The program requires two tablets to utilize the program; one tablet each for the facilitator and student. This guide will show you how to install the RoboKind Companion application for ipad tablets. We will also teach you how to use the app and troubleshoot. RoboKind recommends that you download the latest update of the app and the latest software update on your ipad tablet for full functionality. The RoboKind Companion app is supported by ipad with ios 11.3 or higher. 1

2 Installing and Updating the RoboKind Companion App (ipad Only) To install the RoboKind Companion tablet app on your ipad device: 1. You will need an App Store account and an Internet connection. 2. Press the App Store. 3. Click the search icon (it is a magnifying lens) and search for RoboKind Companion. Click install. To update the RoboKind Companion tablet app on your ipad device: 1. Open the App Store. 2. Click on Updates. 3. Click the Update button that should be next to the RoboKind Companion icon. Please note that you will not see an update option if the tablet has the newest version installed. Using the RoboKind Companion App (ipad Only) 1. First ensure that you know your RoboKind Web Portal credentials as you will need them for the RoboKind Companion app. 2. Open the RoboKind Companion app. 3. On the Login Screen, use your RoboKind Web Portal credentials to login. Click the Login button. Login screen 4. You will need to have at least 3 gigabytes (GB) of disk space available in order for the app initialize and download. Please make sure that the Internet connection is established. On subsequent logins, the app will not need to reinitialize itself unless there is a content update. 2

3 5. Once the app is finished initializing it will take you to the Robot Connection Screen. Initializing screen Robot Connection Screen 6. From this screen you can log out, or you can try to connect to the robot. 7. To connect to the robot make sure that the tablet and the robot are on the same WiFi network. At this time the tablets will not need Internet access. 8. Go to R25 chest screen on the robot and click Utilities and then Connect Tablet. A QR code will display. 9. On the tablet from the robot connection screen, press Scan QR. 10. The app will ask for permission to the camera if it doesn t already have it. Please grant permission. Note that if you do not then you will have to enter the IP Address manually. 11. Use the tablet camera to look at the chest screen with the QR code. If the QR code does not appear or if the robot does not connect, please first check that the robot is connected to the network, has an IP address, and that the R25 Robot Series: Network Setup Guide has been followed. 12. If the QR Code could not be scanned or fails to connect, click in the text box and input the robot s IP Address manually. 13. To get the robot s IP address, look at the robot chest screen. If you do not see the IP address then press Utilities from the Home Screen, then press Network, and finally press Network Info. On that page, there are two buttons marked Wired and WiFi. Please select the correct network type you are using and that the tablets are on. Find the ipv4 address. That is the address you can use to connect to the robot. If that is missing from both screens then please consult the R25 Robot Series: Network Setup Guide first and then contact RoboKind Support. 14. On each of the tablets, select your role to be either Student or Facilitator by pressing the Role button. The tablet will default to a Facilitator role if nothing is selected. 3

4 15. On the Facilitator tablet, press Begin. The Student tablet will have a gray screen. Facilitator Tablet Student Tablet 16. This will teach the student and also ask them questions. Data is recorded. 18. You can also select Teach or Practice : a. Teach will teach the lesson without asking questions. b. Practice will ask questions only. A Note On Tablet Apps: 1. The RoboKind Companion app requires the robot to have Legacy Mode disabled while the older robots4autism application does need Legacy Mode to be enabled. Legacy Mode is enabled by default post update. 2. To enable or disable Legacy Mode, go to the robot chest screen. From the home screen press Utilities and then press Tablet Video. Enable or Disable as needed. You will have to reboot the robot to finish enabling or disabling Legacy Mode. 4

5 Using the robots4autism App (Robot Legacy Mode Enabled) Make sure that the tablets and the robot are on the same WiFi network. If they are not on the same network, the program will not work. The tablets must communicate with the robot. To begin: 1. Select the Robot button on the tablet by matching the IP address with the robot s. It may take about 10 seconds for it to appear. 2. Select the Role of the tablet and press the Connect button on the tablet. 3. On the Facilitator tablet, press Begin. The Student tablet will have a gray screen. 4. Select the Classroom Select the Facilitator Select the Student Select the Module. 5. You can select the lesson to begin. This will teach the student and also ask them questions. Data is recorded. 6. You can also select Teach or Practice : a. Teach will teach the lesson without asking questions. b. Practice will ask questions, but will not record the data. If the IP address doesn t show: 1. Select the Robot button and press the button to scan the QR code. 2. On the robot, press Utilities Connect Tablet, and use the tablet like a bar code scanner. If the QR code scan doesn t work or you receive an error: 1. Make sure that you are on the same WiFi network. 2. Try restarting the robot and the tablets. 3. Enter the IP Address manually by pressing on the robots4autism logo and pressing OK. The password will be blank, unless your administrator changed it. 4. Click on the box to Enable Manual IP. Make sure to Save Settings down at the bottom. 5. After your settings are saved, press the Home Page button to go back to the Main Menu. 6. Enter the robot s IP address in the new field. 7. Select the Role and press Connect. Note: To set a password on the tablet, enter it in the Device Unlock Password field and press Save Settings. 5

6 Guided Access Mode Guided Access mode locks the ipad into a single app that is opened. This can be helpful for keeping students on task and minimizing distractions on the tablet. To enable Guided Access: 1. Open the Settings app and go to the General section. 2. Press the Accessibility button and scroll until you see Guided Access and press the button. 3. Turn on the feature by clicking the switch. 4. Set a passcode. (This passcode may be different from your ipad unlock passcode.) To use Guided Access: 1. When you open the app for your student, triple click the home button. 2. Press the Start button. 3. Enter your passcode when prompted to start. You may be asked to enter your passcode twice to confirm. 4. To end Guided Access, triple click the home button and enter passcode. 5. Press the End button.
