3 INTRODUCTION This Tutorial will show you how to download and install MySQL You will find the downloaded package bundled up with the following important features (among various others): 1. MySQL Server MySQL Workbench MySQL For Excel MySQL Documentation Page 1

4 Preliminary Tips: 1. Try switching browsers if you are having downloading/installing issues 2. Use wired/ethernet cord for quicker installation 3. Make sure your Windows system is updated to speed up the Requirements process in order to install all necessary MySQL features. To check and complete updates: a. Go to Windows Start Button and search for System Updates b. Click button Check for Updates c. Finish any necessary updates Page 2

5 DOWNLOADING MYSQL INSTALLER ACCOUNT REGISTRATION 1. Open MySQL official website Homepage of the website will be shown as below. 2. Click the Login hyperlink given on the upper-right corner of the page. It will take you to Create Your Oracle Account Page Page 3

6 3. Fill all the required fields given on the page and click Create Account button at the bottom. 4. This will send a verification to the account used during the registration as shown below. Click on the verification link sent with the to activate the account. Page 4

7 Skip this page if you just created your account because you will be logged in LOGGING INTO MYSQL WEBSITE 1. 8 DOWNLOADING THE INSTALLER 1 On the startup page after successful login, click the Download tab next to the tab MySQL.com. 2 Click the Community sub tag underneath the Downloads Tab. A list of download option would be shown on the next form. Click the first hyperlink MySQL Community Server. Page 6

9 3. Scroll down to the Generally Available (GA) releases tab and select your platform to Microsoft Windows. 3 On this page, you will see a list of downloads. a. If the installer is required for Windows, click the Download button given just below the shaded box MySQL Installer 5.7 for Windows. Page 7

4 Now under Development Releases Tab click the Download button for the 365.5M file.

10 a. If you are using a MAC switch to your Windows Operating System Parallel and still select Microsoft Windows as you Platform as seen below. Click the Download button given just below the shaded box MySQL Installer 5.7 for Windows. 4 Now under Development Releases Tab click the Download button for the 365.5M file. If you re using Chrome browser, you ll see the file download status at bottom-left corner of the page. Upon completion of the download, open the containing folder. Page 8

Then try to install MySQL again by finding downloaded file in folder and double click/run 2. After waiting for few minutes, the following screen would appear. 13 3. System will bring another screen Choosing a Setup Type. Click Next button. 4. In the Check Requirements page, Click Next Button. Make sure you check and install ALL necessary requirements. 5. System will give a confirmation message dialog box. Click Yes button. Page 11

6. In the next screen, a list of options would be displayed. Click Install/Execute button. 7. The installation process would take some time to install.

15 9. Type and Networking screen would appear. Leave the default values in the fields and click Next button. 10. In the next screen titled Accounts and Roles, enter a MySQL Root Password. Reenter the same password in Repeat Password field. Page 13

16 11. In the next screen titled Windows Services, leave the defaults in the given fields and click Next button. **If you have a screen titled Plugins and Extensions, click the Next button. 12. In the next screen titled Apply Server Configuration, click the Execute button. Page 14

17 13. Executing the above will run the configuration steps. Click Finish button upon completion. 14. This will take you again to the Product Configuration screen (given in step 8). You will see the status against the entry MySQL Server changed to Configuration Complete as shown below. Click Next button. Page 15

18 15. This will bring up Connect to Server screen. Enter the previously chosen password in the Password field and click Check button. Status of Connection successful would be displayed. Click the Next button. 16. Apply Server Configuration screen will appear. Click the Execute button. Page 16

19 17. Following screen would be shown on successful execution. Click the Finish button. 18. Executing the above will take you to the screen previously shown in step 8. You will find the status against the item Samples and Examples changed to Configuration Complete. Click Next button. Page 17

20 19. Click Next button. Installation Complete window would be shown. 20. On the final screen, click Finish button. Since the checkbox Start MySQL Workbench after Setup is selected by default, this will open up MySQL Workbench. Additional Notes: 1. If any MySQL features are missing you can go back to your MySQL installer and add each feature by clicking the + symbols to select the feature and clicking the right arrow symbols to add them in. 22 LOGGING INTO MYSQL WORKBENCH 1. After MySQL Workbench is opened, click the grey shaded area Local instance MySQL56 on the upper-left corner of the screen (below the heading MySQL Connections). This will bring up the Connection dialog asking for password against the user root. 2. Type the password chosen at the time of MySQL installation for the user root, and click OK button. This will open a new tab in the screen like the one given below. Page 20
