3 Frequently Asked Questions What does F.A.M.E. stand for? F.A.M.E. is ChildCare Education Institute's state of the art, Faculty Administrative Management Expert. It is a proprietary system allowing national child care chains, child care organizations, referral agencies, centers and schools to manage staff training in one convenient online management tool. Who is F.A.M.E. designed for? F.A.M.E. is designed exclusively for the childcare industry. What are the benefits of F.A.M.E.? Once logged into F.A.M.E., students have the ability to control all aspects of their professional development. Students will be able to control all aspects of their own account, regardless of whether it was an individual purchase or part of a center-based purchase. Will I only be able to access F.A.M.E. on the computer I used to create my account? No. Access is available at almost any computer with an internet connection and a web browser. Simply log in to F.A.M.E. using your assigned username and password and you will be greeted with your familiar F.A.M.E. home page. Can two people have the same user ID? No. Every user ID is unique to each student. Is an address required? Yes. An address is required to receive the new account validation as well as various other correspondences. Can one address be used for multiple accounts? No. To reduce the potential for fraud or a breach of privacy, every user must have a unique address. Where can students sign up for a free account? Free accounts are available at many websites such as yahoo.com or gmail.com. What are the technical requirements for taking courses through the F.A.M.E. System? To access F.A.M.E. Your computer should meet these minimum requirements: Windows 98 or greater operating system or Mac OSX operating system Adobe Reader (a free download available at An internet connection The Mozilla Firefox browser is recommended for using F.A.M.E. It is a free download available at Alternately, you may use Internet Explorer version 7.0 or greater. While a dial-up connection will work, a high speed connection is recommended. You may find that certain tasks will become time consuming if you access F.A.M.E. with a dial-up connection. Page 1

4 Can I access F.A.M.E. using AOL? While F.A.M.E. has been designed to reach the most people with the least amount of outside interference, there are issues with the AOL browser that cannot be worked around at this time. If you are an AOL user, please access the internet using AOL as you normally do, then minimize the AOL greeting window and launch an internet browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer. Is F.A.M.E. secure? Yes. You may verify that CCEI is using a secure Turbo SSL server with state-of-the art 256-bit encryption by clicking the GoDaddy.com Secure Web Site Verification Seal at the lower right-hand corner of the F.A.M.E. home page. What is the difference in the privileges for the various administrator account types? The privileges for F.A.M.E. are based on the hierarchy below: Corporate Administrators have the ability to administer all students, MSA's and schools. MSA Administrators have the ability to administer more than one school. School Administrators have the ability to administer only one school. Students have no administrative privileges beyond those associated with the management of their own courses and personal information. What functions are accessible through F.A.M.E.? The following functions are available to students: Purchase of Professional Development hours via credit card Use of previously purchased Professional Development hours Course delivery and tracking Transcript and Certificate access Full reporting of courses completed, courses in progress and last date of activity. It also shows cumulatively the total hours completed by student. How much time does one course take? On average, most courses will take approximately one hour to complete. Can I register online? Absolutely, for your convenience you may register online at How many Professional Development Courses are available online? 100 courses and growing. Can I share my subscription? No. Only the student assigned to a subscription can use it. Student information is personalized within the subscription, and transcripts & certificates will print with the name of the assigned student on them. Will the Professional Development Online Courses count toward CEU credits? CCEI is approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training. All CCEI Professional Development Online Courses are awarded IACET CEU credit. Page 2

5 What is the difference in Professional Development Courses and Certificate Programs? Professional Development Courses are generally used towards regular annual state licensing requirements and the student may select the courses they register for. Certificate programs have a set syllabus used by the student and must be adhered to for completion of that certificate. How do I get an Administrator password? Administrator passwords are available to schools that purchase center-based subscriptions. Administrator passwords are unavailable to, and not needed by, students. What is the effective date of my subscription? Access to the F.A.M.E. system is available immediately upon purchase. The subscription effective dates are on the 1st and 15th of the month purchased. For example, if you enroll on the 17th of the month, your subscription effective date is the 1st of the following month, yet you will have immediate access to the system. Additionally, subscription plans are non-refundable, non-transferable, and expire after 12 months. What happens to purchased courses that I have not completed when my subscription ends? As long as they renew prior to the expiration date, any remaining courses will carry over. Should a subscriber not renew, all courses remaining or not completed are deleted. I am currently a student in CCEI's CDA Program, how do I purchase additional hours? Students enrolled in CCEI's CDA certificate programs, who wish to take additional Professional Development courses not included in their CDA certificate program of study may do so by logging into their CCEI FAME account and clicking on the Register for Professional Development Courses link. Will the Online Professional Development Hours count toward annual licensing requirements in my state? In most cases, with CCEI working in conjunction with the state, any obstacles can generally be overcome. CCEI is currently in discussion with individual states to gain additional approval. Contact CCEI's Licensing and Research Coordinator at (800) , ext 521 for clarification on your particular state. Can I print a copy of the F.A.M.E. Terms and Agreement? Yes. It can be found at Can I update my personal information? Students may update most of their personal information by logging in to the site and clicking Edit Personal Settings. If applicable, your organization's administrator can also update your information, but may not edit Social Security numbers or make transcript deletions or changes. No user at any administrative level has the ability to change a user's actual name. Name changes are handled on a case-by-case basis by CCEI and in most instances requires copies of official documentation to justify the name change. Page 3

6 If I leave my current center, is my subscription transferable from one center to another? An individually purchased subscription will go with the student that purchased it, but center purchased subscriptions are non-transferable. What if I am taking a course and I need to take a break? Will I have to start over if I stop in the middle? No. Upon logging back in, you will be able to resume a course exactly where you left off. All incomplete classes are available under Current Courses. Once you have located the course, simply click the Resume Course link. Of course, your subscription must still be active. How do I know which classes I have completed? Students may view their completed courses by clicking Completed Courses. Under Completed Courses, students may review most courses, as well as view and/or print their individual certificates. Where is my transcript located? Your transcript is accessible by clicking the View Transcript link on the left navigation bar. Who owns the transcript? The student owns their own respective transcript, no matter who purchased it. Where are my certificates located? Students may view their certificates by clicking Completed Courses. Here, students may review most completed courses, as well as view and/or print their individual certificates. In order to view the certificates you must have Acrobat Reader installed. This free tool can be downloaded at What if I lose my certificate, can I print another one? Absolutely. Can I use the student transcript for my childcare hours? Yes, in most cases/states you will be able to use your transcript for tracking purposes. You may still be required to have printed certificates for your licensing surveyor to review. The transcript will be much more accessible to review rather than the many individual papers you may have in your training file. What if I have any questions or trouble accessing my courses? How can I get help? You may contact CCEI's Technical Help Desk at ext The Help Desk attendant will be glad to assist you with any technical issues you may experience. 7 Welcome, Student! The F.A.M.E. System can be accessed at Visitors should see a screen similar to the one on the right: If you are a new user, click the Enroll Here button in the navigation menu to set up an account. You will be prompted for your personal information and the password you wish to use with this account. Your address will be assigned as your username. You will also have the opportunity to enroll in a free demo course. Click the I Agree button at the bottom of the page and a welcome will be sent to the address that you provided. The welcome normally arrives within 30 minutes. Please follow the directions included in your welcome to activate your account. If it does not arrive, please check the spam folder and filter settings associated with your account, as well as the trash to see if the spam filter has automatically discarded it. If you do not receive an , please contact the CCEI Help Desk at ext If you have already signed up for an account and have received your welcome , enter your assigned username (which is your address) and password. Student Users should click the Student Login button. The Administrator Login button will only work for those with Administrative privileges. All users logging in for the very first time will be prompted to verify their address, and may be prompted to provide their SSN and other information. Users must input the requested information and agree to the terms and conditions before access to F.A.M.E. is given. Once logged in, students have access to the following student functions, accessible through the main navigation bar located on the left of the page. Please see the following page for an overview of what you will see once logged into F.A.M.E.: Page 5

8 Professional Development Use to purchase an individual subscription or individual hours. Return Home Use to return to this page at any time, from any page. Each of these links is discussed in detail on the following pages. Page 6

9 Registration/Purchasing When you have clicked your chosen product, you will be shown a summary screen including the name and cost of the product you have chosen. Review this screen, and review the necessary Terms and Agreements available on the page. Signify that you have read and accept the Terms and Agreements by checking the appropriate box, and click the Continue with Purchase button. Professional Development An individual student who wishes to purchase a subscription or additional hours may do so by clicking the Professional Development link. After clicking Professional Development, choose either the Purchase Subscription or Purchase Individual Hours tab, as appropriate for your need (see below). Please note that a credit card is required for an online purchase. You will now be prompted to provide your credit card payment information. Input your credit card payment information and click Process Payment to complete the purchase. You will then be provided a summary of your transaction. Enrollment Register for Professional Development Courses Students may add courses at any time by clicking the Register for Professional Development Courses link. To add a course simply check the box which appears on the left of each desired course. Courses that you have already enrolled in will have a green checkmark instead of the usual check box. Once you have chosen the course or courses that you wish to take, click the Submit button at the bottom of the screen. Purchase options, including the number of any available student or employer purchased hours will appear. By clicking the appropriate option, and then clicking the Register button, your available amount of hours will be adjusted and your selected course(s) will be moved to your Current Courses folder. Once registration is complete, you will be given the option to Start Learning Now. Clicking this link will take you to your Current Courses. Once there, you may view all currently enrolled courses and choose the one that you wish to start. Page 7

10 My Certificate Programs Current Certificate Programs This page allows a student to take a look at their Certificate Course of Study progress. The information includes the Certificate Course enrolled in, clock hours, CEU value, enrollment date and completion date. A list of sections is visible, as well as the percentage of that module that has been completed. By clicking on each major module, you can expand the section to reveal the individual courses within it. You may then choose to Begin Course, Resume Course, or Review Course. Please note that depending upon the type of certificate program you are enrolled in, you may not have immediate access to all of the required sections. In these circumstances, your previously completed work must be reviewed by CCEI's Education staff before the new modules become available. The first module available is CCEI0001RQ Verification of High School Graduation or GED. It shows up at the top of your listed courses. Verification of High School Graduation or GED is required for all Certificate Programs. While you may begin your courses without sending in the appropriate documentation, you will not be able to complete testing or receive your certificate until CCEI has received your documentation. You will be able to tell that CCEI has received and validated your High School diploma or GED when the large box next to the course numer CCEI0001RQ is marked with a large, green check-mark. Resource Center The Resource Center contains links to a selection of helpful information and various documents that will be required during your course of study. My Professional Development Current Courses This page allows a student to look at all courses that she/he is currently enrolled in. Please note that courses that you have started but have not completed will be found here as well. Along with the name of the course you will find a course description, as well as links appropriate for each course (ie- Begin Course, Resume Course, Enter Responses, etc...). Simply click the appropriate link to begin your course! Completed Courses This page allows a student to look at all courses that she/he has completed. From this screen you may review any course that has been taken, as well as view and print a certificate for each individual course. Please note that each certificate requires you to input your password and may take a few moments to download on a dialup internet connection. In order to view your Certificates you must have Acrobat Reader installed. It can be downloaded at Please note that by their nature, you will not be able to review practical application courses. 12 a copy of your course handouts if you feel that you may want to review them in the future. View Transcript This page allows a student to review the current status of their progress. It contains, among other things, your Date Enrolled, Courses Completed, an optional display of Course Descriptions, Courses in Progress, as well as course-specific information such as enrollment and completion dates. A copy of your transcript is adequate in many circumstances as evidence of course and program completion. Please check your local and state regulations to see if a transcript is sufficient, or if individual Certificates are required. My Professional Development Resources Edit Personal Settings Clicking the Edit Personal Settings link will provide the student with following options: Personal Information On this page you can edit the following items: Password Address Home Phone Work Phone Cell Phone Address Education Level Occupation Center/School Name Note that when you edit your address, a verification is sent to the new address to confirm the change. You must follow the instructions in the in order to validate the change and regain access to your account. Interface Settings Edit your interface options such as your language and font size preferences. Page 10
