1 PERVASIVE.SQL 7.0 INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR WINDOWS NT IMPORTANT: The entire installation of Pervasive.SQL 7.0, including the uninstall of previous versions of Btrieve, should be done by a trained network technician or engineer. The use of this installation guide is intended to be a quick reference for installing Pervasive SQL 7. It is not meant to replace the documentation included with the software but to summarize the salient points to help you do the installation. 3 Prerequisites Checklist PREREQUISITES CHECKLIST Note: The installation instruction in this manual does not include the instruction for applying Pervasive service pack which is applied after the Pervasive SQL 7.0 installation for both the server and workstations are completed. See Pervasive.SQL 7.0 Service Pack Installation Guide for Windows NT. In network environments that are Microsoft only, it is recommended to have TCP/IP as the only protocol installed on the workstations and servers prior to installing Pervasive.SQL 7.0 Network OS requirement: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. Important - You must have at the minimum Service Pack 3 for NT 4.0 installed. It is recommended that you have the most current service pack for NT 4.0 installed. Refer to This installation will require a CD-ROM drive on the file server. ebix.com support requirement - Communication software pcanywhere Version 8.0 or greater installed and tested on the file server and on the administrative workstation. Perform a complete backup of your server prior to installing Pervasive.SQL 7.0 If you have Btrieve running on your server, you MUST stop it at the server by accessing Control Panel. Double-click on the Services icon. Highlight BTI Microkernel Engine and click on Stop. Note: You must uninstall your current version of Btrieve on the server and workstations prior to installing Pervasive.SQL version 7.0. 4 IMPORTANT If you have software other than ebix.one that uses Btrieve, contact your software vendor to ascertain that it will support the Pervasive.SQL version 7.0 before removing your current version of Btrieve. REMOVING OUTDATED VERSIONS OF BTRIEVE (VERSION 6.15 OR VERSION 6.10) 1. Remove all occurrences of the following files from your workstations and your server. brequest.exe mkdelink.dll wbtrthnk.dll w16nr.dll breqnt.exe mkdesvcs.dll wbtrves.dll w32bticm.dll bti.ini os2nwbrq.dll wbtrv32.dll w32mkde.exe bticomm.dll wbtrcall.dll wbtr32.exe w32mkrc.dll btrcalls.dll wbticomm.dll wbt32res.dll w32nr.dll wbtrlocl.dll Note: Remove the files listed above prior to installing Pervasive.SQL Hint: Bti.ini is in C:\windows. The other files are mostly found in your C:\windows\system directory. Use the Find utility to search for these files. (Click on Start. Select Find, then go to Files or Folders.) 2. If you are currently using Version 6.10 you will need to perform these additional steps at each workstation: a) Using Windows explorer, browse your C:\windows directory. b) Locate Winstart.bat. Highlight this file. c) Right click on Winstart.bat and choose edit. d) Delete the line(s) containing brequest.exe. e) From the file menu select save. f) From the file menu select exit. 5 Server Installation SERVER INSTALLATION Note: The server installation must be done at the file server. Step 1 Have all users log out of the server completely. You will need to restart the NT server at the end of this installation. Log onto your file server as an Administrator. Place the Pervasive.SQL User Count diskette in the floppy drive. Place the Pervasive.SQL Version 7 for Windows NT CD in the CD-ROM drive. The following window should appear automatically. If not, click on Start. Select Run and click on the Browse button to locate and double click Setup on the CD-ROM drive. Step 2 When you see the following window, click Next to continue. (If you must exit, click once on the Cancel button.) Pervasive SQL 7.0 Installation Guide for NT Page 5 of 24

6 Server Installation Step 3 Click on the Typical button. Step 4 If the default Destination Directory is correct click on Next and proceed to Step 6. If the Destination Directory is incorrect, click the Browse button and change it to the correct path. Note: The drive for the Destination Directory must be a physical partition and NOT a mapped drive. Page 6 of 24 Pervasive SQL 7.0 Installation Guide for NT

7 Server Installation Step 5 Install Pervasive.SQL 7.0 to the same path as your ebix.one installation. For example, if ebix.one is to be installed to the path C:\delphi\cdprod then you should install Pervasive.SQL to C:\delphi\PVSW. Step 6 If the following dialog box appears, choose YES to remove your legacy Btrieve service. Step 7 Place Pervasive.SQL User Count diskette in the floppy drive if you have not already done so. 8 Server Installation The next window will appear (your user count may be different). Click on OK. Several Setup windows similar to the following will appear. Do not install Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0. You will have the option to install Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 later with the ebix.one installation. Step 8 After passing several automated Setup windows, the following window appears. Click on Next. 11 Server Configuration SERVER CONFIGURATION Step 1 Note: The Pervasive server configuration should be done at the NT server. If you are re-configuring the Pervasive server configuration, make sure all users are out of ebix.one before you begin. Exit all windows programs before starting the server configuration. 12 Server Configuration Step 2 Click the down arrow in the Component Box and select MicroKernel Database Engine. 1)Click the down arrow in the 'Component Box' 2)Select 'MicroKernel Database Engine. Step 3 Change the current Open Files Settings from 20 (default) to 300. Do not click on save yet. Select handles by clicking on Handles under Settings. 1)In the Categories box, select File Settings. 2) In the Settings box, select Open Files. 3) Change the current settings to 300. 13 Server Configuration Step 4 Note: The default for Handles is 60. If you have more than 5 ebix.one users you will need to increase the current handles setting to a number equals to the number of users times 100. For example, if you have 15 users, change the setting to 1500 (15 X 100), 2500 for 25 users, 5000 for 50 users and so on. Do not click on Save yet. 1)Still in the File Settings 2)In the Settings box, select Handles 3)Adjust the current settings. Multiply the number of users by 100. Step 5 Select Create File Version under Settings box. 14 Server Configuration Step 6 Click on Memory Resources under Categories box. Select Largest Compressed Record Size under Settings then change the current setting from 5 (default) to 8. 1)In the Categories box, select Memory Resources 2)In the Settings box, select Largest Compressed Record Size. 3)Change current setting to 8. Step 7 Click the down arrow for the Component Box and select 'Btrieve Communication Manager' 1)Click the down arrow in the 'Component Box'. 2) Select 'Btrieve Communication Manager.' 15 Server Configuration Step 8 Change the Number of Sessions current setting from 15 to 30. 1)Verify that Btrieve Communications Manager is selected in the Component box 2)In the Categories box, verify that Server Communication Configuration is highlighted. 3)In the Settings box, highlight Number of Sessions 4) change the current setting to 30. Step 9 Select Number of Communications Threads under Settings and change the current setting from 3 to 6. 1)Highlight Number of Communication Threads 2)Change current settings to 6. 16 Server Configuration Step 10 Note: If you have less than 16 users for ebix.one, proceed to step 11 Select Scalable SQL Communications Manager under Component. Change Current settings to maximum number of ebix.one users. Example: If you have 30 users then enter 30. 1) Click the down arrow in the Component and select Scalable SQL Communications Manager. 2) Change current setting of Number of Sessions from 15 to 30. 17 Server Configuration Step 12 Click on Start, select Settings, Control Panel. Double click on Services. Click on Btrieve 7.0 for Windows NT (Server Edition) once then click on Stop. Click on Yes. The following message will appear briefly. Pervasive SQL 7.0 Installation Guide for NT Page 17 of 24

18 Server Configuration Step 13 Scroll down and click on Scalable SQL v4.0 for NT once then click on Stop. Click on Yes. The following message will appear briefly. 19 Server Configuration The following message will appear briefly. Step 15 Scroll up and click on Btrieve 7.0 for Windows NT (Server Edition) again. Click on Start. The following message will appear briefly. Click on Close when the message disappears. Server configuration completed. Continue to the next section for the Client (Workstation) Installation. 20 Client (Workstation) Installation CLIENT (WORKSTATION) INSTALLATION Note: The client installation must be done at each workstation Step 1 Exit all Windows programs before running the setup. Click on Start, Run then Browse for Setup in the PVSW\CLIENT\WIN32 directory on the server where Pervasive.SQL 7.0 is installed. Double click on Setup then click OK. Example: Q:\ PVSW\CLIENT\WIN32\SETUP.EXE Step 2 When you see the following window, click Next to continue. (If you must exit, click once on the Cancel button.)
