2 What is ArtSpectations? ArtSpectations is an annual online colored pencil art competition hosted by the Colored Pencil Society of America ( ArtSpectations has one big difference from other exhibitions hosted by CPSA there is no jurying-in process. Every entry that meets competition eligibility and criteria requirements is accepted and immediately viewable. Once the entry period ends, a judge reviews all the entries and selects award winners in both a CPSA Signature category and a Non-signature category. This provides an opportunity for all artists to compete against their peers. ArtSpectations entries remain online until the next annual show entry period begins, so your art is viewable anywhere in the world for up to a year. Artist Eligibility Open to living artists 18 years of age or older in any location inside or outside the U.S. CPSA members and non-members may enter. No preferential treatment is given to CPSA members. If you are a CPSA Signature member, you must identify yourself as a Signature member on each application form for each entry, whether it was completed before or after earning Signature status. Artwork Criteria Artists may submit a maximum of five (5) digital entries to each annual ArtSpectations competition. All artwork must have been completed after May 1, All artwork must be either 100% colored pencil or predominantly colored pencil with other media. Artists may NOT enter artwork that has previously appeared in any CPSA International or Explore This! (ET!) exhibition or won an award in a previous ArtSpectations competition. Artwork entered in a previous ArtSpectations show that did not receive an award may be entered again in subsequent ArtSpectations competitions. There are no size limits for the original artwork. Artists may enter artwork that has been sold. Concept, design, and execution of the artwork shall be SOLELY that of the artist. (continued) No work copied from copyrighted or published materials (such as Creative Commons). No collaborations (works executed by more than one artist). No work copied from someone else s photograph, even with permission. Any artwork that infringes upon another s copyright will be disqualified. CPSA reserves the right to ask for further proof if there is any question or concern about the originality of the artwork. If you are concerned about exposure of your artwork on the Internet or on Facebook you are welcome to unobtrusively watermark your image(s). The fee is $10 per entry. Entry Fees Payment is made on the cpsa.fluidreview.com website through PayPal. No exceptions. All submissions must be made through the CPSA FluidReview website. No submissions by or postal service will be accepted, acknowledged, or returned. If artwork is disqualified for any reason, the fee for that entry will not be refunded. 3 What is CPSA Signature Status? Signature status is awarded by CPSA to its active members whose work appears three times within ten years in one of the two annual CPSA juried exhibitions. This entitles the member to use the initials CPSA (International Exhibition) or CPX (Explore This! Exhibition) after their name. No Signature status is awarded for ArtSpectations competitions. New CPSA status takes effect following the awards banquet at the summer convention, usually the last Friday in July. New CPX status takes effect on February 1, the date the Explore This! online exhibition goes live on the CPSA website. Digital Image Specifications Digital image of artwork should be cropped to edges of the actual artwork. Do NOT include frames or matting unless artwork extends onto that surface. Recommended image file type is JPEG (JPG). The longest side of your image should be a minimum of 600 pixels and maximum of 1920 pixels (PPI/DPI is not a factor) to enable viewers to see enough detail onscreen. This will also create a file size easily uploaded to the FluidReview website. You may unobtrusively watermark your image if you are concerned about Facebook/Internet exposure. Keep in mind that if the watermark is too prominent, viewers and the judge may not be able to fully view or appreciate your artwork. Lotus Dance by Rhonda Anderson (CA). Honorable Mention award, Non-signature category, Rules By submitting an entry, the artist acknowledges that he or she has read and agrees to abide by all rules, criteria, and the permission and copyright information as detailed in this prospectus. Artwork may be uploaded until 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on the entry period closing date for submissions. No entries will be accepted after that deadline. Artwork that has appeared in a CPSA International or Explore This! (ET!) exhibition or has won an award in a previous ArtSpectations show is NOT eligible for entry into subsequent ArtSpectations competitions. Artwork submitted to ArtSpectations MAY be submitted to subsequent CPSA International or ET! exhibitions whether or not it receives an award in ArtSpectations. All submissions must be made through the CPSA FluidReview website. No submissions by or postal service will be accepted, acknowledged, or returned. If artwork is disqualified or withdrawn for any reason, the fee for that entry will not be refunded. If you are a CPSA Signature member, you must identify yourself as a Signature member on your application form for all your entries, whether they were completed before or after earning Signature status. Permission and Copyright By submitting an entry, the Artist grants permission for CPSA to reproduce images of their artwork for CPSA marketing and promotional purposes. Every effort will be made to maintain quality true to the submitted image, recognizing that the print or electronic medium may affect how the viewer receives the image. By entering the competition, the Artist agrees to the criteria and rules outlined in this prospectus, and hereby certifies that he or she holds the copyright for their artwork, and the copyright remains with said Artist. CPSA will include a notice with electronic displays that material must not be downloaded or copied, but CPSA will not be held responsible if artwork is copied. The Artist also certifies that the work submitted is original and does not infringe on any existing copyright. If artwork includes an image of a person, the Artist certifies that a model release has been obtained. CPSA ArtSpectations Prospectus 3

In addition, five Honorable Mention awards will be selected in each category. The Best of Show award amount is $500 for each of the two categories. There are no cash awards for Honorable Mention level awards. All winners will be featured on the CPSA website, in the CPSA news magazine To The Point, and in social media. An artist may win only one award (Best of Show or Honorable Mention) per ArtSpectations competition. Best of Show award, Signature category, Untitled (Teapot Boiling) by Michael Menius, CPSA (CA). Honorable Mention award, Signature category ArtSpectations Judge Jeffrey Smart Baisden, CPSA Jeffrey Smart Baisden was born in Fort Payne, Alabama, grew up in the Florida panhandle and graduated from Florida State University with a degree in art education. Following a move to Live Oak, Florida, in 1974 to teach high school, she developed a fine arts program teaching grades 9 12, Advanced Placement, and adult painting. Jeffrey exhibited her artwork in regional exhibitions on weekends. Discovering Prismacolor pencils in 1980 as a valuable teaching tool, she began exploring the medium along with her students. These improved colored pencils offered the desired color and control of painting and were portable. In 1992, she resigned from public school to devote full time to drawing, exhibitions, and teaching workshops. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, as well as eighteen Colored Pencil Society of America International Exhibitions, receiving Awards of Excellence in 1996, 2001, and In February 2003, she received the CPSA Exceptional Merit Award at the Explore This! Experimental Exhibition for the drawing Night Watch. Her drawings are included in the series The Best of Colored Pencil 2, 3, and 4, Colored Pencil Explorations, American Artist Magazine, The Artist s Magazine and the cover of Art Calendar magazine. Jeffrey is a Signature and fifteen year Merit Award member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, has served as District Chapter Development Director for CPSA and past president of CPSA District Chapter 113. She was selected to teach one of two national workshops at the CPSA Convention and Exhibition in Memphis, 2004, as well as workshops throughout the country. She is also an active member of the prestigious Florida Artists Group, the oldest professional art organization in Florida, winning awards in their annual exhibitions in 2006, 2009, and Upward Nobility by Jeffrey Smart Baisden, CPSA (FL), selected for rd Annual CPSA International Exhibition.
