For those enterprises that have made DB2 on System z and System i servers the cornerstone of their On Demand Business solution, DB2 Connect provides application enablement and a robust, highly scalable communications infrastructure for connecting Web, Windows, UNIX, Linux, and mobile applications to data. Moving to DB2 Connect 9.7, you can help you improve the productivity of your programmers by taking advantage of the enhancements to DB2's native development languages as well as increased depth of language support. DB2 Connect 9.7 now includes support for SQL replication and federation with both DB2 on Linux, UNIX and Windows, and with Informix Dynamic Server as well as with Web services. Description IBM DB2 Connect 9.7 provides fast and robust connectivity to IBM DB2 databases deployed on either System z and System i. DB2 Connect has a of DB2 Connect server products to best meet your company's needs. A DB2 Connect server is a connectivity server that concentrates and manages connections from multiple desktop clients and Web applications to DB2 servers running on IBM System z or IBM System i servers. DB2 for System i, DB2 for System z, and DB2 for VSE and VM databases continue to be the systems of choice for managing the most critical data for the world's largest organizations. While System z and System i databases manage the data, there is a great demand to integrate this data with applications running on Linux, UNIX, and Windows workstations. DB2 Connect servers enable local and remote client applications to create, update, control, and manage DB2 databases and host systems using: Structured Query Language (SQL) DB2 APIs Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) SQLJ (embedded SQL for Java) DB2 call level interface (CLI) Ruby on Rails purequery PHP Perl Application development enhancements Significant application development enhancements are added to DB These enhancements will help both existing DB2 applications to be built and modified IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2

3 quicker, and also allow developers with multiple SQL language skills to work easily with DB2. A key focus of DB2 9.7 has been to make it easier to support a robust stored procedure and trigger language in a shorter amount of time. The enhancements include expanded support for implicit casting, the creation of modules, new functions, and a range of new data types. Module and package creation allows developers to bundle and deploy groups of procedures, functions, and variables. DB2 9.7 introduces new data type support for NUMBER, VARCHAR2, and DATE with time component. Alternative SQL language syntax is supported including alternative SQL language syntax for DELETE statements, the RID_BIT scalar function, and the FOR UPDATE clause for SELECT INTO statements. Alternative SQL syntax such as varying outer join methods is now supported. A new scripting and command line development tool, CLPPlus, provides support for dynamically creating, editing, and running SQL statements and scripts. Accessing IBM database management systems (DB2 and Informix) is easier than ever. The common IBM data server clients and drivers are enhanced as are the IBM Database Add-Ins for Visual Studio 2008 and purequery support. In addition to federating data from DB2 and IDS databases, DB2 Connect 9.7 now supports Web services through federation. Security enhancements With the of both internal and external security threats growing, it is important that data security can be separated from a DBA's management of critical systems. Advances in separation of duties lets DBAs maintain full control over database operation, without any access to the data. You can also easily isolate all security and auditing control into the hands of a separate security administrator. Security has further been simplified with new groups making application development privileges as well as workload management simpler. Additionally, security functionality has been extended with AES encryption, Transport Layer Security (TLS), and additional Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) client support. Data Studio DB2 Connect 9.7 works with the IBM Optim development and administration tools. IBM Optim solutions help organizations support business growth without growing costs by managing today's heterogeneous data environments from requirements to retirement. Trends toward small team development, where each team member assumes multiple roles, call for more flexibility in development environments. Optim solutions are addressing those requirements providing more and more plug-in capabilities to our common Eclipse base. DB2 Connect 9.7 includes entitlement for Data Studio and also fully supports Optim Developer, a separately purchased product. DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition is a combination of DB2 Connect server and DB2 software designed to address the needs of organizations that require robust connectivity from a variety of desktop systems to System z and System i database servers. Data Server Client software is deployed on desktop systems and provides API drivers that connect client/server applications running on these desktop systems to a DB2 Connect server. Designed to provide connectivity for client/server applications in large-scale, demanding environments, DB2 Connect server provides connection pooling and connection concentrator functions to maximize application availability while minimizing System z and System i resources. License charges for DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition are based on the of users of the product. Two types of licensing users are provided, concurrent users and authorized users, and they are each sold in packs of 25 users. The concurrent user licensing model addresses the needs of two-tier client/server applications. The authorized user licensing model can be applied to any environment provided the identity of each user is well known. However, since charges for DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition are based on the of users and because determining the of actual users in mobile and Web-based applications is very difficult or even impossible, DB2 Connect Application Server Edition and DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition are preferred licensing options for such environments. DB2 Connect Application Server Edition DB2 Connect Application Server Edition is identical to the DB2 Connect Enterprise Server in its technology. Just like the DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition, it is designed for large-scale, demanding environments. However, its licensing terms and conditions are meant to address specific needs of multitier client/server applications as well as applications that utilize Web technologies. DB2 Connect Application Server Edition license charges are based on the size or the of Processor Value Units available to the application servers where the application is running. License charges are not affected by the of users of the application, the size of the DB2 Connect server itself, or the size of the System z or System i database server. DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for System z DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition is ideal for organizations with extensive usage of DB2 Connect, especially where multiple applications are involved. This product provides program code of the DB2 Connect Personal Edition as well as program code identical to the DB2 Connect Application Server Edition for unlimited deployment throughout an organization. DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition license fees are based on the size of the DB2 System z server (measured in MSUs) and are not affected by either the of processors available to the DB2 Connect servers or the of processors available to application servers where the application is running. This makes DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition an ideal choice for organizations where multiple applications are utilizing DB2 Connect, or organizations with a mix of two-tier, multitier client/server, Web-based, and mobile applications. DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for System i DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition is ideal for organizations with extensive usage of DB2 Connect, especially where multiple applications are involved. Where the production DB2 subsystem is part of a DB2 Data Sharing Group, only one host server entitlement is required for all DB2 subsystems that are a part of the DB2 Data Sharing Group.
