Roadmap for Smart Street Lighting Péter Schwarcz Principal Engineer Special thanks for Kata Hujber & Gabriella Zsivola for their contributions March 2019

Smart City introduction
Tier1: Conversion from convetional technology to Smart-ready LED Features I&E Benefit Designed for LED SMART-ready construction Autonom smart functions: Dynadim CLO Built-in telemanagement enabled NEMA or SR socket +15% CAPEX + 0 % OPEX 40-50% Energy Saving due to LEDification % saving with preset dimming and CLO functions
Tier2: Remote access or real time control of lighting Features I&E Benefit Telemanagement to remotely control metering Readiness status report and Lighting output control by the operator Dimming by real time motion detection LUCO (Power line or RF) SECO Communication unit Management SW % CAPEX % OPEX Equipped with Dynamic Adaptive Control unit/ +80% CAPEX + 0% OPEX Adjustable dimming profile (vs preset) Real-time metering Optimized maintenance Additional comfort Upto 70% energy saving on low traffic routes, 2-5 yrs payback Optimized light output by object identification (pedestrians & cars)
Exploring the Value Proposition 1/2 Lighting only CAPEX TIER1 LEDification TIER2 Lighting Controls CAPEX CAPEX 50% 35-40% 100% Saving by LED 50% Saving by control OPEX Baseline: Actual OPEX of current street lighting Massive value impact from LED by energy & maintenance savings Long term value from longer lifetime & lower running costs Additional energy savings by complete control over lighting system
Case Study1: Balatonakarattya, Hungary Wireless lighting control Project expectations Create an intelligent lighting system and starting point for a smart city. Solution 1100 modern LED Spinellas, Navonas and SLBts have been installed. The fixtures can be controlled separately and together via wireless mech network. The result The energy efficiency and long lifetime of the TUNGSRAM LED luminaires reduce the energy bill, as well as maintanance costs.
Case Study2: Kaposvár, Hungary PLC Lighting control Solution 2300 modern LED Spinellas, have been installed with eviromentally friendly intelligent lighting system. The fixtures can be controlled separately and together via PowerLine communication. The energy efficiency and long lifetime of the TUNGSRAM LED lamps reduce not only the energy bill, but also the maintanance costs.
Case Study3: Szentendre, Hungary Dynamic control by movement sensors Objectives The aim of this project to track the energy-saving potential of montioncontrolled dimming in streetlighting. of the saving by LEDification. This is due to the low level traffic typical for residential areas. The solution 50+ LED lumianires were installed with radar sensor on each column. The neibouring sensors are linked, so the system can predict the speed of the object (pedestrian or car) and adjust the lighting accordingly. The result The energy consumption of the fixtures is trackable. It delivers 40% additional savings on the top of the saving by LEDification. This is due to the low level traffic typical for residential areas.
Opportunities learnt from Tier1&2 projects Controlled LED lighting adds safety and comfort urban environment Well-established technology, hundreds of references Proven ROI ESCO finance model is avaialble Lighting quality is accarding to the standards Future-proof Very visible (!), easy to communicate A better quality of life for citizens and visitors Reduced accident rates Improved security Reliable track of assets * Source: Tungsram projects experience
Risks learnt from Tier1&2 projects Over-specification of products o V driver for a 230V network o Solution: V driver with MainsGuard feature o 0-10V control offers one-way communication, only o Solution: DALI driver o Zhaga socket does not offer access to the mains o Solution: 7-pin NEMA socket o LM-84 is useless due to measurement uncertaintity o Solution: LM-80 and TM-21 o Useful life claims over hrs has no practical benefit o Solution: Limit life-time claims according to applications, but not more than 100,000 hrs o Overestimation of energy-saving o Public rejection of dimming (especially dynamic) o The condition of the current infrastrucure as previewed o Delay of projects * Source: Tungsram projects experience
Tier3: Apps Economy Features I&E Benefit Plug&Play lighting fixture and pole Hosting services for Security cameras Parking management Traffic management Environmental sensors E-mobility WIFI LIFI Rental partnership with service providers % CAPEX % OPEX Continuous income via Rental fee Additional++ value stream from Space Power suply Bandwidth Maintenance
Tier4: Built-in Intelligence beyond lighting Features I&E Benefit Extended Services beyond lighting Built-in and service provider Security cameras Parking management Traffic management Environmental sensors Support autonomous driving E-mobility WIFI LIFI Service partnership with end-users % CAPEX % OPEX City well-being Continuous Additional++++ value stream from Crime reduction Higher infrastructure utilization (carparks, roads) Reduced CO2 emission Early alerts of abnormal conditions
Exploring the Value Proposition 2/2 CAPEX TIER3 Hosting services Upto 1000% TIER4 City wellness Beyond lighting Upto 500% OPEX Revenue stream from apps hostingrevenue streams from at lighting points: extended services: - Protected space - better parking enforcement - Power supply - traffic management - Data transmission - weather prediction - CCTV - Wi-fi - e-mobility New, Data Revenue Stream needs to be established
Smart City goals & benefits Smart Cities add digital intelligence to existing urban systems, making it possible to do more with less* Goals Benefits Improve the city s attractiveness to citizens & businesses by adding effective & innovative services Enable better decision making through the use of data for all stake holders: government, business & residents Provide better quality of life: healthier & happier citizens * Source: McKinsey Global Institute A better quality of life for citizens and visitors Economic competitiveness to attract industry and business companies An environmentally and economical conscious focus on sustainability A more efficient and responsive city that delivers better outcomes: 30-40% fewer crime incidents 8-15% lower disease buder mins less daily commute liters of water saved per person per day 20-35% faster emergency response
