1 Aeronautical Application Android Version General Information 1. Description The NGA Aeronautical Application provides DoD customers the ability to view our suite of Flight Information Publications (FLIP), FAA sectionals, Enroute charts, as well as new digital only products such as our Airfield Qualification Program (AQP), Giant Reports and textural weather. Aero data is encrypted on the server, and is verified against a signature file three times once when you download it to the app, again when you load data to standby, and again when you swap datasets. Credentials are securely stored on GEOAxIS, not on the cloud, so users can be assured that their information is properly protected. 2. Application version: Aero App Android version Replaces: Aero App Android version User manual/installation guides are at version Version Highlights: a. Tab Selection: Selecting the Data tab on the menu bar sometimes caused tablet to crash. Sectional Charts: No chart graphics displayed under Alaska or CONUS. b. Known Issues Moving Maps: Moving maps are fully supported on Lollipop and Marshmallow (Android versions 5.x. and 6.x.) Some KitKat tablets have been demonstrated to perform correctly for all moving map features, while others have not performed correctly or crash while using moving maps. General Features: If using a KitKat tablet (version 4.4.4), the application sometimes crashes when the Supplements option is selected. 6. Supported Operating Systems: a. Android 5.x or later b. Android 6.x 7. Installation instructions: a. On the Android device, go into Settings and Security. Verify that installing apps from sources other than the Play Store is allowed.

Locate the AeroApp_Android_ apk install file on the DVD or your computer and copy it to any directory on the Android device. To do this, browse to the device from the standalone computer s file explorer. Note: If you are using a Mac you will need to install the Android Transfer app to view folders on the tablet and copy the.apk file to your tablet. d. From the tablet, open a file browser. Note: If a file browser is not installed on your Android, you may need to install one. e. Install the app by selecting the AeroApp_Android_ apk file from the file browser on the Android device. Click on the file name and then select Install to install the app. f. The app is now installed on your Android device. 8. Delete previous installation files: a. Open file manager app b. Navigate to folder where installation files (ending in.apk) are located c. Delete selected files. 9. Uninstalling Aero App completely: a. Open the Settings icon b. Navigate to Application Manager c. Locate the Aero App icon and click the Uninstall button underneath and to the right of the app icon. Sectional Charts: No chart graphics displayed under Alaska or CONUS /04/2016 Enhancements Data Loading: o Data can now be securely downloaded from the Amazon Cloud using the same GEOAxIS credentials used for Ghub. This significantly reduces download times and increases data access reliability and availability for authorized users world-wide. E6B: Users now have a feature to perform the following tasks: o Unit conversions: distance, temperature, and weight. o Calculations: calculate fuel, wind, and time during flight planning and groundspeed, fuel, and time of arrival while in the air. Calculations also include true airspeed (TAS), cold weather altitudes, runway winds, winds aloft, takeoff climb rates, and pressure density altitude.

3 Aeronautical Application (Aero App) Android Platform Page 3 o Coordinate System conversions: convert between GARS, MGRS, latitude/longitude, and radial distance between VOR and latitude/longitude point (both ways). Flight Routes: o Airways are labeled with the correspondent name, and they are visible at the same level as VORs and waypoints. o Overlapping Airway segments are combined into a single label. Geo-reference: FAA APDs and DoD IAPs are now georeferenced General Sustainment Updates PDF Viewer: The PDF engine has been replaced for better forward compatibility and to resolve issues with the prior engine. Data Loading: The Load Data button reflects whether the data currently loaded is Cycle or Moving Maps. Airport searches: Setting a minimum runway length under Settings allowed airports that did not meet the specified criteria to appear under search results. Moving Maps: Returning to the Moving Map screen would display the aircraft position icon regardless of user s preference in settings. Chart Selection: Zooming in/out on a selected chart sometimes resulted in a black square over the image /31/2015 Moving Map location marker: Sometimes the location icon would not clear when GPS location data was unavailable /10/2015 Enhancements Flight Routes o Airways waypoints can now be added to flight routes and displayed on moving maps as part of the route. o Departure Procedures can now be added to flight routes and displayed on moving maps as part of the route. o STARs can now be added to flight routes and displayed on moving maps as part of the route. Moving Maps o Victor Airways can be shown on any moving map. o Air Refueling routes can be shown on any moving map.

This option increases the height of main menu buttons by 33% /31/2015 Enhancements Local data sources: Updated auto-discover functionality to be more intuitive. o If Auto-discover is turned off, the app will search only the specified directory and the download folder o If Auto-discover is turned on, Aero App will search all folders on the device for Aero data files Chart rendering: Updated rendering for UI to improve visual fidelity on a wider range of Android devices NGA Artwork: Updated NGA Aeronautical Navigation Office Logo to new official design Ghub downloading: Application was unable to download from Ghub due to a change in the Ghub certificate No data message : Message box text too light to easily read Favorite Airports: Favorite airports did not display correctly when the favorites star icon was selected Host Nation Charts: It was possible to crash the app under certain conditions when downloading charts /8/2015 Enhancements Air Refueling Routes added to Moving Map. Host Nation Charts can now be downloaded and displayed by ICAO code. Notes Page has been added The deprecated PDF viewer has been replaced to improve performance and reliability. The new viewer currently does not support bookmarking or PDF annotation. A future planned enhancement will address this issue. Info page did not display the rotating beacon or arresting gear information Data loading: o Application sometimes appeared to add datasets to cycle when the data was deleted from internal storage o If the application stopped responding, the application sometimes indicated that no data was available, even if data was loaded

5 Aeronautical Application (Aero App) Android Platform Page 5 o When using the Samsung Galaxy, if the user switched several times between ADS and Ghub, the app crashed o When Ghub was selected as the data source, the user selected a few regions and then tapped cycle again, selected files a second time, and then returned to the download screen and tapped refresh and Ghub again, data did not appear to be downloaded, except for the last downloaded region o After loading data and selecting preferences or data, multiple pop-ups sometimes appeared o App sometimes failed to load CONUS Part 1 data Georeferencing: Sometimes the geo-referencing circle was missing from APDs Flight Routes did not appear in alphabetical order in the selection list unless marked as a favorite /18/2015 Moving Map turned black/blank screen after creating first flight plan and adding two airports. Base map did show as available Additional minor bugs as needed /18/2015 Enhancements Moving Map Moving map is now available for the first time in the Android Aero App. Features include: o Available map layers: FAA Sectionals Enroute Hi Enroute Low o Turn own ship position on or off ADS support Datasets can now be downloaded from an available Aero Data Server. Incremental loading New data files can be added to any currently loaded cycle. Enhanced Airport search Search results can be sorted based on ICAO, Airport Name, Max Runway Length, and Distance. Favorites User can select Airports to be recalled by pressing the Star icon in the search screen. Flightplan was sometimes lost when adding files during incremental load Airport/Navaid searching - Entering values such as,, etc sometimes causes an error General Changes Versioning - Changed versioning system to reflect

6 Aeronautical Application (Aero App) Android Platform Page 6 release cycle in the second set of numbers rather than the third. This maintains consistency with a similar change in the ios version. Credits - The About screen has been updated to reflect the third party software in use /29/2014 Newly loaded FAA Sectional charts did not display unless the app was stopped and restarted. PDF Documents o Pressing the Cancel button to close a.pdf document text search caused the app to crash. o Entering any special characters into the pdf text search box could cause the app to crash. o When selecting the same supplement document to view 2 times in a row, the supplement was not displayed the second time. o First supplement in dropdown list did not appear until another supplement was selected and then the first was re-selected. o When viewing the Legends document, selecting menu options and find without entering a page number caused the app to crash. Flight Plans o The search screen for Navaids incorrectly stated Search Flight Plans. o After adding a new airport to a flight plan, the new ICAO was not always displayed in the flight plan. o Attempting to add a flight plan with no name disabled the flight plan creation functionality. o In the airport search screen, deleting search text did not clear out the list of matching airfields. App sometimes crashed when moving between tabs. When 2 datasets are loaded, if the user viewed a chart from one dataset and then viewed it from the second dataset, if the chart had been removed from the second dataset, an error would occur. App sometimes crashed when working with charts. Closing the app when the Flight Plan dialog box was open could cause the app to crash when it was re-opened. Data loading o Closing the app while data was loading caused app to crash when it was restarted. o Completely closing and reopening the app while data was being downloaded could cause the app to crash.

7 Aeronautical Application (Aero App) Android Platform Page /5/2014 Enhancements Swipe between pages - Implemented Swipe to Next Entry for Terminal Charts. User will be able to swipe between entries for Terminal Charts (AD, ARR, DEP, IAP, TOMIN, LNDMIN). Selecting an entry from the spinner/drop down is still an option Bearing calculations have been corrected and are now based on magnetic north instead of true north. NOTAMs/TAF&METAR are now displayed inline, as all other Airfield information (AD, AIP, etc.) Nearby airfield search updated to display distance, bearing, and ICAO codes in the menu list. Miles have been changed from statute to nautical miles Calculation for min/max Lat/Lon has been corrected. The original calculations produced a search square with a hypotenuse equal to the search diameter. Updated calculations produce a search square with each side equal to the search diameter. Extraneous results are later filtered. Cases for the Poles and 180 Meridian have been added. The Giant Report button now matches ios version. Airfield Info Page/Runways: general runway information will remain left-justified when description test is sparse /9/2014 Enhancements Ease of Use - Added font size control button to user preferences. This will allow the user to change the font size on the airfield info page. Giant reports Giant reports can now be downloaded, installed, and viewed. Enroute charts Enroute chart dropdown list now organizes charts by chart type. Airfield Searching Airfield searches are much faster Airfield Information Page now has a header label showing the airfield name and identifier /11/2014 Enhancements Weather Data: NOTAMS, METARs, and TAFs are displayed under the Wx (Weather) tab for user-selected airfields. This page requires an internet connection, and retrieves weather data from the following sources: o NOTAMs: o METARs: aviationweather.gov/adds/metars o Weather TAFs: aviationweather.gov/adds/tafs

Look & feel: The UI has been updated to more closely match the ios app. Orientation issues: o ADP selection was resetting when the tablet was rotated. o When in landscape orientation the drop down box for documents blocked the view of the bottom-most menu button. o In landscape view, the keyboard sometimes overlapped the flight plan list, so not all flight plan names could be viewed. o When viewing a chart, switching from landscape to portrait mode could make the view switch to airfield information. o Rotate Button: When viewing a document under [Dep], the [Rotate] button (curved arrow) remained visible after selecting another tab that does not have a document. (Corrected) Menu issue: Airfield menu (Info, AD, Dep, etc) was displayed when the application started, even when no airfield was selected. Legends: o Scrolling down the legends page could crash the app. o While viewing legends, if the user pressed the back button, the screen displayed airfield info but did not display the menu for that airfield. Incorrect products displayed o Map shown in background: On smaller devices, after selecting the [Map] button, then selecting a different menu option and zooming in an out, the map reappeared behind other displayed objects. o Display issue for unloaded regions: Occurred when not all regional zips are loaded. When viewing charts for a region outside of the loaded regional zips, a placeholder sometimes appeared for the image. Sometimes parts of the map appeared when switching between a chart in a loaded region and a region outside of the loaded regional zip files. Flight Plan List: when the user added airfields to an existing flight plan, then pressed the [General] tab and selected [Charts], and then selected [Flight Plans], and

9 Aeronautical Application (Aero App) Android Platform Page 9 rotated the screen, incorrect data products were displayed behind the Flight Plan list. This also crashed the app intermittently /9/2014 Enhancements Performance enhancement data loading time is reduced from 30 minutes to about 10 minutes. Data cycle swapping The app now supports data swapping comparable to that already available on the ios platform. During unzipping, the progress display text was not completely visible Fixed bug that did not delete sig files when app was uninstalled Previously, when the user selected NAVAIDS or added an airfield, the screen would revert to landscape mode, even if the tablet was in portrait mode. This has been corrected so the screen can be viewed in either landscape or portrait mode /24/2014 Fixed error in data compatibility now works correctly with 10 regional zip files vs. 7 in previous version. This was necessary to accommodate an updated data file structure /27/2013 Fixed chart display bug.
