4 1 Requirements 1) Windows XP Home/Professional 2) Infrared interface in accordance with IrDA 1.0, e.g. USB IrDA Interface 3) Min. Pentium 300MHz, 128MB, 1,5GB Hard Disk Memory 2 Please note The computer and devices compatible with BluOnLine communicate via an infrared interface. Before sending or reading data, make sure that the connection between the device and the computer is clear. Windows must show an active infrared connection. This instruction manual does not provide instructions for the basic operation of personal computers nor does it provide information about the basic functioning of operating systems like Windows. Please refer to the manual that came with your computer for information on the topics mentioned above. Every precaution has been taken to ensure the accuracy of the instructions and details given. 5 3 Installing the software 3.1 Before you begin To install the software BluOnLine you have to be a user with Administrator privilege for the operating system. Otherwise the software cannot be installed. 3.2 Install Click BluOnLine Installer.exe to start the installation. After your authorization has been confirmed, the main window of the installation assistant will appear. Click Next to get to the next window ( Licensing agreement ). Read the licensing agreement very carefully. You can only install the software if you accept the agreement. To carry on with the installation, click Accept. In the next window ( Select components ), you have to select the elements which you want to be installed. Check if you already have the programme package PostgreSQL (Open Source Databank) on your computer. If so, this programme package cannot be installed automatically with the software. In this case you have to either delete the existing data bank or deactivate the installation of PostgreSQL (see illustration 2) to use the existing databank. The installation assistant automatically suggests a directory for the software but you can change this setting to suit your preferences. Please note that you cannot use any special characters (ä, ö, ü, ß,,, $, %, &, /, =, #,?,!, *, >, <, ', +, â, é, è, etc.) in the names for the folders and files. In the next window ( Choose Start menu entry ), you are asked to select a folder for the Windows Start menu. You can either accept the assistant's suggestion or set a personalized folder. Click Install to start the installation. As soon as the installation is complete, click Finish. The software is now installed on your computer and can be started via the Windows Start menu jh 5 of 27

6 3.3 Uninstall Please note that uninstalling the software will delete the data of the Data logger, saved parameters and all other data stored in the software. Therefore make sure that you, should the situation arise, have a backup of your data. To uninstall the software select BluOnLine -> Uninstall BluOnLine in the Windows Start menu. Follow the instructions given in the window. The software will automatically show the directory in which 'BluOnLine' will be stored. Click Next to select the components to be deleted. Click Uninstall. As soon as the process is complete, click Finish jh 6 of 27

7 4 Start the Software Establish an infrared connection between your computer and the device (e.g. using an USB-IrDA-interface; connected to the USB slot on your computer). The following symbol appears in the Windows task bar: Put the device in reach of the infrared interface. The Windows task bar shows the symbol for an active infrared connection: Be careful that the connection between the computer and the device stays clear. While transmitting data, the following symbol is shown in the Windows task bar: You can start the software via the entry 'Programmes -> BluOnLine' in the Windows Start menu. The first window to appear is the Login window with a user name and a password already entered. Illustration 3: Login window The default language for the standard user is German. To change the language for the standard user into English you have log on once as administrator. To do so change the Logon Id to admin_en. Now you can change the language for the standard user into English under the menu item Manage users. For more information see chapter jh 7 of 27

8 Click OK to get to the main window. Illustration 4: Main window Click on the product which you want to operate (e.g. Blu Box T-R-S/TempBox). 9 5 Parameters Parameters Commands Illustration 6: User interface Parameters This menu item enables you to set the parameters of the device (Nominal temperature, Temperature source, Automatic timer, Autostart mode, Button start, Button stop, Button programming mode). The following commands are available for transmitting and changing parameters: Receive parameter set, Send parameter set, Send group parameter set, Open parameter set, Save parameter set, Print parameter set. 5.1 Set parameters/send to device Change the parameters to meet your needs and click Send parameter set or click Send group parameter set to transmit pre-defined group parameters (see chapter 9.2.1). 5.2 Read/edit parameters Click Read parameter set. The software shows the parameters stored in the device. Edit the parameters and click Send parameter set to store the changed parameters in the device. 5.3 Draw up a paremeter set Define the parameters to suit your needs and click Save parameter set. Enter a file name in the opening window. Click OK to save the set, Cancel to terminate the process jh 9 of 27

10 5.4 Use/edit parameter set To call up a pre-saved parameter set, click Open parameter set. A list with all available sets will appear. Mark the parameter set needed by clicking on it once (it will be highlighted blue) and then clicking on Select. The settings of the selected parameter set will be displayed. Click Send parameter set to use this parameter set. To change parameters in a parameter set, open the parameter set. Carry out the necessary changes and proceed as described in chapter 5.3 ( Draw up a parameter set ). 5.5 Print parameters/save parameters as PDF You can print parameter sets by clicking on Print parameter. You can only print the parameter set displayed! If you like to save a parameter set as a PDF file, click Print parameter set and then the saving symbol in the upper left-hand corner. 11 6 Data logger Illustration 8: User interface Data logger The menu item Data logger enables you to receive the operation data from your device and show them graphically. The received data is afterwards saved permanently in the databank so you can access historical data anytime. The displayed data can be exported to other programmes, data and graphs can be displayed, printed or saved as text or PDF file. 6.1 Receive data The device always holds the data of the last seven operation days. You cannot access data of the current day. Establish a connection between your computer and your device. Click Receive data. 6.2 Analyse data To analyse data, select the device name of the wanted device in the array Select device. After selecting a device, the array Data archive will show a list of all records available for this particular device which are part of the selected period of time. Every entry in the list stands for the data of one day read from the device. You can decrease the number of shown records by selecting a smaller time frame. To show data in a diagram, click on the particular record in the array Data archive. The control panel Display options enables you to narrow the day time period to gain more detailed information. The times can be altered to suit your needs. For this use the arrow buttons to the right of the relevant array or change the time manually. To do so, click on the array with the time you want to change and replace the time shown with the time needed. It is also possible to select the contemplation period with the mouse. Move the indicator of the mouse to the upper left-hand corner of the relevant detail, hold down the left mouse button and pull towards the lower right-hand corner till the frame surrounds the whole detail needed. Release the mouse button. Now only the jh 11 of 27

12 selected detail of the diagram is displayed. To get back to the overall view, hold down the left mouse button on any spot of the diagram, move the indicator to the left and release the mouse button. 6.3 Print diagram/save diagram as PDF To print a diagram, customize it and click Print diagram. A print preview will appear. Illustration 9: Print preview Analysis Click on the printing symbol. A window will appear so you can lay down the conditions for the print. You can only print the diagram displayed! If you like to save a diagram as a PDF file, click Print diagram and then on the saving symbol in the upper left-hand corner. Click in the opening window Select file in the upper right-hand corner. Select a storage location and enter a file name. 13 7 Service Illustration 10: User interface Service This menu item enables you to check the device as well as set the time, the measuring intervals and the measuring counts. 7.1 Check time Click Receive time. The software shows the time and the date set in the device. 7.2 Set? time To update the time and/or the date, click Send time. Please make sure that the date and the time set in your computer are correct as the software will rely on it. 7.3 Receive status You can check the status of your device (Temperature heating element/sensor, Operating mode, Runtime) for test purposes. Click Receive status to have the information displayed jh 13 of 27

14 7.4 Data logger options (Measuring intervals, Measuring count) You can map out how often and in what intervals the Blu Box T-R-S/TempBox will detect the temperature by using the Data logger options. The unit of the measuring intervals is minutes. The intervals and the measuring count can be altered with the arrow buttons next to the according array. If required, the option Measuring interval battery can detect the temperature sequence after taking the device off the power supply (e.g. for transport). 7.5 Measuring intervals/measuring count To customize the measuring intervals and the measuring count, use the arrow buttons to the right of the according array. Click Send parameters. 7.6 Diagnostic data The buttons Receive diagnostic data, Start diagnostic mode and Stop diagnostic mode are intended for internal test purposes. 7.7 Start/Stop device The buttons Start device and Stop device are intended for internal test purposes jh 14 of 27

15 8 Configuration Illustration 11: Choose appearance The menu item Configuration enables you to change the appearance of the user interface. To do so, click on the arrow button next to the array Look and Feel. Select the favoured image from the list. The example-arrays show what the chosen appearance will look like jh 15 of 27

16 9 Management Illustration 12: Management In Management, there are several possibilities: Manage devices Manage device groups Manage parameter sets Manage users These possibilities are explained in the following jh 16 of 27

17 9.1 Manage devices Illustration 13: User interface Manage devices All devices correlated with the software will be listed and saved automatically in Manage devices. If you are using a number of devices, you can group them under different group names. If the device belongs to a group, then the group name will be shown in brackets behind the device name. More possibilities are explained below jh 17 of 27

18 9.1.1 Print list of devices/save list as PDF The list of devices can be printed. Click Print to open the print preview. Illustration 14: Print preview Devices Click on the printing symbol. A window will appear so you can lay down the conditions for the print. If you like to save the list as a PDF file, click Print and then on the saving symbol in the upper left-hand corner. Click in the opening window Select file in the upper right-hand corner. Select a storage location and enter a file name. There are more possibilities available which will not be explained any further here Edit device You can change the name and the group of a device. Click in the list on the device you want to alter (device is highlighted blue). To change the name, click on the array Name and enter a new name. To change the group, click on the arrow button next to the array Device group and select a group name from the list (you have to create a device group first, see chapter 9.2.1). Click Save to apply the alterations jh 18 of 27

19 9.1.3 Delete device In case you want to remove a device from the list, highlight it and click Delete. You have to be a user with administrator privilege for 'BluOnLine' and the command has to be confirmed. 9.2 Manage device groups Illustration 15: User interface Manage device groups In Manage device groups, you can group devices to match the same parameter set to several devices. The device group Standard is default and cannot be deleted Create device group To create a device group, click New. The list Device groups shows new group highlighted blue. Enter an new name in the array Name if required. Click on the arrow button next to the array Parameter set and select a parameter set from the list (for Create parameter set refer to chapters 5.3 and 9.3). You can enter notes regarding the group in the array Description. You add devices to the group by marking a device in the list available with one mouse click and then clicking on the arrow pointing to the right (to the list selected ). The device appears in the list selected. When the list for the group is complete, click Save to apply the alterations. The assigned group parameter set can be sent by clicking Send group parameter set in the menu item Parameters. The software will automatically send the parameter set destined for the connected device because of its group affiliaton jh 19 of 27

20 9.2.2 Print list of device groups/save list as PDF You can print the list of device groups. Click Print to open the print preview. 21 9.3 Manage parameter sets Illustration 17: User interface Manage parameter sets The menu item Manage parameter sets enables you to overview all of your saved parameter sets. There already is a usable parameter set which cannot be deleted. You can create and edit parameter sets like in Parameters Create parameter sets To create a parameter set, click New. New parameter set will appear highlighted blue in the list Parameter set. You can enter a customized name in the array Name. Set the different parameters to suit your requirements and click Save jh 21 of 27

23 9.4 Manage users Illustration 19: User interface Manage users It is possible to create different user accounts. There are three default user accounts which cannot be deleted. You can either use these user accounts or create your own ones (see chapter 9.4.1). The authorization of users is defined in user roles. The user role admin holds all authorization. The role user only holds limited authorization. With this role it is not possible to delete entries and create or edit user accounts. It is recommended to only log on as admin when the respectively extensive rights are needed. This will minimize the probability of unauthorized or unintentional deletion of data Create user account Click New to create a new user account. newuser will appear highlighted blue in the list Users. You have to set the language, the user role and a password. To set the language and the user role click on the arrow button next to the according array and select the settings needed. Click Change password to define a password. Click Save to save the created account jh 23 of 27

25 9.5 Backup and restore data Illustration 21: User interface Backup and restore data Back up data The backup enables you to store all data saved in the BluOnLine databank on your computer or any other storage device. Click Backup and the window Save will open. Select the storage positon and enter a file name. Click Save Restore data If you want to restore data, i.e. load pre-safed data back into the software, click Restore data and select the backup you want to load. Click Open. The data will be restored according to the selected backup. Note: To restore data, you have to be a user with administrator privilege for BluOnLine. Data saved after the last backup will be overwritten jh 25 of 27

26 10 Term explanations 10.1 Parameter Parameter set: Autostart mode: Automatic timer: Button Start/Button Stop: Button programming mode: Saved parameters build together a parameter set If this mode is activated, the device will switch on as soon as it is plugged in. If this mode is activated, the device will switch itself on at the given times. It will not switch off automatically. If these options are activated, the device can be switched on and off using the built-in button. The built-in button can be used to select the nominal temperature and the temperature source. This function can be deactivated to prevent unauthorized alteration Data logger SI (internal sensor): SE (external sensor): Temperature of the heating element Temperature of the sensor 10.3 Service Operating mode: Runtime: Control bit for checking purposes Runtime of the current process in minutes 10.4 Manage users The user role defines what authorization each user holds. Administrator: User role with complete authorization Standard user: User role with limited authorization (i.e. cannot delete parameter sets for example) jh 26 of 27

27 11 Trouble-shooting Problem Possible reason Solution The software cannot be started after the installation or does not work properly. Error while receiving data from device Data bank was not started.
