1 P2000 Commend Interface Option Product Bulletin Code No. LIT Software Release 3.14 Issued November 30, 2015 Johnson Controls offers a purchase option that enables the P2000 Security Management System (SMS) to integrate with a Commend intercom system. Using the Commend integration, P2000 operators can: Monitor intercom call requests and answer calls from an intercom station (at the master station) Sort the list of call requests by request time, priority, status, or name View intercom-related alarms on the P2000 Alarm Monitor and respond accordingly, such as acknowledging the alarm View intercom station locations and status information on the Real Time Map Audit intercom transactions and P2000 user actions via P2000 reports View intercom device status using the P2000 System Status application A Commend intercom system consists of a Commend intercom server, an intercom master station (located near a P2000 workstation and operator), and two or more intercom stations. Refer to the QuickLIT website for the most up-to-date version of this document. The P2000 system supports the following Commend intercom models: GE 300 GE 800 Any model compatible with the ICX protocol, Version 1.1/0910 The P2000 Interface service resides on the P2000 server and provides communication between the P2000 SMS and the Commend intercom system. See Figure 1. The P2000 intercom interface service allows the P2000 system to obtain status information whenever the state of an intercom station changes and to control incoming call requests. Specific transactions that occur at the intercom stations can trigger a predefined response using the P2000 Event application (when configured in advance). All intercom station transactions can be saved in the P2000 Transaction History database, and reports can be generated from the database. Table 1: Features and Benefits (Part 1 of 2) Features Benefits P2000 Integration Adds an additional layer of security by integrating the intercom system into the overall security system. Monitoring and Control of Incoming Call Requests Location Identification Triggering and Responding to Events Enable the P2000 operator to select any call in the queue and connect the intercom master station to the calling intercom station. When connected, the P2000 operator can place the call on hold or disconnect it once the call is completed. Enables you to use intuitive maps on the P2000 system to view the exact location and status of configured intercom stations. If the status of an intercom station changes, the P2000 Real Time Map shows the state change and the location of the intercom station. When the P2000 operator receives a call request for an intercom station, the icon representing that intercom station flashes on the P2000 Real Time Map; the P2000 operator can then right-click the flashing icon and connect or disconnect the call. Allows the Commend intercom system hardware to trigger or respond to events under the control of the P2000 Event application. For example, when someone presses the Call button on a Commend intercom station, the P2000 SMS can turn on a camera at that location and begin recording 1. 2 Commend Substation Table 1: Features and Benefits (Part 2 of 2) Features (Continued) Reporting Support of Commend Outputs and Alarm Features Benefits Allows storage of all intercom transactions and generation of reports that list all intercom transactions from the P2000 Transaction History database. Lets a P2000 operator activate or reset outputs (for example, activate an alarm or turn on a light) configured for an intercom station in the Commend intercom system. These outputs can be activated or reset when a P2000 operator connects to an intercom station or from the icon for the intercom station on the P2000 Real Time Map. 1. Requires the P2000 Security Management System Video Management System Integration option. Refer to the P2000 Security Management System DVR/VMS Integration Catalog Page (LIT ) for additional information. Control Real Time Monitoring Real Time Map Monitoring and Control P2000 Server ( Interface Service) Wide Area Network IP Network Configured on the P2000 Server as an Exchange Commend Server Configured on the P2000 Server as a Master Configured on the P2000 Server as a Sub-, Global, or Group P2000 Workstation Located Together Figure 1: P2000 and Commend Integration Architecture 2 P2000 Commend Interface Option Product Bulletin
3 Terminology P2000 Server The main computer in a P2000 SMS. The P2000 server runs the P2000 system software, stores database information, and communicates with the other components of the system. P2000 Workstation A computer running the P2000 workstation software. When a P2000 SMS is integrated with a Commend intercom system, the intercom master station is usually located near a P2000 workstation and P2000 operator. Commend Server An intercom server from Commend, such as the GE 800 and GE 300, that can communicate over an IP network without additional hardware. Older Commend intercom servers require a network interface to communicate over IP. When integrated with a P2000 SMS, the Commend intercom server is configured on the P2000 Server as an intercom exchange. P2000 Interface Service A service that runs on a P2000 server and provides communications between the P2000 SMS and the components of an intercom system. Exchange The name for a Commend server when configured in a P2000 SMS. You must configure the intercom exchange before you can configure any of the intercom stations, including the intercom master station. A general term that covers all Commend intercom terminals. In order for the P2000 SMS to monitor and control a Commend intercom terminal, you must configure it on the P2000 server. Master A Commend intercom station, located near a P2000 workstation, that receives calls from other stations. Sub- A Commend intercom station that can send call requests only to its master station. Global A Commend intercom station that can send call requests to more than one master station. Group Multiple intercom stations to which the intercom master station can connect, allowing the intercom/p2000 operator to broadcast messages. over IP (IoIP ) A proprietary protocol from Commend for networking intercom system components using an audio bandwidth of 7 khz. Other telephony technologies, including Voice over IP (VoIP), generally use an audio bandwidth of 3.4 khz. P2000 Real Time Map A map layout of a facility that displays the current status of defined elements. When a defined element changes state, the icon for that element on the P2000 Real Time Map also changes. P2000 Real Time List A time-stamped text display of system transactions as they occur. A P2000 operator can monitor all transactions or just a desired subset of transactions, such as transactions. P2000 Event Application A P2000 feature that lets you configure an automatic response (action) to a specific occurrence (trigger). An event has one trigger and one or more actions. P2000 Transaction History Database A record storage of all P2000 system transactions. Reports can be run from the Transaction History Database using filters to show just the desired information. Installation and Configuration Commend intercom servers must be configured and licensed to communicate over an IP network; this is required for integration into a P2000 SMS. The Commend intercom system must be installed, configured, and licensed before it is integrated into the P2000 SMS. The Commend Interface Option must be licensed on the P2000 server; if not, the two systems will not be able to communicate. Once a Commend intercom system is integrated into a P2000 SMS, P2000 operators can control the intercom from a P2000 workstation located near a Commend intercom station configured as the master station. When configuring an intercom exchange or an intercom station using the P2000 server, the configuration settings must match the settings established for those devices on the Commend intercom system. If the settings for those devices are changed on the Commend intercom system, they must also be changed on the P2000 server. Controlling Incoming Call Requests P2000 operators can monitor incoming intercom call requests to the master station by using a P2000 workstation, enabling them to connect to the appropriate station making the call. If the intercom call request comes from an intercom station configured for outputs, then the P2000 operator can activate or reset an output, as needed. P2000 Commend Interface Option Product Bulletin 3
4 P2000 operators can control intercom call requests by using either the P2000 Control window (see Figure 2) or the P2000 Real Time Map (see Figure 3). Transactions Once a Commend intercom system is integrated into a P2000 SMS, all Commend intercom system transactions are displayed on the P2000 Real Time List. As the status of a configured intercom station changes, corresponding related messages are generated and displayed on the P2000 Real Time List. When is selected here... Figure 2: Control Components Location Identification Once a Commend intercom system is integrated into a P2000 SMS, you can configure the P2000 Real Time Map with a map of the facility to easily determine the location and status of configured intercom stations....real-time intercom transactions appear here. Figure 4: Messages on the Real Time List Figure 3: Control with the Real Time Map If the status of an intercom station changes, the P2000 Real Time Map shows the state change and the location of the affected intercom station. When the Commend master station receives a call request from an intercom station, for example, the icon representing that intercom station flashes on the P2000 Real Time Map; the operator can right-click the flashing icon and connect or disconnect the call. Transactions that are configured as alarm level by the Commend system also display on the P2000 Alarm Monitor. Events Using the P2000 Event application, P2000 operators can configure the software to perform an action based on a trigger from the Commend system hardware and other hardware connected to the P2000 Security Management System. For example, if an intercom station call request comes from a configured intercom station to the Commend master station (the trigger), in a P2000 DVR Integration scenario, the image from a camera at the location of the intercom station making the call request could be displayed for the P2000 operator (action) and the camera could begin recording (second action). See Figure 5. This allows the P2000 operator to see what is happening at the location of the call request and record any noteworthy events, if necessary, for follow-up. Note: You must configure this trigger and response in advance using the P2000 Event application for these actions to happen automatically. 4 P2000 Commend Interface Option Product Bulletin
