1 Software Release Notes 5 June, 2009 VERSION 4.0.RC9 Copyright 2009 / Abekas, Incorporated Previous Version: 3.5 RC2 Background This document accompanies the ClipStoreMXc System Software from the Abekas FTP download site. This new software is used to update the main operating software in the ClipStoreMXc Digital Disk Recorder. Your ClipStoreMXc MUST have V4.0 software or higher in order to install V4.0 Software. This V4.0 Software release contains software bug fixes and new features (see page 23 for a listing). The FPGA firmware on the Sequoia Video/Key/Audio board MUST also be updated to Version 4434 in order to use V4.0 Software. Please refer to the Installation instructions below. Be sure to read this entire document before starting, to make sure you understand the procedure. The firmware and software installation procedure will take approximately minutes to perform with a fast (DSL) internet connection; longer with slower internet connection. PDF Active Links Open the original PDF file for this document on the ClipStoreMXc itself while it s connected to the Internet; this will make updating MUCH easier, since the underlined links provided in this document (which download software components) can be clicked for immediate access to the given web page. 22 New Features & Enhancements The following table details the new features in Version 4.0 Software. The table is sorted according to the Feature Type column. # Feature Type Synopsis 1. Import/Export New Features Color Change and minor modification to the Import/Export GUI The color scheme and the overall layout of the Import/Export GUI has been changed and streamlined in the Import/Export GUI to make operations a bit easier and more user-friendly. 2. NetPanel Color Change in NetPanel GUI Some background elements in the GUI which used to be light blue have been changed to medium gray, for better visual appearance. 3. Playback 4. RS422 Control Play Repeat button Loop and Ping-Pong behavior change In the NetPanel GUI, the play repeat button toggles between Repeat OFF, Ping-Pong and Loop settings; another toggle will take it back to the Repeat OFF setting. In version 4.0 software, the toggle of this play repeat button is changed during clip playback, so the user may toggle the Loop or the Play Repeat directly to the Repeat OFF setting. This is most important when the user wishes to toggle OFF the Ping- Pong setting. Before this software change, the user had to toggle the button twice (once to Loop and another to OFF ). With this change, the user now simply clicks the play repeat button once to obtain the OFF setting no matter whether Ping-Pong or Loop is being used. Odetics protocol support The ClipStoreMXc RS422 Slave serial control port now supports Odetics protocol. To select this control protocol: In the NetPanel GUI, click SETUP button. Click the PROTOCOL softkey. Click the ODETICS softkey. The Slave RS422 serial control port now is assigned Odetics protocol. Ensure the external remote control device is also using Odetics protocol. 23 Software Bug Fixes Version 4.0-RC9 Software Release Notes The following table details the bug fixes made in Version 4.0 Software, for the bugs found in Version 3.2 and later versions of software. The table is sorted according to the Bug Type column. # Bug Type Synopsis 1. Auto Edit 2. Bypass 3. Bypass 4. Import / Export 5. Import / Export 6. Import / Export 7. Import / Export 8. Import / Export 9. Import / Export 10. Import / Export 11. Import / Export Software Bug Fixes Auto-Edit into NEW CLIP from VTR to DDR with DDR selected This operation causes the new clip to be created, but the Auto-Edit aborts. Had the VTR been selected, then operation works properly. This bug is repaired; the Auto-Edit creates the new clip and performs the edit. Turn Bypass ON then OFF causes three green flashes on video output This happens even with locked video. This bug is repaired; the video now switches cleanly when Bypass is toggled ON then OFF. Turn Bypass ON then OFF with FIELD mode clip causes clip to seek backward The clip would seek backward by several frames. This bug did not happen in FRAME mode. This bug is repaired; the clip now remains in the same position when Bypass is toggled ON then OFF. Dropping files into Watch Folder with Import Enabled would not activate unless the Re-Import button is clicked. This bug is repaired; the import will begin as soon as the first file is fully copied into the watch folder. Import/Export utility does not always launch properly after ClipStoreMXc power-on The import/export paths cannot be used to navigate to new directories when this hang-up occurs. Must close the Import/Export utility and restart in order to recover. This usually happens after a power-on cycle. This bug is repaired; the Import/Export utility now launches properly. Import of Standard-Definition (SD) QuickTime MOV files broken The import of standard-definition MOV files was broken in an earlier beta release. This bug is repaired; SD MOV files now import properly. Import QuickTime MOV files with strange frame rates would not import Some third-party programs erroneously create MOV files with non-standard frame rates. For example, instead of a 24fps frame rate, the rate is reported in the MOV header as 24.02fps. When the ClipStoreMXc attempts to import such files, the import was aborted. This bug is repaired; the ClipStoreMXc now ignores the frame rate information in the header, and just imports such MOV files. Importing MOV files of 720/23.98p or 720/30p video would have audio not aligned with the video The audio would be mis-aligned with respect to the video. This bug is repaired; the ClipStoreMXc now aligns the audio properly with the imported video. Importing MOV files creates clip that is 1 frame short For example, a 5:00 MOV file creates a clip that is 4:29 in duration. This bug is repaired; the ClipStoreMXc now creates clips with the proper duration. Some MOV imports have H-shifted video This happened in rare circumstances; the video in the clip is shifted horizontally by a large amount. This bug is repaired; the ClipStoreMXc now creates clips without any H-shifts. The Auto Create Format pull-down displays incorrect formats when first used If you then clicked the down arrow, the correct format is displayed. This bug is repaired; the pull-down now displays all correct formats. 12. Import / Export Import of DPX files The import of this file format is now enabled. 13. Import / Export 14. Lance TDC NetPanel 16. Playback If FREEZE is ON when importing files, an error message is generated With FREEZE ON in main NetPanel GUI and an Import operation is performed, an error message was generated in the Import GUI which read: QT: Accelerated Import Error. This bug is repaired; the error message is no longer generated. Multi-Loop from Lance TDC-100: Would loop only one to three times The Multi-Point loop feature from the Lance TDC-100 causes clip playback in the ClipStoreMXc, and it should loop the clip forever; or at least until the Multi-Loop function is turned off. A bug in the ClipStoreMXc caused the looping to halt after one to three loops. This bug is repaired; the ClipStoreMXc will now loop until the TDC-100 operator halts the operation. Running NetPanel on remote computer GUI would not launch With NetPanel running on a remote web browser, the NePanel GUI would sometimes not launch. This bug is repaired; the GUI now launches. Play from Slider position was seeking to start of clip When the NetPanel GUI slider was used to position to a point within the clip, clicking the PLAY button would sometimes seeks to the start of the clip before starting playback. This bug is repaired; so the clip plays from the current slider position, without seeking to the start of the clip. Document Revised: 8:26 AM 2009 / Abekas, Incorporated Page 23 of 25
24 # Bug Type Synopsis 17. Playback 18. Playback 19. Playback 20. Playback 21. Playback 22. PBUS 23. PBUS 24. RSH Commands Software Bug Fixes Loop of clip with key track erroneously caused Past End of Key File error message. With a VKA clip loaded (clip with audio and key), and with the LOOP function turned ON, playing the clip past the loop point caused the above error message. This bug is repaired; this error message now does not appear. Ping-Pong playback of VKA clip during FIELD mode would cause clip to Loop instead With a VKA clip loaded (audio and key tracks), with the output mode set to FIELD mode, and the Ping-Pong play repeat enabled, the playback of the clip would actually Loop instead of Ping-Pong. If the clip is in FRAME mode, this bug does not occur. This bug is repaired; the clip now ping-pong repeats during FIELD output mode. Ping-Pong playback when parked at end of clipl With any clip loaded and the Ping-Pong play repeat enabled, the playback of the clip would actually play into black past the end of the clip. The Past End of Audio File error message is also displayed. This bug is repaired; the clip now ping-pong repeats, even when parked on the last frame. Exiting Loop near marked OUT point would replay loop one more time With a clip loaded and IN and OUT points marked and LOOP turned ON, clicking the LOOP button to disable play repeat when clip playback was near the OUT point (within three seconds) would cause the clip to loop one more time before actually exiting the loop play repeat. This bug is repaired; no matter how close to the OUT point the play repeat is turned OFF, the clip will not repeat one more time the clip will play forward to the end of the clip. Ping-Pong playback of FIELD mode clip repeats an extra frame of video at the OUT point With a FIELD-mode clip loaded and IN and OUT points marked and PING-PONG turned ON, there was an extra frame of repeated video at the turn-around OUT point. This bug is repaired; there is now no repeated frame of video. When exporting PBUS registry data, the export stops at item #099. If there are 100 or more items to export, any item above 99 would not export. This bug is repaired; any number of PBUS registry items are now exported. When controlling ClipStoreMXc via PBUS, a timeline play command is sometimes ignored This happens if the clip in ClipStoreMXc has played to its end point before the next play command is issued to ClipStoreMXc. This bug is repaired; the play timeline command is no longer ignored. RSH command for Auto-Edit The bug occurs only when editing from DDR to VTR via RSH command: When the DDR edit IN = ODD Frame#, then Auto Edit Source will be accurate on VTR recording When the DDR edit IN = EVEN Frame#, then Auto Edit Source will be +1 frame on VTR recording This bug is repaired; the Auto-Edit now occurs with frame accuracy. 25 Known Software Bugs & Issues Version 4.0-RC9 Software Release Notes The following table details the known software bugs and issues present in Version 4.0 Software. These bugs may be repaired in a future software release. The table is sorted according to the Bug Type column. # Bug Type Synopsis 1. END Lance TDC LTC Known Bugs and Issues Multi-Point Loop Play from Lance TDC-100 is unsupported Follow the instructions in the TDC-100 Operations Manual to setup a Multi-Point Loop using two registers in the TDC-100 Use FCN 8 to start. Use FCN 9 to play out of the multi-point loop. Notice the clip correctly plays from the Outer IN point thru the Inner loop IN point, and then loops back at the right moment when the Inner OUT point is reached; however, instead of looping back to the Inner IN point as it should, the ClipStoreMXc instead loops back to the Outer IN point. This requires adding Odetics protocol in the ClipStoreMXc to implement this feature. LTC Seek Algorithm is Broken With a clip that contains repeating LTC timecode, a goto or seek operation within the clip should seek to the second, third, fourth, etc. occurrence of the timecode value if the clip is already parked on that given value. For example, if LTC value appears three times in the clip, and the clip is parked at the first physical frame of the clip, the first goto operation to will seek to the first occurrence of While now parked at this first occurrence, performing another goto will seek to the second occurrence; performing another goto will then seek to the third occurrence. If yet another goto is issued, then the disk seeks back to the first occurrence. Since this algorithm is broken, the disk will not seek to the repeated timecode values. 3. Output Mode 23.98psF CineAdd 3:2 Output Mode is unsupported This output mode has been disabled in software. 4. RSH Commands Multi-LOOP command sent via RSH Under certain conditions, the multi-loop RSH command will only repeat the clip playback three times, and then stop. The standard continuous loop command works fine. Document Revised: 8:26 AM 2009 / Abekas, Incorporated Page 25 of 25
