3 Introduction Handelsbanken s implementation guide for BANSTA gives exact information about the type of information that a message in EDIFACT standard from Handelsbanken must contain. The description is specific for Handelsbanken s services and routines and must only be used when working with Handelsbanken. This implementation guide contains information regarding unexecuted payment orders transferred to the Bank via file. The BANSTA message contains information about rejected payment orders which will not be subject to further handling by the Bank. The reason for rejection is stated in the message. Only one message for each payment order is shown in a BANSTA message even though a payment order may contain several error reasons. If the account to be debited is maintained in another country than Sweden, the Bank will only be able to discover if the order, after usual checks, can be sent on to another country for execution. Orders that are rejected by Handelsbanken s international units or by another bank will not be subject to a BANSTA message. If the order is accepted on reception it may still be rejected at a later stage, for example if, on the date for execution, funds are lacking on the assigned account to be debited. Orders that are rejected in connection with execution will not be subject to a BANSTA message. If rejected orders are contained in a file received by the Bank, a BANSTA message is normally delivered about 15 minutes after final authorisation has been registered for the file. In certain cases rejected orders from the same file delivery may be distributed on several BANSTA messages. For complete information about final execution, a follow-up should be done via Handelsbanken s Internet service. The description is based on the implementation guidelines produced by the Swedish banks within the Swedish Bankers Association. These implementation guidelines are available in the Swedish Bankers Association s Handbook on This contains a description of the business transaction status message with regard to information content and structure, and guidelines regarding placing the information in EDIFACT s BANSTA message from catalogue version D96.A.rev To understand this format description it is thus necessary to use it in parallel with the implementation guidelines of the Swedish Bankers Association. The implementation guidelines describe the information content sorted in numerical order for the business terms included in the business transaction status message in the documentaion of the said Bankers Association. Together with each business term there is also a reference to the data element concerned in the EDIFACT BANSTA message. The intention is to make it possible to use the format description in parallel with both the business transaction status message for the company s information analysis, and the message application of the BANSTA message for implementation in the company s systems. History At Handelsbanken, changes to version numbers are made according to the following guidelines. The original version is The last digit is moved up a digit when the format descriptions are changed, for example text clarifications and examples. The second digit is moved up a digit if minor changes are made to the format such as new countries or changes in the payment type. The first digit is moved up a digit (thus becoming a completely new version) if the format changes mean that the customer will have to make adaptations in order to continue using the service. 9 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The Bansta status message may also be used for information about rejected payments in other file formats than PAYMUL. If the UTLI format is used, you must use PT7 pos Trans-ID for reporting back. This is necessary to be able to distinguish the specific transaction in question. If the Bank does not receive a value in this field, a time stamp is added which is shown in the internet service in relation to the specific transaction, but this is not a concept that can be searched. The corresponding position is to be found in BANSTA A035 If the MT101 format is used, you must use Tag 21 (mandatory field) in Sequence B The corresponding positions are to be found in BANSTA A035 The corresponding Sequence A Tag 20 is to be found in BANSTA A033 preceded by a hash total for the file.
