WEEK 1 and 2 LEARNING OBJECTIVE (NATIONAL CURRICULUM OR CHRIS QUIGLY) Number Place Value Recognise the place value of each digit in a fourdigit number. (thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones) INTENDED OUTCOME Children to use visual representation to show the value of each digit in a 2, 3, or 4 digit number. This will be done by using equipment, diagrams and place value charts CROSS-CURRICULAR LINKS Children to also partition numbers so each value is clear Place the number in a place value chart to show each digit s value clearly. Read and write numbers up to 4 digits by using knowledge of place value Order and compare numbers beyond Children to use their knowledge of place value to look at the size of numbers. Children to order sets of numbers after reading them, smallest to largest and vice versa Find 1000 more or less than a given number. Children able to use mental methods to find 10,100 or 1000 less or more than a given number. Look at which digit changes using the pace value chart and what would happen when you cross the 10,100 or 1000 barrier
Round any number to nearest 10,100 and and 4 Addition and Subtraction Solve problems, including missing number problems, using number facts, place value and more complex addition and subtraction. Children able to round 2 digit, 3 digit and 4 digit to any given 10, 100 and Children to use scales to help see which number the number is closest to and round. Look at looking the different place value columns. Introduce adding single and 2 digit number mentally and in context. Solve missing number question of small digits using the inverse when needed. Use reasoning of small and big number s to get the total. Add and subtract numbers mentally, including: - A three-digit number and ones. - A three-digit number and tens. - A three-digit number and hundreds. Children to add digits using a number line. Children to partition and add in jumps of H,T or U ( looking at the size of the number) Children to subtract using a number line. Children to partition and subtract in jumps of H,T or U ( looking at the size of the number) If HAPs are secure then move onto columnar addition and subtraction but the numbers are still partitioned.
5 and 6 Multiplication and Division.Use place value, known and derived facts to multiply and divide mentally, including: multiplying by 0 and 1; dividing by 1; multiplying together three numbers. Recognise and use factor pairs and commutatively in mental calculations Children to multiply 1,2 and 3 digit numbers by 10 and 100. Children to use place value charts to show the movement of numbers Children to divide 1,2 and 3 digit numbers by 10 and 100. Children to use place value charts to show the movement of numbers Count in regular intervals and apply times tables facts. Doubling and halving numbers (x2 and inverse relationship. Sentences to show inverse. To multiply and divide using the number line method. Small jumps to start with.
7 ASSESSEMENT HALF TERM Fraction Recap halves and quarters of objects. 8 Identify what fraction on the objects/shape has been shaded. Adding fractions to make a whole focus on images 9 Geometry Properties of 2d shapes, regular Look at the shapes and recap the names. Introduce the different properties that you may want to talk about which will help you describe the shapecompare two shapes an describe what properties they have- similar and different. Naming 3d shapes and properties. What is a 3d shape? Children to understand the clear difference. Introduce a 3D shape- what two shapes is it made of and then using these, start
helping the children to name the shapes. Name and describe the properties of each 3D shape. 10 Measures Length in cm and m. To read and measure. Look at what equipment is used to measure Estimate and accurately measure Read and draw lengths accurately Weight and capacity. To read and complete scales. 11 Statistics To read and understand bar charts. Label the axis, read the x and y axis, workout the intervals for when you are reading. To read and understand pictograms. Look at the column used. Work out what each symbol means and what number it represents. Using the images how can you have half and quarter of the whole number. 12 ASSESESMENT 13 and 14 Christmas Christmas theme. Co-ordinates how to read- show the rhyme used. Simple word problems (one step) Time to address misconceptions. Investigations.
