4 1 SCOPE 1.1 PURPOSE This document specifies the load instructions for the HSD-400i Swift Broadband terminal [AD1]. 1.2 APPLICABILITY This software document applies only to the HSD-400i Swift Broadband terminal and its associated software. 1.3 ACRONYMS BCL BGAN CC GAN HSD Binary Command Language Broadband Global Access Network Channel Card, one of two channel cards in an HSD Global Access Network High Speed Data Transceiver Page 2

7 3 HSD-400I APPLICATION SOFTWARE AND REQUIREMENTS Table I lists the software media required for this release. LI shall be loaded to 1252-A only. Ensure the Maintenance port cable (front panel) is connected. 3. Connect a terminal session (Hyperterm or other) to the UUT (19200, 8 bit, No parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control). Always use the password maint when logging in. 4. Open a DOS session and change directory to where the software load shown in Table I is located. 3.1 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS CONTROL PROCESSOR APPLICATION UPGRADE The control processor application is upgraded as follows: 1. Power up the HSD. 2. Log into HSD by entering the password 3. Disconnect the terminal session. 4. From DOS session, execute the command ADT_LOAD p Where p is the serial port number in use. 5. At the target prompt, select the control processor application by typing: 0 6. At the file or table prompt, enter the file name for the new application: HSN323.BIN 7. Press <Enter> to proceed with loading. 8. The new application will be loaded and verified. The ORT parameters will then be written to the SCM (this can be seen on the terminal session). The HSD will automatically reset when completed. Page 5

8 Note: Step 7 may take up to 25 minutes to complete CHANNEL CARD SETUP 1- Log in by entering the password 2- Go to Menu 3, M, 97 to set both channel cards to Swift64 mode CC#1 = S CC#2 = S Reset the unit if any changes were made. Note: If an error occurs at this stage, reload the control processor application code and reboot the HSD DATA I/O APPLICATION UPGRADE The data I/O application is upgraded as follows: 1. Disconnect the terminal session. 2. From DOS session, execute the command ADT_LOAD p Where p is the serial port number. 3. At the target prompt, select the Data I/O application by typing: 4 4. At the target prompt, enter the file name for the new application: DIOMain2.6.elf Press <Enter> to proceed with loading. 5. The new application will be loaded.. 6. Repeat the steps 2 and 3 to upgrade the Data I/O boot loader. 7. At the target prompt, enter the file name for the DIO Boot code: DIOBoot2.0.elf Note: A power cycle may be required before loading DIOBoot2.0.elf. 8. Press <Enter> to proceed with loading CONTROL PROCESSOR KERNEL UPGRADE (FACTORY ONLY) WARNING: Do not power down the HSD during this upload. A power interruption will result in an un-recoverable state. The HSD requires Kernel version 1.6 If required activate the Kernel code as detailed below. Page 6

9 The control processor kernel is contained within the application load. However, the kernel must be activated. Upgrade the control processor Kernel as follows: 1. ADT_LOAD p -k Where p is the serial port number. 2. At the prompt, press <Enter> to proceed with loading. 3. Reset the unit VERIFY THE INTERMIN SOFTWARE AND CONFIGURATION 1- Log in by entering the password 2- Go to Menu 2, V (verify software load) 3- Verify the following software versions: Firmware version: Kernal: V1.6 Application V32.3 Data I/O card: version DIO bootstrap version Note: Hit V three times to get to Data I/O and DIO Bootstrap 4- Go to Menu 3, K, 80, 1 (to ensure SW field loadable is enabled) 5- On Menu 3, type K, 514, ENABLED (to ensure TFTP Server is enabled) 6- If any changes were made, reset the UUT CHANNEL CARD #1 BOOT UPGRADE WARNING: Do not power down the HSD during this upload. A power interruption will result in an un-recoverable state. Note: Ensure Ethernet cable is connected between computer and maintenance port cable. 1. If unit is reset, log in by entering the password 2. Enable report 69 by hitting =, entering 69, <Enter>, and <Esc>. 3. Ensure all cards are in OK boot state before initiating the upgrade. 4. Turn Off report Go to Menu 2 by pressing Ctrl+O until menu 2 is reached, then press L, enter allowtftp. This allows TFTP for 10 minutes. Page 7

From the Microsoft DOS prompt execute: TFTP -i put CC1Boot.7z (TFTP transfer and update may take about 20 seconds) The terminal session will show Data I/O: completed: Success after successful upgrade. 7. The HSD will automatically reboot after the upgrade CHANNEL CARD #2 BOOT UPGRADE WARNING: Do not power down the HSD during this upload. A power interruption will result in an un-recoverable state. Note: Ensure Ethernet cable is connected between computer and maintenance port cable. 1. Log in by entering the password 2. Enable report 69 by hitting =, entering 69, <Enter>, and <Esc>. 3. Ensure all cards are in OK boot state before initiating the upgrade. 4. Turn Off report Go to Menu 2, L, enter allowtftp. This allows TFTP for 10 minutes. 6. From the Microsoft DOS prompt execute: TFTP -i put CC2Boot.7z (TFTP transfer and update may take about 20 seconds) The terminal session will show Data I/O: completed: Success after successful upgrade. 7. The HSD will automatically reboot after the upgrade TFTP UPGRADE WARNING: Do not power down the HSD during this upload. A power interruption will result in an un-recoverable state. 1. Log in by entering the password 2. Enable report 69 by hitting =, entering 69, <Enter>, and <Esc>. 3. Ensure all cards are in OK boot state before initiating the upgrade. 4. Turn Off report Go to Menu 2, L, enter allowtftp. This allows TFTP for 10 minutes. Page 8

From a Microsoft DOS prompt execute: TFTP -i put HSD_part1.7z (TFTP transfer and update may take about 2 minutes) The terminal session will show Data I/O: completed: Success after successful upgrade. 7. The HSD will reboot after the upgrade. 8. Log in 9. Enable report 69 by hitting =, entering 69, <Enter>, and <Esc>. 10. Ensure all cards are in OK boot state before initiating the upgrade. 11. Turn Off report Go to Menu 2, L, enter allowtftp. This allows TFTP for 10 minutes. 13. From a Microsoft DOS prompt execute: TFTP -i put HSD_part2.7z (TFTP transfer and update may take over 6 minutes) The terminal session will show Data I/O: completed: Success after successful upgrade. 14. The HSD will reboot after the upgrade LOAD VERIFICATION 1- Manually reboot the HSD after the automatic reboot completes. 2- Log in by entering the password 3- Enable report 69 by hitting =, entering 69, <Enter>, and <Esc>. 4- Ensure all cards come up to OK boot state. 5- Ensure the channel cards are in BGAN 6x mode by navigating to Menu 3, M, 97, B, 6, 0, B, 6, 0, Enter. 6- Reset the UUT. 7- Log in 8- Go to menu 10, and enter A 9- Wait for the channel cards to come up. 10- Verify the software CRC and load detail from Menu 2, V. Check the firmware versions per the bold highlighted values as shown in Table II(LI Rev A00 Details.) Page 9
