1 IQLink ATC Controller Configuration Utility Announcing IQLink v3.9.6 Quixote Traffic is pleased to announce the release of Version of the IQLink Utility Software. IQLink is used to configure Quixote s ATC family of traffic controllers, including the ASTC New York CBD controllers, the ASTC NEMA TS2 Type 2 Kern controller, and the other controllers in Quixote Traffic s ATC product line. This is the first formal release of the IQLink software as part of the Quixote Traffic product family. Product... IQLink Version... Version Release Date... November 30th, 2007 Product Requirements This release of the software requires a Windows compatible computer, running Windows 2000 or Windows XP. However, IQLink is not yet approved for operation under Windows Vista. The operation of the software also requires a communications path to one or more Quixote Traffic ATC-family traffic controllers, either via a direct Serial connection or an Ethernet connection. The operator can opt to work in an offline mode, meaning that no live connection is made to a controller, if he or she is working on a controller database in memory, or when exporting controller programming to a USB thumb-drive. However, most other operations within the software utility require an active connection to a traffic controller. The software will assume, by default, that a connection to a controller is desired, so it will attempt to make such a connection unless you tell it, during each session within the software, that you do not wish to connect to a controller. 2 Installation Notes This following procedure describes how to install the IQLink Version software. Before Installing IQLink Version Verify that the operating system is at Windows 2000 or Windows XP, with the latest service packs and security updates from Microsoft installed. (IQLink Version is not compatible with Windows Vista.) 2. If this is a new installation, you will need to configure the Windows operating system with the SNMP service. To add this service to your version of Windows, you will need the Windows installation disk(s). These are the steps to install the SNMP service: a.) Go to the Start menu and choose Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove programs. When the window appears, choose the Add/Remove Windows Components button on the left side of the window. b.) Scroll down, highlight the Management and monitoring tools item, and press the Details button. Figure 1 Windows Component wizard window - Management and Monitoring Tools c.) Check the Simple Network Management Protocol option, and then press OK. d.) Insert the Windows CD, if requested. e.) After the installation is complete, we will need to configure the SNMP Service for operation with IQLink. Go to the Start menu again, and choose Start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. f.) Scroll down and right-mouse click on SNMP Service, and choose Properties. Page 2 of 5

Make sure public appears in the Community field, with READ CREATE in the corresponding rights field. If not, then either edit the existing field or add a new one to create a public listing in the Community field. The Community name is case sensitive, so be sure to use the lower-case public, not PUBLIC or Public. Figure 3 Defining the SNMP Service community value 3. If a previous version of IQLink is installed on the computer, locate and back up the main IQLink database. The file is called astc.mdb. It is likely on your C drive in the Program Files\Astc\Database folder, or else it is stored where you installed IQLink itself, if you chose a custom install location. 4. If a previous version of IQLink is installed on the computer, locate and back up the old IQLink user database. The file is called UserDatabase.mdb. It is likely on your C drive in the Program Files\Astc\Database folder, or else it is stored where you installed IQLink itself, if you chose a custom install location. 5. If a previous version of IQLink is installed on the computer, you will first need to un-install the previous version of the application. The IQLink installer will not let you install over the old version. To uninstall the previous version, just run the installer and select Remove from its second screen. The uninstall process will automatically back-up the intersections currently stored in your IQLink database. Page 3 of 5

4 6. Complete the installation procedure described below (to install the new version of IQLink) and then return here to complete the last two steps listed here. 7. If you are upgrading from an older version of the software, now is the time to copy your backup version of the user database file UserDatabase.mdb back into the IQLink directory. It will not cause any problems for you to overwrite the existing file. 8. Again, if you are upgrading from a previous version, this is the time to open the new version of IQLink, log in, go into the intersection edit window, and Import the intersections back into the IQLink database. Installation Steps 1. Insert the IQLink Installation CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. 2. If autorun is working on this drive, the Install CD interface should appear automatically. If autoplay is not configured for this CD-ROM drive on this computer, open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to the drive. Locate the start.exe file and double-click it. This will open the installation CD interface. 3. From the main menu, click on the large Install IQLink button. 4. If you have a previous version of IQLink installed on your system, the installer will detect this and present you with a screen to either modify, repair, or remove the previous version. It will not permit you to proceed with the install until you have uninstalled the previous version of IQLink. When you uninstall IQLink using the Installation CD interface, the database will be preserved. When you then run the installer again to install the new version of IQLink, it will detect the old database and export its intersections to individual.mdb database files. You will need to import these intersection files back into IQLink after you have completed the install. 5. If this is a new install, follow the on-screen directions. 6. When the installation is complete, click the Finish button. 7. You can use the Install CD interface to then view the IQLink release notes, or some documentation concerning related products. 8. Close the Install CD menus. 9. Go into the Windows Start menu and choose Programs > IQLink (<for Managers>, or <for Administrators>, depending on which version you ordered.) 10. When the application opens, you will be asked for a user name and password. If you are working with the Administrator version of IQLink, the default value is USTC_ADMINISTRATOR for both fields. (The fields are case sensitive, and the default password must be in all capitals.) If you are working with the Manager version of IQLink, the default login value is USTC_MANAGER for both fields. 11. When you get into the application, as a security precaution, you should create a new Administrator level user account and password, and remove the default user account. (A Manager level user account if you have the Manager version of IQLink.) These actions can be performed using the commands on the Login menu. 12. If you are completing an upgrade install, don t forget to go back to the last two steps listed in the pre-install instructions, to restore the intersections from the old version of IQLink, and to restore the old user accounts. 5 Software Features IQLink is a Windows utility application that allows a single operator to connect to a single Quixote Traffic ATC-family traffic controller at a time. Once a connection has been established, the following functions are possible using the software: Add, edit and delete user accounts Uploading new firmware to an ATC family controller Retrieving a controller database into the IQLink database Modification of a controller s database in memory Uploading of a controller database to a controller Write controller database files to a USB thumb-drive that can then be plugged into a controller Print out a controller s configuration setup Configure and run automatic alarm polling for an attached controller Additional Guidance on IQLink The following additional resources are available for all customers should you have the need for extra guidance concerning the IQLink software and its use with a variety of hardware.
