2 Ladies and gentlemen, A most cordial welcome to today s press conference here in Nuremberg at the SPS/IPC/Drives fair. I would like to introduce you today to our innovations in the field of Industrial Controls: replacement of our Sirius Modular System. Page 2 Enhanced customer competitiveness First of all, I would like to explain to you what my Control Components Business Segment stands for: CC stands for enhanced Customer Competitiveness, meaning that we wish our products to improve the competitive standing of our customers and to jointly meet the challenges of our times. Our new Sirius Industrial Controls Generation will be used by OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to speed up their planning and configuration work, to simplify assembly and mounting and to reduce the amount of wiring work required. We also focused on life cycle costs; which play a major role for machine and plant operators. Over the years, increased reliability, simplified maintenance costs, detailed and clear diagnostic information all helped to create significant value added. And, as Mr. Kaul mentioned earlier, our products help protect the environment not only by the way they are made from state-of-the-art materials and in energyoptimized manufacturing facilities but also by providing major green advantages to the customer in the form of lower power dissipation and reduced space requirements. As you will appreciate, we are proud to say that after over a century of industrial control development we still manage to create a significant competitive advantage for our customers. Allow me to explain to you with the following illustrations just how we achieve this. Page 3 Requirements of machine manufacturers and control panel assemblers For machine builders and, in particular, control cabinet assemblers, Sirius means less effort with configuration, assembly and testing. We support the end user with our consistent system approach. Integrated feeder systems for all devices and plugin technology that make for flexible combination of the individual devices. More performance without increasing the design width saves space in the control panel. 2/8

3 Moreover, fewer parts are required because the components feature a wide range of integrated functions. Thus product variant diversity has been reduced as the same accessories range can be used for both sizes. In terms of efficiency in the control cabinet, reducing the power dissipation up to ten percent also has a major impact. Innovative contact materials reduce the contact resistance in the main circuit. Waste heat developing inside the control cabinet is reduced by the new electronic control inside the contactor coils, optimized bimetal strips in the protective devices or alternatively by means of electronic current sensing. Thanks to the increased power density, minor switching devices are able to take on tasks which previously required larger ones. This brings down the size of the control cabinet, allowing both air conditioning systems and power supplies to be designed on a smaller scale. Page 4 End user requirements First of all I would like to take a look at the typical requirements that exist in the environment of the plant operator, what we call our end user. The end user is seeking solutions for applications in a harsh environment, these solutions we can provide: The adverse effect of dirt and dust can be reduced by the use of high-quality materials and ribbed contact surfaces on auxiliary contacts make for an even greater increase in contact reliability. Loose terminals caused by vibrations and shocks are minimized since all components in the innovated Sirius Modular System are offered with spring-loaded terminals in both the main circuit and the control circuit. Our new current monitoring relays enable users to monitor the entire application, beyond the motor, thus increasing plant availability, but more about that a little later on. Page 5 Innovations in the Sirius Modular System: Product portfolio Here you see the entire Sirius Modular System with all its components available for switching, starting, contacting as well as for monitoring plants and motors. This system has been given a complete facelift in design sizes S00 and S0 up to 40 amps and this goes for both the main circuit and the control circuit. It stands for rapid, flexible, space-saving assembly of control cabinets, making Sirius the ideal basis to meet even the most complex requirements. While retaining the same chassis size type, components now cover a wider performance range: in size S00 up to 7.5 kw, 3/8

4 in S0 up to 18.5 kw with 400 V. As a result, the 3RT2 Contactors can be used in a range of up to 38 amps and 3RV2 Circuit Breakers up to 40 amps, whilst both have a width of only 45 millimeters. The main innovations at a glance: All components in the main circuit up to 40 amps (A) / 38 A have an overall width of 45 mm 3RR2 Monitoring Relay for current monitoring with direct connection to contactors 3RU2/3RB3 Overload Relay, available in a thermal or electronic version 3RA28 Function Modules for easier mounting of direct starters, reversers and star-delta starters 3RA27 Function Modules for connecting entire feeders to the PLC, either via AS interface or IO link 3RA2 Load Feeders for top-hat rail and bus-bar mounting 3RA6 Compact Feeders with optional interface to AS interface and IO link 3RW30 / 3RW40 Soft Starter to reduce the starting torque and power peaks 3RF34 Solid-State Switches for noiseless switching and extreme switching frequencies As well as optimized details such as consistent connection systems in screw terminals, spring-loaded connection systems and ring tongue terminals; the patented plug-in technology for combining devices without the need for tools Page 6 Special features of the Sirus Modular System Since a fully innovated system gives rise to a large number of customer benefits, we have categorized these customer benefits into four groups in the interests of clarity: Assembly & Handling, Planning & Configuration, Application Monitoring and Connection to the PLC. I would now like to give you a few more details about all these special features. 4/8

5 Page 7 Assembly & handling without extensive wiring One of the highlights of the innovated Sirius Modular System is the reduced assembly and handling work involved. Another benefit in this field: The termination method! For the first time, a consistent spring-loaded connection system is available for the full range. Spring-loaded modular system components are particularly useful in mechanically complex applications, but they now provide an additional benefit: An additional connector interface enables tool-free combination of direct starters, reversers, or star-delta starters. Moreover, all components are also available with screw terminals and ring tongue terminals to meet special requirements. These different types of terminals make it much easier for machine manufacturers to meet individual customer needs. Sirius Function Modules for contactor mounting are also available for the easy and fault-free assembly of starters. They make for simplified assembly of any type of starter: Assembling a direct starter, a reverser or a star-delta starter no longer requires extensive wiring; the Sirius Function Modules are simply plugged into the Sirius Contactors in order to avoid mounting errors. The module used for assembling a direct online starter is equipped with integrated ON and OFF delay timing relays. The function module used for assembling a star-delta starter contains the control logic and time setting and thus replaces the auxiliary switches, the time relay and the control circuit wiring which are otherwise additionally needed. Earlier on I touched on the feed system for simple power feed and distribution: Individual circuit breakers and entire feeders are simply clicked into the feeder system, without the need for tools or complicated wiring, thus avoiding any risk of errors. Thanks to the wider performance range covered by the S00/S0 design sizes and the extended functions provided by the individual components of the modular system, the number of variants and parts involved is greatly reduced, as is the work required for assembly and order placement. The new 3RT2 Sirius Contactors, for example, now come with the auxiliary switch fully integrated. Page 8 Improved application monitoring 5/8

6 We are increasing operating safety and plant availability! In the future, our new current monitoring relays will enable users to monitor not just the motor but the entire application and this is done directly from the load feeder! Two and three-phase monitoring relays are directly integrated into the load and monitor both the motor, the driven process and all connected parts of the system for overcurrent and undercurrent, cable breakage and phase failure. In this way, for example, load shedding or motor overload are detected and signalled early on in the process. The PLC responds to the specific event and duly shuts down the system before a motor circuit breaker cuts off the entire feeder. Parameterization of the monitoring relays is done via rotary switch in the analog version and in the digital version using keys and a display with menu-guided setting. The digital version additionally supports fault current and phase sequence monitoring. Page 9 Efficient link between PLC and Industrial Controls Communication with the PLC plays a major role in plant availability. Load feeders are easily and rapidly connected to the PLC via Sirius function modules, thus ensuring communication via AS interface and IO link, providing great flexibility and minimizing the amount of wiring work in the control circuit. Thanks to the integration of communicating load feeders in the Step 7 engineering system, all load feeder data is centrally available in the PLC and can be conveniently transmitted and evaluated. Control and status signals of the load feeders such as readiness indication, ON/OFF, or group warning/fault are available in the same structure irrespective of the type of starter they are sent from. Previously unavailable diagnostics messages such as operating mode, limit position right/left, or device defect can now be directly further processed via IO link without the previously required configuration work. This allows faults to be immediately located and displayed in plain text centrally or via on-site HMI (Human Machine Interface) displays, for rapid troubleshooting. In this way, both entire systems and parts of the system can be centrally diagnosed, monitored, and maintained. Page 10 Simple configuration and documentation Alongside the hardware, Siemens also provides solid support during the planning and engineering phase. The latest information about many product details can be accessed in the internet. Mechanical engineers will find such technical information as manuals and data sheets, graphic data such as 3D models and circuit diagrams. 6/8

7 Special mention must be made here of the comprehensive CAx data which can be directly transferred to engineering programs and merchandise management systems. As a result, time-consuming product information searches no longer need to be made in printed manuals or product data be entered manually. Even the placement of orders for Industrial Controls has been given a greater customer focus: The Industry Mall offers a wide selection of individual components together with product and system configurators and/or code conversion tools. An availability check can also be carried out before placing the order and orders tracked afterwards. All this makes for optimized ordering and planning processes, enabling swift and focused plant planning and documentation. Planning security is supported by the large number of tried-and-tested Sirius load feeder combinations for use in fused or non-fused assemblies; based on improved readings, plants can be implemented swiftly and reliably. For global application, the Sirius modular system products come with international certifications such as UL, CSA and IEC. Page 11 Benefits for our customers In conclusion, let me summarize once again the customer benefits: For machine and control panel manufacturers Sirius means greater speed and efficiency in assembling a control panel as well as simpler planning and configuration work. Automaters will find it easy to connect the control panel to the automation level. For the end user, we are avoiding the risk of error and increasing plant availability whilst also reducing operating costs. More efficiency in Industrial Controls using Sirius!
