone Android 4.1 on Samsung Galaxy S3 phone Android 4 on Acer Iconia Tab Tablet Windows 7 & Windows 8 Professional MacBook 10.6 and 10.8 Ubuntu Desktop 12.1 ZorinCore (Linux client based on Ubuntu & Gnome) b) Non-Supported Systems / Devices Windows XP Sony e-reader Amazon Kindle c) Tested Applications / Browsers 2X application for Remote Access Default Mail client for ios device as per tested devices Default Mail client for Android as per tested devices Internet Explorer 9 Mozilla Firefox 10 Google Chrome 18 Safari 5 Only the above mentioned application / browsers have been tested and there is NO guarantee that other operating systems or software or applications may work PLEASE NOTE:- Any device that does not support WPA2-AES will not connect to the JPC Wireless solution, if you are unsure please check with your vendor Any Software Application or Mobile App that attempts to access the internet directly and not through the JPC Proxy server may not work. Any device that does not contain a Virus Scanner and/or Personal Firewall may be banned from JPC Wireless solution How do I connect to the JPC Wireless? a) Connecting your Apple or Android device to JPC Wireless Network Connect to the Wireless SSID JPC-BYO Username/Identity Enter your username Password Enter your password Security WPA2 Enterprise Authentication PEAP (with MSCHAPv2) 2 Apple Example Go into Settings, Wi-Fi Select JPC-BYO SSID Enter your username in the Username field Enter your password in the Password field
4 Click Accept to accept the jpc.local certificate You should now be connected to the JPC-BYO wireless Android Example Go into Settings, Wi-Fi Settings Select JPC-BYO SSID Enter your username in the Identity field Enter your password in the Password field Click Connect & you should now be connected to the JPC-BYO wireless b) Connecting your Win7 Professional device to JPC Wireless Network Win7 PCs need a couple of changes to connect correctly.we suggest manually creating a Wireless connection. When doing so, please ensure that you turn off the options:- Validate server certificate (Under Settings ) Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (Under Settings, Configure ) When doing so, please ensure that you turn on the options:- Specify authentication mode (Under Advanced Settings ) Change to User Authentication Save credentials Enter your username and password. Will need to change this setting next time your password is changed. 3
5 c) Connecting your Linux device to JPC Wireless Network Select the JPB-BYO SSID in your Wireless settings. Ensure the Authentication settings are :- WPA2 Enterprise PEAP MSCHAPv2 Username & password Ignore any Certificate messages How do I connect to the Internet in the College? Open your browser (i.e. Internet Explorer or Firefox etc.) and go to an internet address (eg It should redirect to the Smoothwall Firewall called or Leia. Accept the Certificate warning if it appears.enter your JPC username and password to connect to the Firewall How do I connect to JPCNet? Open your browser (i.e. Internet Explorer or Firefox etc.) and go to Sign in with your JPC Username and Password How do I save my College documents or work? Options for saving College documents and work:- 1. Save locally first (i.e. BYOD or College computer or laptop or imac) and backup to USB OR 2. Save directly to USB OR 3. Save to any cloud service i.e. Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Docs etc. Advise NOT to use network drive H: for storing files for a couple of reason as the storage space is limited, not private and not fully compatible with all operating systems. What devices can I print from? Windows 7 devices Macbooks How do I print a webpage? 1. Save the page as a pdf and then follow How to print using webprint? instructions 4
6 What types of file formats can I print? How to print using Web Print 1) Go to the following URL :- 2) Enter your JPC network username and password 3) Click on web print on the left hand side and then click submit a job 4) Select the printer,( if you require colour select the Colour print queue) you would like to use and continue by pressing the Print Options page 5) Select how many copies and then click the upload documents button to continue 6) Upload your file, files types that can be uploaded are listed, then click upload and Complete What if I have issues connecting to JPC Wireless? 1. Check if your wireless option is turned on 2. Check if you are using the right username and password 3. Check if you are connecting to JPC-BYO Wireless Network 4. If you recently changed your password, please re-enter your password as most devices save passwords locally. 5. If still does not work, please restart your device 5
7 How do I connect to JPC Applications via 2X? What is 2x? 2x is a software that does the following:- 1. Provide a virtual desktop for non- windows devices 2. Or if you do not have Microsoft Office applications installed locally and need to access this on a temporary basis. How do I get this software? Download Software from Various App store (search 2x )or Apple Example Download 2X from Apple App store Click + Select 2X Connection For Alias, enter JPC For Address, enter jpcapps.jpcvictoria.catholic.edu.au For Port, enter 443 For User Name, enter YourUserName@jpc.local For Password, enter your password For 2X Mode, enter Gateway SSL Mode Click Save Click 2x JPC You should now see a listing of folders and applications that is available to your account. Android Example Download 2X from Google Play app store Select OK when asked to Add a new Connection Select 2X Connection For Alias, enter JPC For Server, enter jpcapps.jpcvictoria.catholic.edu.au For Port, enter 443 For User Name, enter YourUserName@jpc.local For Password, enter your password For Connection Mode, enter Gateway SSL Mode Click Menu button Click Save Click 2x JPC You should now see a listing of folders and applications that is available to your account. Note If you get a message saying Username or Password is incorrect Click OK Click Switch User Click Other User Enter jpc\%yourusername% and your password Note 2X Application has Mouse & Keyboard helpers available under Menu option or bottom of the screen. 6
8 How do I connect to JPC via built in Mail, Calendar & Task applications? Software Required Compatible Mail software with Exchange ActiveSync SMTP, imap & Pop3 Not available Apple Example Go into Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendar Click Add Account Select Microsoft Exchange For , enter your full external JPC address For Domain, enter jpc For User Name, enter your Username For Password, enter your password Change Description to JPC Exchange Click Next Autodiscover will fail to find the correct server. Click Accept to accept the jpc.local certificate if required For Server, enter jpcmail.jpcvictoria.catholic.edu.au Click Next. This will fail to find server, click Save Turn on the options you want to sync Click Save Edit the JPC Exchange account Turn off Use SSL option Note When configuring mail on Apple devices, if you enter an incorrect detail, please cancel all configuration and start again or you can experience issues. Android Example Go into Settings, Accounts and sync Click Add Account Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync For Configure an Account, enter your full external JPC address For Password, enter your password Click Manual Setup For Domain:User Name, enter jpc\yourusername For Exchange Server, enter jpcmail.jpcvictoria.catholic.edu.au Turn OFF the tick for Use secure connection (SSL) Click Next Turn on the options you want to sync Click Next Give the Account the name of JPC Exchange Click Done 7
