3 Overview AML 7220 Scanner Configuration Guide The AML 7220 Handheld Scanner operates as a fully functional Linux network host. The unit is used by warehouse operators to perform bar code scanning of products as the come into and leave the warehouse. These units communicate with PaceSetter to update inventory, match pick ticket items and validate order processing. The unit must first be charged by placing it in its charging cradle for four hours. Once charged the unit can be programmed using this guide. Units ordered for use with PaceSetter have the 55-key alphanumeric keypad pictured below. This keypad is used to perform the programming of the unit for use by the customer. Customer Information Before the configuration can be finalized information about the customer s network must be obtained. Specifically the following items must be provided: 1. IP Address of the PaceSetter host 2. IP address to assign to the 7220, this should be an IP address that is not within the DHCP pool used on the customer network and is not currently assigned to any other device on the network. 3. The SSID of the customer s WiFI network and any passkey s or encryption information about the WiFi network. The customer must have a WiFi network to use the scanner. 4 Configuration AML 7220 Scanner Configuration Guide Configuring the 7220 for use with Pacesetter is fairly straight forward and uses the four keys indicated below, Power On/Off, Enter, Menu, Escape and a few of the number keys. Power on the unit by pressing the Power On/Off key. Once the unit has fully booted and assuming this is the unit has no configuration yet, the following screen will be displayed: Press the Menu key repeatedly until the Administration screen appears: Version 1.2 August 20, 2015 Page 3

Press 4 (four) for Editing. Ensure Global Edit is enabled (All Barcodes). To enable select it with the down arrow and hit enter. It will change to enabled, when you exit this screen it will change to All Barcodes. Hit escape to exit back to Sanner Engine menu screen Scroll down to Prefix, press enter, press Func V and Func R and you should see I~ Press escape until you get back to the Admin screen Press 5 (five) for Scanner and make the Type ID AML. Use the Enter key to change the setting. Press the Escape Key twice to return back to the Administration menu. Now press 2 (two) to select the Network menu. Press 1 (one) to select Interface. 7 AML 7220 Scanner Configuration Guide Use the down arrow to select IP address and use the number keys to enter the IP address that the customer provided to you that is not within their DHCP range. This is the IP address of the 7220 on the customer s network. Press the escape key to return to the Network screen. Press 2 (two) for Wireless. At the SSID press the Enter key and type in using the alphanumeric keypad the SSID of the customer s wireless network. This must match exactly, and is case sensitive. So uppercase and lowercase letters must be used to match exactly what the customer has an SSID. Use the Shift key to get uppercase letters. Use the down arrow to move down to Network and insure that it is set to Infrastructure. Press the escape key one to return to the Network Menu. Wireless Security Setup NOTE: If the customer is using encryption and/or security on their wireless network then it should be entered from this screen. Press 3 (three) and enter encryption and/or security parameters as required. The most common security is WPA and PSK which requires a passkey. If the customer s WiFi uses this then do the following: Press 3 for Security, hit Enter until Encryption is WPA/WPA2. Press the down arrow to WPA Type and ensure it is PSK (to change use the enter key). Note that it is assumed the customer is using PSK. Press the down arrow to Keys/Phrases and ensure it is ASCII Text (use enter key to change) Press the down arrow to Passkey and hit enter, type in the passkey the customer provided to you using the alphanumeric keypad. When done hit escape to exit back to the Network screen. This is the host that is running Pacesetter at the customer site and that the 7220 will connect to when in operation. Now arrow down to Terminal ID and hit enter. The terminal ID should be set to VT-220 or VT-320.
