4 KhalifaSat is EIAST s 3rd Earth Observation Satellite. KhalifaSat will be 100% developed by Emirati engineers. DubaiSat-3 was renamed KhalifaSat in honour of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. The four year programme to develop KhalifaSat began in 2013 Completed PDR and SDR Next: CDR meeting in July 2015 KhalifaSat 4/29/

5 KhalifaSat Main Objectives : Develop a sub-meter resolution small satellite system to be used for global imaging and download, Establish the necessary infrastructure for the development of the satellites in the UAE Contribute locally and internationally with value added products and services derived from KhalifaSat images. 5

13 EIAST s New Projects Nayif-1 (CubeSat): UAE's first CubeSat Mission that will be launched by 2015 It will be built in partnership with the American University of Sharjah (AUS) and the implementation partner "Innovative Solutions in Space A Nanosatellite that offers hands-on experience to engineering students in the design, integration, testing, and operation of a communications satellite Advanced Aerial Systems Program (AASP): The Advanced Aerial Systems Program aims to develop UAE capabilities in the fields of designing, manufacturing and operating advanced aerial systems, in line with EIAST s mission to develop advanced science and technology across the UAE. The main objective is to build medium to high altitude aerial systems to provide services and advanced solutions to different sectors in the UAE. A demonstration model of HAPS developed with AirBus Defense and Space was tested in Dubai last September. 13

14 UAE s Mission to Mars The UAE Space Agency and the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) has signed an agreement in October 20 th, 2014; to build the first Arabic- Islamic Mars space probe. Main Objective is to build Emirati technical and intellectual capabilities in the fields of aerospace and space exploration, to enter the space industry, and to make use of space technology in a way that enhances the country s development plans The probe will take nine months to make the journey to Mars. The mission is scheduled to arrive in 2021 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the UAE. The UAE Space Agency will be supervising and financing the project while EIAST has been chosen to be the main contractor for the implementation. EIAST shall cooperate with international partners throughout different phases of the project. 14
