Simply by switching to efficient lighting technologies such as LED lamps, it will be possible to lower electricity consumption by roughly 80 %. Perspektiven, Issue Smart City Wien
Danish street lighting accounts for an energy consumption of about 350 GWh per year. This yields a great potential to optimize energy use by replacing the light sources with more economic solutions.
With intelligent control of street lighting it becomes possible to adjust the illumination intensity to percent of during periods with low traffic (such as at night). Illumination intensity is raised to 100 percent, in the street lamps that are near any road users.
In DOLL Living Lab a number of producers and purchasers demonstrate and test outdoor lighting in 1:1 scale of 10 kilometers of roads and trails in Hersted Industrial Park in Albertslund. Each of the 300 points of light in the Living Lab has an IP address and can be controlled from a central inspection and control center - DOLL Visitor Center.
Vejle Library cooperating with the IT department in Vejle municipality creating a Smart University to offer people with educational needs of university teaching, study places and help for literature search. Physical education is also supplemented with offers of online e-learning, also for expats, who can take online courses in Danish, and commence or complete already started training.
