1 How to Change Your Password and Configure Your Settings 1) Contact Christine Iannicelli ( ; and ask her to create an account for you. 2) Go to Plagscan.com 3) Login with your address and default password that Christine sent you. 4) Click on the Settings icon. 5) Select Change password. 6) Create a new password and click on Save changes. 7) In the Plagiarism Checking section, make sure the top 4 boxes are checked (you can also check the box next to Check against the Plagiarism Prevention Pool if you want to compare student submissions to submissions from other schools). Then click on Save changes. 1

2 How to Check Student Papers for Plagiarism Option 1: Canvas Integration 1) Create an assignment or edit an existing assignment in Canvas. 2) Under Submission Type, choose External Tool in the dropdown menu. Then click Find. 3) Choose PlagScan in the list, then click the Select button. 4) Click Save and Publish at the bottom. 5) Click Settings at the top. 2

3 6) Here you can configure your assignment settings. Once you are finished, click Save. a. Check Show document reports to uploader if you want to give students access to their plagiarism reports. b. Check Automatically analyze at upload the files if you want PlagScan to run the report as soon as student submit. Otherwise, choose Automatically analyze at deadline or leave both unchecked and run them manually. c. Check Allow to update the submissions to allow students to resubmit assignments if PlagScan reports plagiarism and choose the maximum number of documents they can submit. 7) Once students have submitted assignments, you can see the plagiarism reports by clicking on the Assignment or going to SpeedGrader. Note: You can leave overall comments on assignment submitted through PlagScan but you cannot annotate them. 3

4 Option 2: Manual Upload to PlagScan 1) Download your students papers (you can download student paper submissions through Canvas by going to the Gradebook, clicking on the drop-down arrow next to the assignment column, and selecting Download Submissions. Click Save if prompted. The papers will be saved as a zip file on your computer). 2) Go to PlagScan.com 3) Login with your address and password. 4) Click on the Documents icon at the top, then click on File upload (you can upload zipped folders through this as well). 4

5 5) Allow the document(s) to process (you can upload other documents during this process as well). Once processed, click on Start Check (it may start automatically depending on your settings). 6) When the check is finished, click on the Report or the Content link to access the document. You should also receive an with the plagiarism results (unless you have disabled this under Settings). 7) PlagScan will highlight any potential plagiarism in red. The sources that the text match are listed. This includes any previous documents you have submitted from other students. To view a side-by-side comparison of the submitted document and potential plagiarized source, click on Show Comparison. You can also download the report as a PDF or Word document. 5
