Old
Style
Old Style Old Style type began with designs of the punchcutter Francesco Griffo, who worked for the famous Venetian scholar-printer Aldus Manutius during the 1940s. Griffo s designs evolved from earlier Italian type designs. His Old Style capitals were influenced by carved Roman capitals; lowercase letters were inspired by fifteenth-century humanistic writing styles, based on the earlier Carolingian minuscules. Old Style letterforms have the weight stress of rounded forms at an angle, as in handwriting. The serifs are bracketed (that is, unified witht the stroke by a tapered, curved line). Also, the top serifs on the lowercase letters are at an angle.
Kanto Region Starters The first generation starter Pokemon are like Old Style because these were the original starters. Pokemon Blue was first released in Japan October 10, It was released almost two years later in North America on September 28, Bulbasaur the grass type, Squirtle the water type and the Charmander the fire type would soon become the standard archetype across the majority of the Pokemon video games.

Transitional
Transitional During the 1700s, typestyles gradually evolved from Old Style to Modern. Typefaces from the middle of the eighteenth century, including those by John Basrkerville, are called Transitional. The contrast between thick and thin strokes is greater than in Old Style faces. Lowercase serifs are more horizontal, and the stress within the rounded forms shifts to a less diagonal axis. Transitional characters are usually wider than Old Style characters.
Hoenn Region Starters The third generation of Pokemon is often refered to as the 'Generational Gap Pokemon'. It still had the standard archetypes of Pokemon: Torchi the fire type, Treecko the grass type, and Mudkip the water type. However, Pokemon Ruby was released on November 21, 2002 allowing for a new generation of players to be swept into the Pokemon universe. The difference here is that the mojority of players that played through the first two generations had grown out of it or no longer found it interesting, thus the 'Generational Gap'.

Modern
Modern Late in the 1700s, typefaces termed Modern evolved from Transitional styles. These typefaces have extreme contrasts between thick and thin stokes. Thin strokes are reduce to hairlines. The weight stress of rounded characters is verticle. Serifs are horizontal hairlines that join the stems at a right angle without bracketing. The upper case width is regularized; wide letters such as M and W are condensed and other letters, including P and T, are expanded. Modernstyle typefaces have a strong geometric quality projected by rigorous horizontal, vertical, and circular forms.
Since the release of 'Pokemon Go' on July 6, 2016, while the gaming community celebrated 20 years of Pokemon, the newest iteration of Pokemon games made its debut; Pokemon Sun and Moon. Set to release on November 18, 2016, it has not only included the hype of serveal generations of players, while also managing to include many players who have never played Pokemon. However due to the success of Pokemon Go, they can't wait to get a fresh start in the Alola Region! Sun and Moon is staying true to its roots. The Pokemon starter achetype is present; Litten the fire type, Rowlet the grass type, and Popplio Alola Region Starters the water type.
Slab
Serif
Slab-Serif In 1815, the English typefounder Vincent Figgins inroduced slab-serif typestyles under the name Antique. At the time, there was a mania for ancient Egyptian artifacts, and other typefounders adopted the name Egyptian for their slab-serif designs. These typestyles have heavy square or rectangular serifs that are usually unbracketed. The stress of curved strokes is often minimal. In some slab-serif typefaces, all strokes are the same weight.
Pokemon Yellow Starters Released in Japan on September 12, 1998, Pokemon Yellow Version certainly deviated from its predeccssors. Yellow Version was inspried by the original Pokemon anime that aired in North America on April 1, 1997, a little over a year before the game was released in America on October 18, This game does not have the fire-water-grass archetype that the original games had. Instead the player is forced to start with a Pikachu, while the rival recieves an Eevee. With the success of the games that came before, this classic if often overlooked and many people never played it.
Sans
Serif
Sans-Serif The first sans serif typestyle appeared in an 1816 specimen book of English typefounder William Caslon IV. The most obvious characteristic of these styles is, as the name implies, the absence of serifs. In many sans serif typefaces, strokes are uniform, with little or no contrast between thick and think strokes. Stress is almost always vertical. Many sans serif typefaces are geometeric in their construction; others combine both organic and geometeric qualities.
Kalos Region Starters Pokemon X and Y was a returning point for a lot of players. With a slew of new pokemon, a new region and a fresh batch of starters, it was a great place to reenter the Pokemon universe. For Pokemon X and Y, the player can choose from Froakie the water type, Fennekin the fire type, and Chespin the grass type. Later in the game, you also get to choose from the Kanto Region starters (Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle).
