1 Software Announcement June 13, 2006 IBM Workplace 2.6 enables open standards and international forms creation Overview IBM Workplace V2.6 delivers a security-rich, dynamic, and intelligent front-end to On Demand Business processes. IBM Workplace consists of the server, designer, and client viewer products that together enable the creation, deployment, and streamlining of XML forms-based processes. By leveraging open standards to integrate an intelligent user interface with high-value, back-end systems, IBM Workplace provides public and private sector organizations with security-rich forms that leverage existing sources and systems to help better serve customers and increase operational efficiency. IBM Workplace comes with three products: IBM Workplace Viewer V2.6 is a feature-rich desktop application used to view, fill, sign, submit, and route e-forms. It functions on the desktop or within a browser and enables full connectivity with real-time integration using Web services. The open-standards framework of IBM Workplace lets IBM Workplace Viewer operate in portal or stand-alone environments, in online or offline modes, and as a plug-in for thin or rich-client browsers. IBM Workplace Designer V2.6 is an easy-to-use WYSIWYG e-form design environment based on the Eclipse open-source framework that supports the drag-and-drop creation of precision forms in multiple languages with an open and accessible, XML-schema-derived data model. IBM Workplace Designer leverages the X open standard to deliver advanced forms-based business process automation solutions that integrate seamlessly across lines of business applications and IT infrastructure. IBM Workplace Server V2.6 enables the creation and delivery of XML forms applications. It delivers a common, open interface to enable integration of e-forms data with server-side applications using industry-standard XML schemas. It also delivers a true zero-footprint solution, providing e-forms to external users quickly and efficiently within a browser and without requiring additional downloads or plug-ins. IBM Workplace Server delivers a low-administration solution for data-capture requirements while supporting precise viewing and printing, automated validation, and the security capabilities of XML e-forms. IBM Workplace V2.6 helps reduce development costs through support of the Eclipse open-source framework, providing a standardized development platform from front-end form to back-end system development. And by supporting form multilanguage form development and delivery, business forms can be extended to clients and trading partners across the globe.
