1 Student Instructions for Genius SIS New Account Creation To begin, log in to the NSO Genius page: There is also a link from the NSO website: Note: Returning students should already have an account. If you are not sure, click Forgot login link, and enter your address. If an account already exists for that address, an will be sent with your password. If you do not have a student account, click the link under New to Northern Star Online. A counselor, parent or guardian can also create an account on a student s behalf. Note: An account will be created for any parents and guardians entered for the student, and their login instructions will be ed to directly to the parent/guardian .

2 New account set- up page Enter your personal information: Yellow boxes are required Password: Can be any you choose, but be sure it is secure and you can remember it. address: It is very important that this is your own , separate from your parents and others, as it will be your username for Genius and for your online course access. Information must be entered for at least one parent or guardian. Guardian MUST BE DIFFERENT FROM STUDENT S A parent account will be created using this as the username Choose district and school from drop- down: you can start typing to narrow the choices. Be sure to click Submit An confirming your account creation, username and password will be sent to your address. An will also be set to any parent or guardian at the address entered for them, providing their login information.

3 Requested Courses Page After you click Submit, you will be logged in and taken to the Requested Courses page. From here, you can begin the Course Request Process immediately. You can also edit your login password, your basic information, or view any of the other items in the menu on the lift. Most will not contain active information until your courses start. 4 Request New Course Entry To enter a new request, click Request new course from the Requested Courses List. Then go through the drop- down menus to select the course and related information: Term: Fall, Spring, Summer This may not correspond to your school terms, but simply refers to the semester in which you are expecting to begin Course: choose from the drop- down list Choose the courses that end in (NSO). You may request courses from the other programs, but you will need to visit the SOCRATES or INFINITY websites for further information, as NSO will not be processing these requests. Only the name will be listed. You will choose credits and other features further on. Segment: refers to the part of the course you will need. See Segment Definition at on the NSO website for details. Segment is NOT based on the TIME, but on the amount of WORK to do. If in doubt, choose Sem A and consult your counselor.

5 Type: Private, Supplemental, IS, Tuition If you are not sure which to choose, enter SU and contact Check the box that confirms you understand and agree to the program requirements and expectations Please see the NSO Term Schedule at to determine which window applies to you. You may enter your preference for specific start and end dates if necessary. NSO reserves the right to recommend start- end dates prior to final approval to accommodate reporting requirements. Credits: These will be auto- entered based on the SEGMENT chosen (see above) Reason: We are required by law to collect the reason for enrolling. Check your Grade Level Enter your initials as a digital signature BE SURE TO CLICK SAVE You have now entered a Request! Your counselor, parent or guardian, and NSO staff will be able to review, edit, and sign- off as the next step. If you wish to enter another course request, choose Request new course again from the Requested Courses List.
