These guidelines were develped by the Muntain View-Ls Alts Unin High Schl District t help schls use the resurces f the Wrld Wide Web while ensuring student safety and are based n Bard Plicy and Administrative Regulatin regarding student and emplyee use f technlgy. (Ref. BP /AR6163.4, BP 4040/AR4040,BP 4132 and BP 1113). Schls are required t have and maintain a web site and thse web sites must fllw these guidelines. Time sensitive material shuld be updated n a regular basis. P urpse The Muntain View-Ls Alts High Schl District Internet/Intranet Publishing (IIP) Guidelines infrm staff, webmasters, vlunteers and cntent spnsrs/cntributrs f their respnsibility t efficiently, ethically and legally use netwrk resurces and t ensure prper cnduct when using the district's technlgy resurces. G uiding Principles Educatinal Value All published material must have educatinal gals and plicies. value and/r supprt the district guidelines, Published must nt display, access, r link t cntent deemed ffensive r inapprpriate as defined by Bard Plicies, Administrative Regulatins and the MVLA Acceptable Use and Internet Safety Agreement. Publishing Guidelines Only materials authrized by a spnsring schl district rganizatin may be published n MVLA servers and web sites. The MVLA District reserves the right t delete any material r links created and/r published n district web sites using district equipment and/r resurces. All schl district rganizatins invlved in Internet/Intranet publishing must have every Cntent Spnsr and Cntributr sign the agreement cntained belw and maintain a cpy f thse signed agreements with an administratr at their site. Staff and students must respect individual student wishes related t publishing student wrk n a web site and btain permissin as necessary prir t publishing wrks. Prtect Privacy Page 1 f 8

2 At n time shall any student s persnal infrmatin (such as hme address, address, r phne number) appear n MVLA Internet/Intranet published materials. All cntact infrmatin shuld identify a webmaster r cntent spnsr. s frm the District s e-list system are archived n a cmputer that can be searched frm the Internet by the general public and web crawlers designed t search fr addresses and ther persnal infrmatin. Users f the e-list system shuld be regularly reminded nt t include any identifying infrmatin their crrespndence. Student Safety/Privacy N persnal infrmatin abut students r their parents/guardians, including phne numbers, hme addresses r addresses, shall be published n a district r schl web page. T ensure student safety, in general, a student s picture and his/her first and last name shall never appear n the same page. Phtgraphs f grups f students, such as at a schl event, may be published prvided that students names are nt included. The nly exceptins t this are: Publicatin f a student picture and name in the schl newspaper as it appeared in the print versin f the paper. On the website with previus written parent/guardian permissin (which must be kept n file) fr purpses f recgnitin. Except in the case f the schl newspaper r by parent permissin, a stranger shuld never be able t cnnect a student s full name with a face. Phtgraphs f grups f students, such as at a schl event, may be published prvided that students names are nt included. A student s name and picture may be published tgether fr purpses f recgnitin if the parent has given prir permissin fr a specific publicatin purpse. Parents will be infrmed in writing at the at the beginning f each year that the schl reserves the right t publish a picture f his/her student as fllws: On the schl website unless the parent has ntified the schl in writing that he/she des nt grant such permissin. In the student newspaper, which may publish pictures and names f students frm time t time. Psted student wrk may be identified by the student s first and last name if n picture is assciated with the wrk. Staff Privacy Names and wrk numbers f staff members are public infrmatin and may be published n the schl/district web pages. Cmmunicatins with parents is a district pririty. District spnsred staff addresses may be part f schl/district web pages. Pictures f individual administratrs and staff members may be used unless staff members have submitted written ntice withhlding permissin t use their phtgraph. 3 Cpyright Laws It is the plicy f the district that all cntent f the web sites adhere t all cpyright laws. Please cntact yur site webmaster with specific questins regarding cpyright laws. Generally, fair use f Internet resurces shuld parallel the use f printed resurces. Unless there is a clear statement that art, phts and text are public dmain and available fr free use, ne shuld assume that they are cpyrighted. Neither teachers nr students may safely make use f ther s materials (graphics, text, etc.) when they publish n the web unless they have requested and received frmal permissin t d s. Cntent Mnitring/Auditing Cntent Spnsrs and schl webmaster are respnsible fr regularly reviewing Internet/Intranet accessible cntent t mnitr apprpriateness, adherence t these publishing guidelines, quality and educatinal value. It is the respnsibility f the spnsring rganizatin t update and maintain any psted infrmatin. The hmepage f any schl-spnsred rganizatin must reside n a district server. Accrdingly, MVLA Schl District Administratin r Infrmatin Systems Department reserves the right t audit and/r adjust materials and/r activity n any District server used t publish cntent spnsred by an MVLA rganizatin. Cmmercial Partnerships Generally, cmmercial partnerships may nly be recgnized in the frm f a credit r lg. Cmmercial advertisements r links t ther web sites (see als Active Links sectin belw) with the intentin f marketing, selling, r therwise delivering an audience fr a prfit are nt permitted n district hsted web pages with the exceptins nted belw. The nline versin f schl publicatins (such as the newspaper r yearbk) must delete all advertisements befre psting t the district s servers. Recgnized schl/district rganizatins may use district web sites fr limited advertising f fund raising effrts by fllwing the guidelines nted belw: Advertisements fr fundraising partnerships are acceptable as lng as they are nly published fr the limited duratin f the fundraising activity Fundraising advertisements may nly be placed n the spnsring rganizatin s hme page Links t cmmercial sites that prvide access t ther prducts beynd what the schl is selling is nt permitted Advertisements fr prducts and/r services are limited t thse that the district apprves f and will be prviding r has prvided itself n campus. W EB SITE CONTENT GUIDELINES Active Links The web is a very dynamic resurce. It is strngly recmmended that links t sites utside f district servers be checked regularly t ensure the MVLA spnsred web cntent is nt linking t nn-mvla sites that vilate these guidelines, district plicies, regulatins, and/r practices. Any links that take the user utside MVLA web sites shall cntain a ntice that the user is leaving district spnsred web sites and a disclaimer that the district is nt respnsible fr the cntent f external websites. There shuld always be navigatinal clues t help users find their way arund (a back buttn is nt always adequate). Disclaimer T affirm that yu are striving t maintain the highest standards, the hme page f each website shall cntain a disclaimer, stating that published cntent adheres t these guidelines. Respnsibilities: Ensure Cntent Cntributrs understand requirements f IIP befre publishing. Assure accuracy and apprpriateness f all materials published s that they adhere t district gals, guidelines and plicies as dcumented herein. Annually sign and return the Cntent Spnsr Agreement t designated site administratr. CONTENT CONTRIBUTOR Defined: Any individual wh, with a Cntent Spnsr, prvides cntent materials t be published n a district Internet/Intranet accessible server. Respnsibilities: Fllw IIP guidelines. Ensure accuracy and apprpriateness f all materials published s that they adhere t district gals, guidelines and plicies as dcumented herein. Annually sign and return the Cntent Spnsr Agreement t designated Cntent Spnsr P rcess 1. An rganizatin/club determines a need t publish n MVLA district Internet/Intranet and gains apprval f the designated site Administratr/webmaster. 2. The site Administratr designates a site Webmaster wh then identifies and maintains a list f authrized club/rganizatin Cntent Spnsrs. These authrized club/rganizatin Cntent Spnsrs identify their Cntent Cntributrs. Webmaster then authrizes apprpriate access t district web cntent management systems by spnsrs and/r cntributrs. 3. The site Administratr, Webmaster, Cntent Spnsrs and invited Cntent Cntributrs develp Internet/Intranet Publishing prcedures fr the schl s website. The hme page f each high schl will maintain a similar structure acrss the district. 4. Cntent Spnsrs and Cntent Cntributrs cmplete the required agreements. 5. The rganizatin sends cpies f the necessary signed Internet/Intranet Publishing Agreements, and the lcatin f all Internet/Intranet accessible cntent t the designated site administratr/webmaster.
