3 The GfK Digital Trends App The GfK Digital Trends App is designed to explore the use of certain online services. It consists of a software program for your Windows based computer and a browser add-on for Internet Explorer. While you are using the Internet, the software registers which websites you visit and which ads can be seen on these pages. Each time you start the browser the add-on is activated automatically unless you deactivate it in your browser. Please do not deactivate the GfK Digital Trends App permanently as you will drop out of the GfK Digital Trends Program if no data is received. For other support questions or if you would like a new download-link for example, please contact us at support@knowledgepanel.com. This manual will describe the download, installation on Windows and the activation of GfK Digital Trends App in Microsoft Internet Explorer. You will also find more information on how to uninstall the add-on at the end of this manual. Thank you for your participation! Your KnowledgePanel Team System requirements The software is only compatible for the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP / Microsoft Windows Vista / Microsoft Windows 7 (including the 64-Bit version) / Microsoft Windows 8 and 8.1 (including the 64-Bit version, please note that only browsers running within the Desktop App but not within the Modern UI are supported), Windows 10 (including the 64-Bit version). And one of the following web browsers is required: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher / Mozilla Firefox 3 or higher / Google Chrome 7 or higher You will need to have administration rights to your computer for the installation. 4 Downloading with Microsoft Internet Explorer On the download page, click the Download button. Please be patient, as the download is specially created for you and therefore requires a few seconds to complete. The further procedure depends on the browser in use. Below are instructions for downloading with Microsoft Internet Explorer. As soon as the download is available a bar at the bottom of the window will be displayed. You can choose to Run GfK Digital Trends.exe directly, or to Save the file and run it manually. The simplest option is to choose Run : GfK Digital Trends App 24 th August

5 Installation The installation of the GfK Digital Trends App is fully automatic. Please note, however, that administrator rights are required. On Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 you may be asked by User Account Control for permission to start the installation. If necessary, enter your administrator password and click "Yes". On Windows XP, you may receive the message "You cannot install this software, because you do not have administrator rights" if you work with a limited user account. Please install the software onto the computer with an administrator account. Accepting the End User License Agreement Please read the End User License Agreement carefully. If you choose to accept the Agreement and to continue, please check the box(es) below the scrolling box and click on Accept. Otherwise, click on Decline. You can also click on Show agreement text to open the agreement as a TXT file in a text editor: GfK Digital Trends App 24 th August

6 The Installation Wizard The installation will run automatically. Please follow the instructions given by the Installation Wizard. Please click on Continue to proceed with the installation. This step can take a few minutes. Your web browser may still be open. If so, the Installation Wizard will recognize this and ask you to close your browser momentarily. Click OK and the installation will proceed automatically. The installation has now been completed. Please click on Finish to reboot your computer. GfK Digital Trends App 24 th August

7 Activating the add-on in Microsoft Internet Explorer Please reopen your browser! You may receive the message that several addons are ready to be used. Please click on Choose add-ons and then on Enable next to GfK Digital Trends, as the add-on is required for your participation in the GfK Digital Trends Program. (Alternatively, Internet Explorer may display an information bar at the bottom of the window with the message that GfK Digital Trends can now be used. Please confirm this message by clicking on Enable.) You might also receive the message that GfK Digital Trends wants to open web content using this program on your computer. This may happen before the user selection dialog opens. Please select Do not show me the warning for this program again at the bottom of this security dialog and then click on Allow : When you first start your browser after installing the GfK Digital Trends App the add-on is configured. This might take a few seconds. As a result Internet Explorer occasionally identifies the application as a potential threat to browser speed and could ask you to turn it off. We can assure you that the GfK Digital Trends add-on is designed to neither affect the browser in its capacity nor the browser's speed. Therefore, please do not disable the GfK Digital Trends add-on, but click on the next to Ask me later and select Do not deactivate from the menu. Otherwise, the flow of data will be interrupted, which will make your membership of the GfK Digital Trends Program inactive and prevent us from granting any incentive. 8 You can enable or disable the add-on at any time in Internet Explorer. Please select Extras from the menu (or ) and choose Manage Add-ons. GfK Digital Trends should continuously stay enabled for your membership to this study to stay active. If the status of the add-on is Disabled, please select GfK Digital Trends and choose Enable at the end of the add-on management window: In all versions of Internet Explorer you should make sure that Third-Party Browser Extensions are enabled. The settings are located in the Internet Options menu. You can check this by opening the Extras or Menu, then opening the item Internet Options and selecting the tab Advanced. In the section Browsing, please check the Enable third-party browser extensions box. Once this is done, the changes will not take effect until you restart Internet Explorer. 9 The user selection for the GfK Digital Trends App For privacy reasons we only want to analyze the internet usage of members of the GfK Digital Trends Program, not other users of the computer on which the GfK Digital Trends App is installed. Therefore, you have the option each time you start the browser to indicate whether you are a member of the GfK Digital Trends Programme, or someone else using the computer. If the latter, choose Guest from the user dialog and click OK. In order to switch users, you can open the user dialog at any time by clicking on the icon in the Windows task bar, next to the clock. Please note that you may have to click on first to show hidden icons. GfK Digital Trends App 24 th August

10 View GfK Digital Trends App Version Information Via the GfK Digital Trends program group in the Start menu of Windows you can open a dialog with information about the add-on. Windows Vista and 7: Select All Programs and open the folder GfK Digital Trends. In this folder you will find the item About GfK Digital Trends. Clicking on it opens a window with information that could assist you if you are in need of helpdesk support: Windows 8: Wipe from the right edge of the screen (or move the mouse pointer to the upper right corner of the sceen or press the Windows key and A ) to open the Charms Bar. Click on Start to get to the Modern UI and click on the GfK Digital Trends app-icon to open the About dialog: Windows 8.1: Click on to go to the Modern UI. There, tap or click on the GfK Digital Trends app icon to display the information dialog. GfK Digital Trends App 24 th August

11 Uninstall the GfK Digital Trends App (Windows XP, Vista, 7) You can uninstall the GfK Digital Trends App at any moment. Please note that by doing this you will end your participation in the GfK Digital Trends Program. Please choose from the Windows Start menu, either All Programs, GfK Digital Trends, Remove GfK Digital Trends or Control Panel and then with Windows XP Software or with Windows Vista and Windows 7 Programs. The start menu entry: (Windows 7, similar with other Windows versions): With Windows 8.1 and 10, open the Control Panel by right-clicking on and choosing Control Panel from the context menu. Then click either on Programs and Features or Uninstall Program. The Programs and Features control panel (Windows Vista, similar with other Windows versions): If you choose to uninstall the software via the Control Panel and you are using Windows XP, please click Remove. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, 8.1 or 10, double-click directly on GfK Digital Trends or use the right mouse button and choose Uninstall : Confirm the security request ( Are you sure? ) by clicking Yes. The software will then uninstall automatically. You will get the message that the software has successfully been uninstalled at the end of the process. 12 Uninstall the GfK Digital Trends App (Windows 8) You can uninstall the GfK Digital Trends App at any time. Please note that by doing this you will end your participation in the GfK Digital Trends Program. Wipe from the right edge of the screen (or move the mouse pointer to the upper right corner of the sceen or press the Windows key and C ) to open the Charms Bar. Click on the gear symbol to get to the Setting menu. In the Settings menu, click on Control Panel. GfK Digital Trends App 24 th August

13 In the Control Panel, under Programs, click on Uninstall a program : In the list of installed programs, click on GfK Digital Trends, then above on Uninstall : Confirm the security request ( Are you sure? ) by clicking Yes. The software will then uninstall automatically. You will get the message that the software has successfully been uninstalled at the end of the process. Click Finish.
