1 Introduction The ServerView Update DVD Base package, in the following referred to as Update DVD Base for short, allows you to create a system-specific bootable USB stick for updating your PRIMERGY or PRIMEQUEST server(s) or CELSIUS workstation(s) with the latest firmware, server management software and driver software. Unlike the Update DVD, the Update DVD Base allows you to restrict the scope of available updates to the group of systems which you can explicitly select during the creation process of the USB stick or separately later on. This minimizes the required size of the USB stick. To select the update components and download them onto the bootable USB stick, the ServerView Content Collector (Content Collector for short) is used. Once created from the Update DVD Base, the USB stick offers the same usage modes as the Update DVD or a USB stick created from it, i.e. you can start the ServerView Update Manager Express from this USB stick. The scope of updates offered for selection by the Update Manager Express will then be restricted to the systems selected during USB stick creation. Depending on the status of the server that is to be updated, you have the following alternatives: Start Update Manager Express under a supported Windows Server or Linux operating system. If a supported Windows Server or Linux operating system with installed Java Runtime Environment version 7 or higher is running on your server, you should normally use this procedure. Start Update Manager Express after booting the server from the USB stick. Choose this procedure if there is no Java Runtime Environment or no supported operating system running on your server. See the "Local System Update for PRIMERGY Servers" manual for details. Update DVD Base and Content Collector 4

2.3 Creating the USB stick Creating the USB stick using the CLI Creating a bootable USB stick using the command line interface (CLI) consists of the following steps explained in detail below: 1. Preparing the USB stick. 2. Writing to the USB stick using the CreateUSBStick.bat script from the Update DVD Base Preparing the USB stick Before you can start the CreateUSBStick.bat script, you must first prepare the USB stick to meet the above requirements. Proceed as follows: 1. Connect the USB stick to your PC. 2. Start the diskpart tool in a command line (cmd.exe). Unlike the usual notation, drive letters in diskpart are not followed by a ":". Example: In diskpart, the notation "F" is used instead of "F:". a. Enter list disk to get a list of all disks. Identify the line representing your USB stick. Normally, you can identify the line representing your USB stick via the Size field of the line. Otherwise, compare the output lists the list disks command provides when the USB stick is connected and when the USB stick disconnected. Be sure to correctly identify the USB stick because all data will be removed from the selected device. b. Enter select disk <no.> to change to your USB stick. For <no.>, enter the number displayed in the first field of your selected line. c. Enter clean to remove all data and the partition structure from the USB stick. Note that this will be deleted without further prompting. d. Enter create partition primary to create one partition on the selected drive (USB stick). e. Enter list partition to detect the partition number assigned by the create partition primary command. Update DVD Base and Content Collector 13

2.3 Creating the USB stick Note that there must be only one single line in the output list of the list partition command. f. Enter select partition <no.> to define the partition as the current partition. <no.> is the number displayed in the output list of the list partition command. g. Enter detail partition to display all details of the new partition. The drive letter (e.g. "F") can be seen in the second output field. h. Enter exit to exit the diskpart tool. The new partition is in "raw" format, i.e. the partition does not yet have a file system set up. As the partition cannot be used in this state, it must be formatted into a FAT32 file system as described below. 3. Enter the format command to format the new drive into a FAT32 file system: In the following, for drive letters the usual notation (e.g. "F:") is mandatory. format <drive letter> /FS:FAT32 /Q Answer any questions asked by the program with [Enter]. Update DVD Base and Content Collector 14

2.3 Creating the USB stick Writing the USB stick After having prepared the USB stick as described above, you can run the CreateUSBStick.bat script to create the required data. You need to know the drive letter the system uses to refer to the USB stick. You have already got the drive letter in the preparation phase. This drive letter is still valid if the USB stick has not been removed since then. Proceed as follows: 1. Change to the Build-Tools directory, in the Update DVD Base directory. 2. Start the CreateUSBStick.bat script: CreateUSBStick.bat <drive letter> (e.g. CreateUSBStick.bat f:) The execution of the script will take some time because the files are copied from the USB-Stick-data to the USB stick. To keep you updated, the script outputs the following information in the order listed below: Formatting information Names of the files being copied to the USB stick In the case of large files it may take some time before the name of the next file is displayed. 3. Once the USB stick is ready to build the Firmware directory, you will be asked whether the Content Collector tool should be started now: Figure 4: Starting the Content Collector For details on using the Content Collector, see "ServerView Content Collector" on page 18. Update DVD Base and Content Collector 15

2.4 Creating an ISO image from the Update DVD Base 3. Create a manual or automated ISO image from the repository. Create a manual ISO image from the repository. Change the directory to <UpdateDVDBase>\Build-Tools and execute the following command: create_iso.exe -create_iso <repository_directory>. The <repository_directory> is the directory <UpdateDVDBase>\USB- Stick-data. The UPDATE_DVD.iso file will be generated in the current directory. Create an automated ISO image from the repository. Change the directory to <UpdateDVDBase>\Build-Tools and execute the following command: create_iso.exe -create_iso -auto <repository_directory>. The <repository_directory> is the directory <UpdateDVDBase>\USB- Stick-data. The UPDATE_DVD.iso file will be generated in the current directory. When booted with the Update_DVD.iso file the target system will be updated automatically without any user interaction Problems creating the image In some cases, e.g. if the creation of the ISO image has been manually interrupted by the user, the repository can be in an inconsistent state. In this instance the repository must be fixed so that it can be used to prepare a USB stick (or ISO image). Execute the following command to revert the repository to its normal state: create_iso.exe -prepare_usb <repository_directory>. Execute the following command to report an error: create_iso.exe -create_iso <repository_directory> >log_file. Send the log file Technical Support of Fujitsu as feedback. If you know that the Firmware directory does not exist or you are not sure whether it exists, please follow the example below. If there is no Firmware directory in your location it will be created automatically. Example java -jar ContentCollector.jar -repository C:/Users The Start page of the Content Collector wizard opens, see "Content Collector wizard" on page 25. The -repository option will preset a repository path for saving component values. Command line interface (CLI) mode One advantage of CLI mode is being able to run Content Collector from a scheduler (either Task Scheduler under Windows or Crontab Scheduler under Unix). Both the - repository and -auto options are required when running from a scheduler. While the Content Collector is running in CLI mode, output is displayed in the console window. Before the first Content Collector run in CLI mode (or any time you want to modify a configuration file), you should generate the configuration file config.xml, as follows: Run the Content Collector via GUI. Select systems and components. Click the Save configuration button in the last pane. The message Configuration saved is displayed. The configuration file config.xml is stored under: <desired_location>/firmware/tools/contentcollector The configuration file config.xml is always associated with a repository. o Start the Content Collector from the command line with the following command: java -jar <path_to_directory>/contentcollector.jar - repository <desired_loction> -auto Update DVD Base and Content Collector 21

3.2 Using the Content Collector Using a local repository In CLI mode you must specify the path to the Firmware directory or parent directory of the Firmware directory in which the configuration file is located under Firmware/Tools/ContentCollector. Running Content Collector in CLI mode is not possible if the configuration file config.xml does not exist or is not valid. As of Content Collector V1.4, you can use a local repository alongside the official Fujitsu repository at The address of the local repository must be set in the configuration file config.xml. The destination address must be equivalent to that of the globalflash directory from The repository must have the same structure and content as the official Fujitsu repository and must be provided by HTTP or HTTPS protocols. The configuration file config.xml must have been generated beforehand, during one of the previous Content Collector runs. The configuration file config.xml is stored under: <desired_location>/firmware/tools/contentcollector Any changes in the configuration file config.xml require a re-run of the Content Collector. Creating a repository for elcm offline update As of Content Collector V1.5, you can create a repository capable for running elcm offline updates. The following steps are required to perform an elcm offline update: 1. Open Windows PowerShell (or Microsoft CMD) with administrator rights. 2. 23 3.2 Using the Content Collector Testing a remote repository connection As of Content Collector V1.60, you can check whether connection to the remote repository is possible. The following steps are required to perform a connection check: 1. Generate the configuration file config.xml. If this file does not exist, the connection check cannot be performed. 2. Start the Content Collector from the command line with the following command: java -jar ContentCollector.jar -repository <desired_loction> -auto -canconnect The desired_location must be an existing path. The Content Collector starts in CLI mode and attempts to connect to the repository. The results are displayed in the console window. The Content Collector then closes. Selecting a download source As of Content Collector V1.70, you can specify the URL of the repository from which firmware will be downloaded. To use a custom repository URL, start the Content Collector in GUI mode. In the Locations page of the Content Collector wizard you can enter the desired repository URL, see "Content Collector wizard" on page 25. Creating an HCL-conformant repository As of Content Collector V1.70, you can create the local repository that conforms to the hardware compatibility list (HCL) located in the HCL file hclvmwareall.xml under support.ts.fujitsu.com/downloadmanager/globalflash/hclvmwareall.xml. The list of components available to download is filtered, so only components added to the HCL file are eligible for downloading. Update DVD Base and Content Collector 23

3.2 Using the Content Collector There are two methods for creating the HCL-conformant repository: o o Creating an HCL-conformant repository using a GUI The following steps are required to create an HCL-conformant repository: 1. Start the Content Collector via GUI. 2. In the Locations page of the Content Collector wizard you can activate the Use HCL-conformant repository checkbox to create the HCL-conformant repository, see "Content Collector wizard" on page In the Select components page you can select the components you want the Content Collector to download. The list of components displayed on the Select components page is limited to components that are only available in the hclvmwareall.xml file. Information as to whether you chose to create an HCL-conformant repository is saved to the configuration file config.xml. So, when the Content Collector is run again and a user repository containing this config.xml file is used, the checkbox is activated by default. Creating an HCL-conformant repository using the command line Start the Content Collector from the command line with the following command: java -jar ContentCollector.jar -hclconform The Start page of the Content Collector wizard opens. In the Locations page of the Content Collector wizard, the Use HCL-conformant repository checkbox is automatically activated, see "Content Collector wizard" on page 25. The -hclconform option can be used with the -repository <desired_location> option, which provides the location of the local repository, and with the -elcm option, which creates a repository for the elcm offline update. If you wish to use an HCL-conformant repository (including a repository for an elcm offline update) in CLI mode, a configuration file config.xml must already exist or be generated beforehand using the GUI. Start the Content Collector from the command line with the following command: java -jar ContentCollector.jar -repository <desired_ loction> -auto -hclconform The -hclconform option forces the Content Collector to create an HCLconformant repository even if the HCL-conformant repository was marked as "false" in the configuration file config.xml used. Update DVD Base and Content Collector 24

3.2 Using the Content Collector Content Collector wizard After starting the Content Collector, the Start page of the Content Collector wizard opens.
