3 1 Introduction Spirent Communications AVS is a software and hardware system for use in measuring the end to end quality of mobile devices. The installation package will have installed an icon onto the desktop as below, double click this to launch the AVS application. 3 Inside the AVS application The front screen is deliberately uncluttered for use in a manufacturing and industrial environment. 4 Immediately visible and available are About AVS where license information and updates are available, and Start Test Settings and file sources are accessed by use of key shortcuts. 4 Settings The main settings window can be accessed by pressing Ctrl + Alt + S concurrently. 5 Verify the setting and click OK. Note that these settings are calibration dependent. The following window appears. 6 Figure 4-3 Main Settings Window This example shows settings for P.863 POLQA (as shown by the checked radio button). At the top of the window, there is an update utility. Number of samples This is the number of samples that will be measured and that data used to calculate MOS and insertion loss. Number of samples to discard It has been seen that the call test set can require two samples of settling time. These are discarded. MetaData Field 1, 2, and 3 These are custom fields that can be populated with any string. This is used in the reporting part of AVS Copyright Spirent Communications, Inc

8 4.1 Edit Handset Directory Figure 4-5 Handset Directory The handset directory is where manufactures and models of devices can be added and deleted. After the device has been tested, the DUT can be selected there. 4.2 View summary Figure 4-6 View Tested devices The summary button shows all devices that have been tested since the result_summary file was last emptied. 9 4.3 Edit pass thresholds Figure 4-7 Edit Pass Threshold Window The Edit pass threshold windows allows you to widen or tighten the pass fail limits. It also allows for Fail, OK, Good limits. In the example above, for downlink MOS (receiver) below 2.0 is a fail, between 2.0 and 3.0 is OK, above 3.0 is good. 5 Source files Figure 5-1 Source File Window The source file window can be found by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F at the same time. CAUTION. Changing these files can have undesirable effects. The mouth source file is sent to the artificial mouth via the AVS voice probe. 10 The CMU source file is what is sent OTA to the DUT and played through the receiver. The ear reference file is the comparison for the downlink signal at the AVS voice probe. Copyright Spirent Communications, Inc

11 6 Result files 6.1 Individual data files Figure 6-1 Results File The result files for individual tests can be found under My Documents, AVS_Output, Year, Month. The folders after are names by IMEI-date-time. Figure 6-2 Folder Structure In the folder structure above you can see the CMU settings, DUT settings and summary for that test. In the Channel 1, and Channel 2 folder, you will find the recordings used to calculate the MOS score. Copyright Spirent Communications, Inc

12 6.2 Grouped data Figure 6-3 Grouped Data The two excel files above collect the data as devices are tested. The summary _results file contains the data from all the devices. There will also be a separate excel file for each model and make tested. Copyright Spirent Communications, Inc
